Reactive "syringomatoid" eccrine proliferations are a well-established phenomenon, which can show similar but less extensive histological features of a syringoma. The cut-off between syringomatoid hyperplasia and syringomas is subjective and given the considerable morphological overlap, it is possible they represent two points on the same spectrum. Syringomatoid hyperplasia has been associated with several conditions including neoplasms and inflammatory dermatoses. Herein, we describe an extremely rare case of syringomatoid hyperplasia occurring with calcinosis cutis in a 54-year-old Caucasian

Despite of the fact that the vulva contains a high density of apocrine and anogenital mammary glands in addition to eccrine glands and folliculosebaceous units, the benign vulvar adnexal tumours are rare. Though the varied clinical presentation and diverse histopathological spectrum of vulvar neoplasms has amazed the pathologists, only few studies have been reported in literature. The present five year study consists of only five cases of benign vulvar neoplasms depicting their rarity. Hidradenoma papilliferum and syringoma were the most common entities followed by Chondroid syringoma. The aim

BACKGROUND: The histogenesis and differentiation of eccrine tumors, including cylindroma, poroma, spiradenoma and syringoma, remains controversial. This controversy may be because of sporadic and incomplete studies of these neoplasms.
METHODS: Ten examples each of normal eccrine structures and of four benign eccrine tumors are analyzed with antibodies to cytokeratin (CK) 7, CD34, CK6, CK10, smooth muscle actin (SMA) and CD10. These markers represent two different immunohistochemical stains for each part of the eccrine structure; CK7 and CD34 stain the secretory coil, CK6 and CK10 stain the st

AIMS: Laminin (Ln)-γ 2, one of the chains of Ln-332, is a marker of invasive tumours and is frequently expressed as a monomer in malignant tumours. Desmoplastic trichoepithelioma (DTE), some types of basal cell carcinoma (BCC) (infiltrating and morphoeic BCC) and microcystic adnexal carcinoma (MAC) belong to a group of tumours known as sclerosing adnexal neoplasms (SAN) that are frequently difficult to differentiate and often require immunohistochemistry for diagnosis. The aim of this study was to assess the usefulness of Ln-γ 2 expression in the differential diagnosis of DTE, infiltrating/mor

Papilliferous syringocystadenoma is a rare cutaneous adnexal tumor, described in the literature as benign and of hamartomatous origin, although the underlying mechanisms are not fully understood. This tumor is usually seen on the lower eyelids and cheeks. Vulvar syringoma, on the other hand, is an extremely rare condition, with only a few cases reported in the literature. We report here the case of a 63-year-old woman who consulted us for a single nodular lesion located on the large right lip of the vulva. Microscopic examination of the biopsy revealed tumor proliferation with tubular and papi

BACKGROUND: Although syringoma is a common benign tumour of the sudoriferous gland, there is also an extremely rare malignant form known as syringoid eccrine carcinoma (SEC). SEC usually exhibits slow growth with deep invasion and a frequent tendency to relapse. The treatment of choice is radical wide resection, which poses a difficult reconstructive problem, especially when the tumour is located in the centre of the face.
CASE PRESENTATION: In this case, a 70-year-old man was diagnosed with an SEC at the same location as a benign syringoma of the upper lip and nasal base that had undergone p

Our patient is a 29-year-old woman without any previous disease who presented with different kinds of lesions on her face, neck, and chest. She first noticed the lesions 10 years ago and, since that time, they have become more numerous. She has no affected relatives. On physical examination, she had multiple cystic lesions on her neck, chest, and vulva, which were between 0.3 cm and 1 cm and skin-colored or yellowish (Figure 1). She presented with small, white papules on her face measuring approximately 0.2 cm, localized on her forehead and cheeks. Some of these papules had a blueish appearanc

Chondroid syringomas are rare adnexal neoplasms composed of epithelial and mesenchymal components, posing diagnostic challenges due to their diverse histological features. We report an atypical presentation of an apocrine mixed tumor in a 51-year-old female patient who presented with a 0.7 cm firm, flesh-colored nodule on the right lateral cutaneous lip. The patient's clinical findings included significant actinic damage, such as dyschromia, elastosis, lentigines, and actinic keratoses, indicative of chronic sun exposure. Over four months, the lesion increased in size to 1.7 cm x 1.2 cm, warra

BACKGROUND: Sclerosing sweat duct carcinoma (SSDC) is a rare variant of sweat gland carcinomas. We report a case of SSDC of the eyelid.
CASE: A 33-year-old woman presented with a painless, slowly enlarging nodule in her left lower eyelid. Incisional biopsy revealed proliferated ducts lined by two layers of epithelium embedded in a dense fibrous stroma. Cytologic atypia was not evident. Initial histopathological diagnosis was a syringoma or an inflammatory reaction.
OBSERVATIONS: Four years after initial biopsy, the mass had enlarged slightly. Madarosis was observed thereafter. The lesion was

Cutaneous findings are common in Costello syndrome, but have not been extensively reviewed in the dermatology literature. We present the cutaneous and histopathologic findings from two cases of Costello syndrome and review previously described cutaneous features of this syndrome. Both patients had manifestations of Costello syndrome with thick, lax skin on the dorsal aspects of hands and feet, deep palmar and plantar creases, curly hair, hyperkeratoses, acanthosis nigricans, papillomas, and multiple pigmented lesions. One patient had multiple syringomas on the forearms, a finding not previousl

The expression of involucrin was examined in 23 skin tumours of hair follicle origin, 17 tumours of sweat gland origin and three tumours of unknown origin, using an immunoperoxidase technique. All tumours from the hair follicle showed a positive reaction for involucrin. In particular keratoacanthoma and the squamous eddies in various tumours stained strongly. Trichofolliculoma, trichilemmoma and pilomatrixoma exhibited characteristic staining patterns which resembled those in the normal hair follicle. On the other hand the majority of the tumours of sweat gland origin did not stain, with restr

Chondroid syringoma, previously called mixed tumor of the skin is a fairly uncommon type of sweat gland tumor, most often diagnosed in the sixth and seventh decade of life. It presents as a well encapsulated dermal or subcutaneous module and it is most frequently found in the skin of the head and neck. The neoplasm is asymptomatic and is featured by a slow rate of growth. At histopathological examination, the tumor consists of an epithelial component, with glandular or ductal differentiation, either eccrine or apocrine, and a stromal component with myxoid or chondroid elements. Surgical remova

Using a rabbit anti-human liver ferritin antibody, we examined the binding patterns of this reagent in normal skin and observed a unique binding pattern limited to the outermost layer of the eccrine duct. Examination of a variety of sweat gland neoplasms revealed 2 distinct patterns. One was the binding of this antibody to the outermost layer of cells in the epithelial cords of syringoma, producing a characteristic ring when seen in cross-section. This pattern of binding did not occur in other neoplasms known to be related to the eccrine duct such as dermal duct tumor and eccrine poroma. Only

Nonvenereal vulvar diseases such as syringoma and vestibular papillomatosis can be difficult to differentiate from genital warts. Misdiagnosis of these conditions can lead to improper treatment without significant improvement and prolonged suffering. Histopathology may differentiate these conditions from sexually transmitted diseases and help in appropriate treatment. Here, we present case series of four rare vulvar diseases.

We present a very rare case of malignant chondroid syringoma of the fingertip in a 44-year-old man that was reconstruced by neurovascular island flap after the complete tumor resection of the fingertip. Although it is a rare tumor at an unusual area, it should be included in the differential diagnosis of the finger tumors.

Alteration of the eccrine sweat ducts has been observed in association with an expanding list of conditions. To our knowledge, this phenomenon has not been described in association with prurigo nodularis. We report on a 68-year-old man with a fibrotic nodule on his chin that had been present for 8 months. Microscopic examination showed marked hyperkeratosis overlying the epithelium. There was also hypergranulosis, marked acanthosis, and irregular elongation of the rete ridges. These findings were consistent with prurigo nodularis. In addition, within the reticular dermis, there was marked fibr

INTRODUCTION: In 1989 a new type of calcinosis cutis has been described in association with Down's syndrome. This is the milia-like idiopathic calcinosis cutis, which is characterized by milia-like papulae generally located on the limbs (especially hands and feet) and sometimes associated with syringomas around lesions or on the eyelids.
OBSERVATION: A 6 year old trisomic girl had about ten round shaped hard white-yellowish papules with a diameter of 2-3 mm on both palms of her hands. The biological balance and immunologic tests gave normal values. The histopathologic pattern was compatible w

A patient with Down syndrome and extensive elastosis perforans serpiginosa is presented. There is an increased incidence of elastosis perforans serpiginosa, alopecia areata, syringomas, and Norwegian scabies in patients with this syndrome. Ocular findings include slanting of the palpebral fissures, Brushfield's spots, nystagmus, and epicanthal folds. Serious ocular complications that may impair vision include keratoconus, congenital cataracts, and retinal detachment.

OBJECTIVES: Papular dermatoses commonly affecting the female vulva, such as molluscum contagiosum, syringoma, lymphangioma, folliculitis, verruca vulgaris, ectopic sebaceous glands, and bowenoid papulosis, often present with similar clinical appearances and are frequently misdiagnosed. This study aims to explore the clinical diagnostic value of reflectance confocal microscopy (RCM) in differentiating these conditions.
METHODS: A retrospective analysis was conducted on RCM imaging and histopathological findings from lesion sites in 172 female patients with vulval papular dermatoses. RCM charac

Eyelid lesions frequently are a diagnostic challenge. We report a case of a 46-year-old woman with a 5-year history of yellowish symmetric progressively growing papules on the eyelids, resembling xanthelasma. A skin biopsy was performed that revealed the rare variant of clear cell syringoma. The lesions were treated with CO2 laser and surgical excision; there was no evidence of recurrence after 6 months of follow-up.
