An innovative mindfulness and educational care approach in an adult patient affected by gastroesophageal reflux: the IARA model.

Patients affected by gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) have a poor quality of life caused by several manifestations such as cough, asthma, laryngitis and dental erosion. The clinical conditions are highly disabling for patients and symptoms are difficult to manage. These conditions lead to many discomforts which contribute to an increase of the disease perception. For these reasons, it is important to improve the interventions on psychological aspects that ameliorate the patients' quality of life. The application of IARA model has proven useful to decrease GERD symptoms, distress and medi

Working memory in children: tracing age differences and special educational needs to parameters of a formal model.

Parameters of a formal working-memory model were estimated for verbal and spatial memory updating of children. The model proposes interference though feature overwriting and through confusion of whole elements as the primary cause of working-memory capacity limits. We tested 2 age groups each containing 1 group of normal intelligence and 1 deficit group. For young children the deficit was developmental dyslexia; for older children it was a general learning difficulty. The interference model predicts less interference through overwriting but more through confusion of whole elements for the dysl

Improving Pelvic Floor Disorder Education: A Second Pilot of a Retrieval-Augmented AI Chatbot Model.

INTRODUCTION AND HYPOTHESIS: Artificial intelligence (AI) tools such as ChatGPT are increasingly used by patients to seek health information, yet concerns remain regarding the accuracy and reliability of AI-generated content. Integrating evidence-based resources into these models may improve their educational effectiveness. In a previous pilot study, a retrieval-augmented ChatGPT model was found to outperform a standard ChatGPT model under controlled conditions, highlighting the need for further testing in pragmatic clinical contexts. The objective of this second pilot was to evaluate whether

Transforming Medical Education Through Competency-Based Weight Bias Training: The Weight of Words Model.

Obesity is a leading public health concern in the United States, yet medical education continues to inadequately prepare future providers to manage it as a complex, chronic disease. Compounding this issue is the pervasive presence of weight bias in healthcare, which contributes to poorer patient outcomes, diminished quality of care, and reduced patient engagement. Despite growing awareness, obesity and weight bias education remain inconsistently integrated into medical curricula, often lacking structured, longitudinal, and competency-based approaches. While frameworks such as those developed b

Sustaining educational and psychological support during protracted war: a regional laboratory model from Ukraine.

Protracted wars create challenges that extend beyond immediate educational disruption and humanitarian response. As crisis conditions become embedded within everyday life, educational communities must continuously adapt to emerging psychological, social, and educational needs affecting children, families, teachers, and schools. While existing research in Education in Emergencies (EiE) and school-based Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) has substantially expanded the understanding of child wellbeing and intervention strategies during crises, considerably less attention has been devo

Large Language Model-Assisted Thematic Coding in Medical Education Research: Comparative Methodological Study.

BACKGROUND: While large language model (LLM)-assisted qualitative analysis could improve the efficiency and scalability of feedback-driven curricular refinement in medical education, how best to leverage LLMs for qualitative analysis while ensuring quality outputs remains an open question. Prior work has demonstrated the feasibility of using LLMs for inductive and deductive coding tasks, but more needs to be known about how LLM-assisted thematic coding can best be deployed in a medical education context to maximize its strengths and guard against its weaknesses. OBJECTIVE: Our study evaluated

Readability and Quality of Large Language Model Patient Education for Trigeminal Neuralgia: A Cross-Sectional Study.

Large language models (LLMs) are increasingly used for patient health education, yet the readability and educational quality of LLM-generated information on trigeminal neuralgia (TN) have been insufficiently evaluated. This cross-sectional benchmarking study compared TN educational content generated by five publicly available LLMs (Doubao, DeepSeek, Wenxin Yiyan, Tongyi Qianwen, and GPT-5). Twenty frequently asked TN questions covering basic disease knowledge, etiology/risk factors, diagnosis, treatment, and prevention/rehabilitation were presented to each model using standardized prompts. Mathematical modelling of the effects of public health educational campaigns on the transmission dynamics of Taenia solium Taeniasis.

Taenia solium Taeniasis is a zoonotic intestinal infection that poses a significant threat to public health and imposes a substantial economic burden on developing regions, particularly in Sub-Saharan Africa. This study formulates and rigorously analyses a deterministic mathematical model, comprised of a system of non-linear ordinary differential equations, to investigate the transmission dynamics of the parasite under the influence of public health education campaigns. Using the next-generation matrix method, we derive the effective reproduction number, R e d , as the fundamental threshold

Development of 3D-printed female genital models to improve consent, education, and medico-legal communication.

WHAT WAS THE EDUCATIONAL CHALLENGE?: Public and professional understanding of female genital anatomy is limited, affecting informed consent, clinical communication, and medico-legal interpretation in cases of sexual violence and female genital mutilation (FGM). Two-dimensional diagrams fail to convey the three-dimensional structure of the vulva, making explanations difficult for patients, students, and legal professionals. WHAT WAS THE SOLUTION?: We developed modular, dismantlable 3D-printed vulva and hymen models in prepubertal and adult versions. They feature detachable anatomical component

Trainees as Agents of Change: A Theory-Informed Model for Trainee-Driven Curricular Advocacy in Medical Education.

Trainees (medical students, residents, and fellows) are beginning to make strides in pushing for changes to their education. While there are many examples of successful trainee-led curriculum reform efforts, the path to success remains unclear. To better understand the process of trainee-driven curricular advocacy, the author analyzes this process through the lens of ecological systems theory (EST) not only to provide readers with context for the barriers and facilitators to trainee-driven curricular advocacy but also to further medical education's understanding of the sociopolitical forces in
