Procedural and mid-term results in patients with aortic stenosis treated with implantation of 2 (in-series) CoreValve prostheses in 1 procedure.

OBJECTIVES: This study sought to assess post-procedural and mid-term outcome of patients, in which a second "in-series" CoreValve prosthesis (Medtronic, Minneapolis, Minnesota) was implanted during the same procedure. BACKGROUND: Because of the increasing number of patients implanted with CoreValves, the need for management of special complications has emerged. A misplaced prosthesis can be corrected by various maneuvers. An option is to pull the valve out of the aortic annulus into the ascending aorta or beyond and position a second one (in series). METHODS: Out of 277 patients who underwen

Three-piece inflatable penile prostheses can be safely implanted after radical prostatectomy through a transverse scrotal incision.

OBJECTIVES: Some surgeons will not offer a three-piece inflatable penile prosthesis (IPP) to patients who have undergone retropubic surgery because of a perceived increase in intraoperative risk during reservoir placement into the retropubic space. METHODS: Of 942 consecutive patients undergoing IPP placement from 1986 to 2006, 115 had undergone radical prostatectomy before placement of an American Medical Systems Ultrex (n = 73), CX (n = 34), or CX-M (n = 8) device. Intraoperative and follow-up data for all patients were collected in an institutional review board-approved database. RESULTS:

Evaluation of Screw-Retained Versus Screw-Cement-Retained Implant-Supported Fixed Prostheses for Marginal Bone Loss and Peri-Implant Soft Tissue Changes: An In Vivo Study.

AIM: The influence of prosthetic retention design on early marginal bone loss and peri-implant soft tissue response remains clinically relevant. Screw-retained restorations provide retrievability and eliminate subgingival cement, whereas screw-cement-retained prostheses are designed to combine retrievability with the passive-fit and esthetic advantages of cementation. PURPOSE: The purpose of this in vivo study was to compare screw-retained and screw-cement-retained implant-supported fixed prostheses in terms of marginal bone loss, plaque accumulation, and bleeding on probing over a six-month

Enhancing skin-implant integration in lower-limb transcutaneous prostheses: From interface biology to bioactive, antimicrobial and cell-based strategies.

UNLABELLED: Transcutaneous prosthetic systems, which directly connect an external limb prosthesis to the skeleton, offer substantial biomechanical and clinical advantages over conventional socket-based devices. By eliminating the soft tissue loading inherent to the socket interfaces, these systems enable improved load transfer, comfort, and more natural sensory feedback through direct skeletal attachment. However, their widespread clinical adoption remains limited by complications at the skin-implant interface, including infection, marsupialization, and epithelial down-growth.Advances in surfa

Analysis of the risk of interproximal contact loss between adjacent teeth and implant-supported fixed prostheses: A retrospective cross-sectional study.

STATEMENT OF PROBLEM: Food impaction following the placement of an implant-supported restoration is most frequently associated with a high incidence of interproximal contact loss (ICL). Food packing is unpleasant and can cause gingival inflammation and even peri-implant bone resorption. Studies on the various factors that may contribute to the occurrence of ICL are lacking. PURPOSE: This retrospective cross-sectional study aimed to collect and analyze data from participants to investigate the incidence of ICL between implant-supported prostheses and adjacent teeth. The study further sought to

A CBCT study of changes in temporomandibular joint morphology with immediate implant placement and immediate loaded full-arch fixed dental prostheses.

BACKGROUND: Dental implants are becoming a popular treatment of choice. Immediate implant placement with immediate loaded full-arch fixed dental prostheses (IPILFFDP) presents an attractive solution for edentulous and partially edentulous patients because of its high success rate, reduction in overall treatment time, and improved esthetics. However, whether it can minimize the risk of temporomandibular disorder (TMD) has not been previously studied. OBJECTIVE: To quantitatively evaluate the temporomandibular joint (TMJ) morphology changes before and after IPILFFDP, using cone beam computed to

Orthognathic correction and corticobasal implant-supported prostheses as a treatment modality for partial edentulism with mandibular prognathism: A case report and review of literature.

INTRODUCTION: Mandibular prognathism manifests as elongation of the mandible in the anteroposterior direction, resulting in a sunken appearance of the middle third of the face and sad look of the eyes. It adversely affects esthetics, function, and oral health, reducing the patients' self-esteem. It therefore presents a significant challenge. PRESENTATION OF CASE: A 23-year-old woman presented with prognathic features characterized by mandibular protrusion, maxillary retrusion, a prominent chin, and reduce self-esteem. Intraoral examination revealed multiple extracted teeth, severe fracture of
