Periodontal condition in Turkish recruits.

The periodontal condition of 300 Turkish troops was investigated using the modified Ramfjord Periodontal Disease Index. In addition, the gingival condition, presence and quantity of plaque and calculus, location and depth of periodontal pockets, tooth mobility, presence and severity of wear facets, diastema magnitude and the DMFT Index were determined. The average PDI was 3.8. Nearly 98% of the recruits suffered from gingivitis, 68% of whom exhibited moderate to severe inflammation without involvement of deeper structures. Moderate plaque accumulation and heavy calculus deposits were observed.

Preoperative pectoralis muscle index predicts distant metastasis-free survival in non-small cell lung cancer patients: a retrospective study.

BACKGROUND: Thoracic muscles contribute to respiration, is a crucial indicator for assessing functional recovery following lung resection. However, there is a lack of research on the long-term prognostic value of pectoralis muscle. METHODS: Consecutive patients who underwent curative-intent resection for stage I to IIIA NSCLC between 2013 and 2018 at a cancer center were retrospectively identified. The Cox proportional hazard model was employed to analyze the correlation between pectoralis muscle index (PMI) and survival, with subgroup analyses conducted to explore potential heterogeneity amo

Critical Appraisal of Histologic Grading for Mucoepidermoid Carcinoma of Salivary Gland: Is an Objective Prognostic 2-tiered Grading System Possible?

Multiple 3-tiered grading systems exist for mucoepidermoid carcinoma (MEC), leading to controversial results on the frequency and prognostic values of each grade. We aimed to identify prognostic histologic factors and to evaluate grading schemes in this retrospective study of 262 resected primary head and neck MECs. The rate of nodal metastasis was 8.4%. Large tumor size, tumor fibrosis, infiltrative border, lymphovascular invasion, perineural invasion, atypical mitosis, mitotic index (MI) ≥4/2 mm 2 (4/10 HPFs), necrosis, and pT4 stage were associated with increased risk of nodal metastasis. [Frontiers and advances in dental caries research].

Dental caries is a prevalent infectious disease caused by microbial metabolism, affecting the hard tissues of teeth. According to data from the Fourth National Oral Health Epidemiological Survey, there is a gradual increase in caries prevalence in China, particularly among children and elderly individuals. As an etiological factor for dental lesions, caries not only impact oral health but also exhibit significant associations with various systemic diseases, suggesting that systemic diseases may serve as potential risk factors of caries development. To effectively implement the plan of national
