In this case-control prospective study, we investigated if we could improve the surgical outcome of interrupting strands in Dupuytren disease by creating a blocking effect with an absorbable cellulose implant, a known absorbable adhesion barrier. Experience with the use of the Universal Subcutaneous Endoscope (USE) system in surgical treatment of cubital tunnel syndrome in 35 patients is reported. Patients included in the study had pre- and postoperative clinical and electrophysiological data, and had undergone a minimum follow-up period of 13 months. Cases of longstanding (median, 60 months) tarsal tunnel syndrome were decompressed surgically in 14 female and four male patients. BACKGROUND: Relaparotomy after emergency surgery for nontrauma intraabdominal catastrophes (NTIAC) is morbid. Our objective was to identify patients who likely will need on-demand relaparotomy after surgery for NTIAC.
METHODS: A retrospective chart review of patients from 1998 to 2008 identified cases of NTIAC surgery with fascial closure. Demographics, comorbidities, intraoperative findings, morbidity, and mortality were analyzed.
