The extraction and spectrophotometric determination of vanadium (V) with oxine is investigated at higher acidities than described previously. Under these conditions, n-butanol and other alcohols are found to exert a synergic effect on the extraction of vanadium into benzene. Here, we present an enantioselective and regioselective hydrophosphination of α,β-unsaturated substrates that feature both ketone and pyridine bifunctional groups. Interestingly, the activation of pyridine and ketone functionalities is selectively achieved through chiral phosphoric acid and oxazaborolidine, respectively. The regioselectivity of the phosphine nucleophiles toward the products can be well controlled by the choice of catalysts. In addition, the α-chiral phosphorus-containing pyridine products exhibit potential applications as chiral P,N-ligands.

Novel phosphorus-modified biochars were produced by pyrolyzing biomass feedstocks (wood, bamboo, cornstalk and rice husk) pre-impregnated with potassium phosphate (K3PO4). The soil heavy metal immobilization performance and mechanisms of modified biochars were investigated. We report a general and scalable method for the synthesis of all-meta-trisubstituted benzenes from readily available 3,5-disubstituted catechols. Oxidation and [4 + 2] cycloaddition with acetylene dienophiles generate a bicyclo[2.2.2]octane structure that is doubly decarbonylated initiated by blue-light irradiation, leading to a meta,meta-disubstitution pattern on the re-aromatized system. This enables this substitution pattern even with very bulky alkyl groups (deemed excellent dispersion energy donors) to be incorporated into, for example, chiral phosphoric acid catalysts.
