West Nile virus (WNV), a mosquito-borne RNA virus for which there is no treatment, began emerging as a threat to health in the United States in 1999. Since then, its frequency and apparent clinical severity have increased. Patients with severe disease may experience ocular complications that include pain, vitreous inflammation, nonrelapsing chorioretinitis, retinal vasculitis, chorioretinal scarring, optic neuritis, and retinal hemorrhages. Age appears to be a risk factor for the development of ocular symptoms. Most patients with ocular involvement report floaters or decreased vision. Many ocu

Relentless placoid chorioretinitis (RPC) is a rare, vision-threatening posterior uveitis that predominantly affects young adults. The hallmark clinical findings are numerous scattered placoid chorioretinal lesions involving the midperipheral and far peripheral fundus as well as the posterior pole and a persistent or recurrent course resulting in lesions at different chronological stages, with fresh creamy placoid lesions and healing pigmented lesions being present at the same time. Although RPC is frequently described as a disease that is intermediate between acute posterior multifocal placoid

PURPOSE: To present a case of suspected sympathetic ophthalmia in an 82-year-old monocular woman.
METHODS: Case report.
RESULTS: Here, we present an 82-year-old woman, status postcataract extraction with lens subluxation followed by a complicated course ultimately requiring enucleation because of a blind and painful eye in 2020, who developed contralateral choroidal lesions 6 months postenucleation along with vitritis and anterior uveitis. The lesions were suspicious for an infectious versus autoimmune etiology. Thorough systemic work-up and multimodal imaging suggest an autoimmune case. The

Inflammation plays a key role in the induction of choroidal neovascular membranes (CNV). This explains why each form of posterior uveitis may lead to CNV formation. Diseases like presumed ocular histoplasmosis syndrome (POHS), multifocal choroiditis (MFC) or punctate inner choroidopathy (PIC) carry a high risk of CNV creation. Inflammatory processes mostly cause classical membranes. Because of the classical membrane form, smaller membrane size and the younger age of the patients' inflammatory membranes are often better treatable than membranes in AMD patients. In the times before VEGF inhibiti

Pathologic myopia has traditionally been viewed as a degenerative disorder caused by mechanical stretching and choroidal ischemia. However, converging clinical, molecular, and imaging data increasingly suggest that chronic low-grade inflammation contributes to both the onset and progression of myopic retinal degeneration. Recent studies have identified inflammatory patterns-including multifocal choroiditis/punctate inner choroidopathy (MFC/PIC)-like lesions, periatrophic inflammatory "plumes," and secondary Multiple Evanescent White Dots Syndrome (MEWDS)-often localized at sites of retinal pig

The differential diagnosis of serous retinal detachment (RD) includes Vogt-Koyanagi-Harada syndrome, severe hypertensive choroidopathy, posterior scleritis, multifocal choroiditis, metastatic tumor, and uveal effusion. Some cases of serous retinal detachment occur as a result of central serous chorioretinopathy (CSCR). Typical CSCR generally affects healthy middle-aged males and is characterized by localized serous RD of the neurosensory retina and retinal pigment epithelium in the macula that often spontaneously improve within 2 to 3 months. On rare occasions, variant CSCR with bullous RD occ
