Are foot posture and morphological deformation associated with ankle plantar flexion isokinetic strength and vertical drop jump kinetics? A principal component analysis.

Static measurements are clinically useful in characterising foot morphology, but it remains unclear to what extent it can influence dynamic lower limb performance. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to investigate if foot posture or foot morphology deformation relates to ankle plantarflexion isokinetic strength and specific kinetics variables during jumping using principal component analysis (PCA). Thirty-eight physically active participants performed drop vertical jump (DVJ) onto force platforms and ankle plantarflexion contractions in different modalities on an isokinetic dynamometer.

A practical complex training model for non-athletic populations: a randomized controlled trial on lower-limb power and sprint performance.

BACKGROUND: Explosive power training is increasingly relevant for general fitness participants. While complex training effectively enhances strength and power in athletes, its practicality and efficacy for trained non-athletes using moderate loads and minimal equipment remain unclear. PURPOSE: This study aimed to evaluate the effects of a practical complex training (CT) protocol-featuring moderate-load resistance and accessible plyometric exercises-on jump performance, sprint acceleration, and reactive strength in physically active young men. METHODS: Thirty trained young males (≥ 1 year of

An At-Home, Virtually Administered Graded Exertion Protocol for Use in Concussion Management: Preliminary Evaluation of Safety and Feasibility for Determining Clearance to Return to High-Intensity Exercise in Healthy Youth and Children With Subacute Concussion.

Graded exertion testing (GXT) is an important tool for concussion management, as it is used to personalize post-concussion exercise prescription and return athletes to sport. However, most GXT requires expensive equipment and in-person supervision. Our objective was to assess the safety and feasibility of the Montreal Virtual Exertion (MOVE) protocol, a no-equipment, virtually compatible GXT, in healthy children and children with subacute concussion. The MOVE protocol consists of seven stages of bodyweight and plyometric exercises performed for 60 sec each. Twenty healthy (i.e., non-concussed)

The implementation gap in anterior cruciate ligament prevention programs-From evidence to everyday practice.

Anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury remains one of the most impactful injuries in pivoting sports, with non-contact mechanisms accounting for the majority of cases and offering a clear target for prevention. Robust evidence-including multiple Level 1 meta-analyses-demonstrates that structured neuromuscular training (NMT) programs can reduce ACL injury rates by approximately 50%, particularly among youth and female athletes. Effective programs are multicomponent, integrate strength, plyometrics, agility, balance and movement-quality feedback, and require adequate training dose and in-season

Relationship between volleyball spike jump height and lower limb kinetics is stronger for orientation leg than rear leg.

The orientation and rear legs have different roles in the spike jump (SPJ) in volleyball, yet the relationship between the jump height and kinetics of each leg remains underexplored. We aimed to clarify the relationships between jump height and kinetics of the orientation and rear legs in the SPJ. This study included 18 female college volleyball players. The experimental trial comprised an SPJ with a three-step run-up. The motion and ground reaction forces were measured using eight high-speed cameras and two force plates. Kinetic variables from the last foot contact to take-off were calculated

Biomechanical differences between horizontal and vertical single-leg jumps: what could each one reveal about functional impairments?

Jumps are used to assess musculoskeletal health. This study investigates neuromechanical differences in single-leg jumps for maximum height and distance regarding propulsion and landing phases to identify joint- and muscle-specific deficits. Nineteen healthy women performed both jump types, with assessments including 3D kinematics, ground reaction forces, and electromyography (EMG). Joint kinematics and torques were calculated using OpenSim, and muscle synergies derived from EMG data using Non-Negative Matrix Factorization guided by Variability Accounted For (VAF) metrics. Intersession, Intrarater, and Interrater Reliability of the Single- and Double-Leg Landing Error Scoring Systems in Healthy Sporting Populations.

CONTEXT: The double-leg Landing Error Scoring System (LESS) identifies noncontact ACL injury risk. However, its intersession reliability has been examined in only one study. As such injuries often occur during single-leg landings, research on the single-leg LESS (SLESS) in field settings remains lacking. Therefore, our study investigated the intersession, intrarater, and interrater reliability of single- and double-leg jump-landing tasks using SLESS and LESS. METHODS: Thirty-five team-sports players (age: 26.4 [6.7] years, n = 28 males and 7 females) performed 3 jump-landing variations (singl

Statistical Parametric Mapping to detect the effects of the secondary jump direction on landing kinematics.

Anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injuries in sports often occur with non-contact mechanisms, such as landing and cutting. Previous studies explored the ACL injury biomechanical risk factors through drop-jumps combined with secondary jumps. This study aimed to investigate the effect of the secondary jump direction on first landing kinematic temporal series. Fifty-seven participants (29 males, 28 females) performed three single-leg drop-jumps followed by secondary jumps in vertical (single-planar), 45°-medial and 45°-lateral direction (multi-planar). Lower limb and trunk landing kinematics was r

Comparing the effects of static and variable loading in potentiation of the lower extremities through vertical jump.

BACKGROUND: Post-activation potentiation (PAP) can elicit increased force in a muscular contraction following a specific preparatory activity, though little research exists regarding how various loading methods in said activity impact the potentiation effect. This study seeks to determine if banded PAP activities are more effective than static loading in improving power production. METHODS: Participants in this randomized cross-over design study were 7 female collegiate volleyball players with a 6-month minimum training age and no significant injuries. The study took place across 3 sessions,
