Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is prevalent in traumatic events. It is a great hazard of physical and mental health due to their severity and frequency. Traumatic fractures are one of the major causes of PTSD. The incidence of traumatic fractures has been high in recent years, which will directly or indirectly result in PTSD. Our target is to estimate the pooled incidence of PTSD in fracture patients after traumatic events and to explore possible influencing factors by a meta-analysis.The systematic searches in the electronic bibliographic databases of Web of Science, ScienceDirect, Ovi

The current study examined personal and environmental factors that placed 167 U.S. journalists from diverse media organizations at risk for post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) after covering work-related traumatic stories. These factors included exposure to traumatic stressors in their personal lives, work-related traumatic stressors, and general organizational stressors. Further, personality attributes and coping styles associated with risk and resiliency were examined. Regression analyses identified avoidant emotional coping, higher levels of perceived organizational stressors, intensity o

In the present report we describe patterns of traumatic events and Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), both partial and full, among homeless youth and those at risk for homelessness, with an emphasis on gender differences. Participants were 85 homeless and at-risk youth (49% female) recruited from a drop-in center in New York City in 2000. Youth completed a structured interview lasting 1.5 h. Rates of childhood maltreatment were substantial. Further, almost all youth experienced at least one traumatic event, with most experiencing multiple types of trauma. Gender differences were found in t

Isolated/idiopathic rapid-eye movement (REM) sleep behavior disorder (iRBD) is, in most cases, an early form of α -synuclein-related neurodegenerative diseases, including Parkinson's disease and dementia with Lewy bodies. Clinical reports suggest that iRBD is more common in individuals with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) compared to those without PTSD. We conducted polygenic risk score (PRS), genetic correlation, and Mendelian randomization analyses to explore potential genetic and/or causal associations between PTSD and iRBD. Dopamine transporter imaging binding status was also examine

Sleep disorders are a primary symptom of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Advances in computer technology have enabled the development of widely accessible wearable devices (WDs) that record objective parameters of patient activity and physiological functions. When integrated into telemedicine platforms, these devices facilitate patient access to diagnostic and treatment methods. This review summarizes the use of WDs, mobile, and web applications for diagnosing sleep disorders in PTSD and evaluating the effectiveness of therapeutic interventions. The application of modern technologies in

Potentially traumatic events (PTEs) and stressful life events (SLEs) are recognized as environmental risk factors for diverse psychiatric disorders, including obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) and social anxiety disorder (SAD). However, research has predominantly focused on the presence and quantity of PTE/SLE exposure rather than specific event types or associated emotions. This study aimed to investigate the role of PTEs/SLEs in the onset of OCD and SAD. We recruited patients diagnosed with OCD (n = 38) or SAD (n = 25) and contrasted their responses to the Childhood Trauma Questionnaire-Sh

Over the last decade a consistent increase in stress-related psychological consequences at the workplace, usually called 'mobbing', has been seen. It claimed physical, psychical and social distress as its victims, leading to an increased incidence of many illnesses, such as psychosomatic disorders (ache, high blood pressure, chronic fatigue and insomnia) and psychiatric disturbances (high level of anxiety, depression and suicidal attempts). It was recently demonstrated that mobbing is significantly widespread among healthcare workers, especially among female nurses. In this report, we illustra

OBJECTIVES: The aims of this cross-sectional pilot study were to ascertain the rates of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) among adolescents with bipolar disorder (BPD) and major depressive disorder (MDD) relative to a comparison group comprised of non-affectively ill patients, and to determine whether PTSD is related to suicidal ideation and attempts. The impetus for the study was born of clinical impressions derived in the course of routine clinical practice.
METHODS: Patients were screened by a single interviewer for BPD, MDD and PTSD, panic disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD)

Treating post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) among returning Iraq/Afghanistan veterans is a high priority for the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). The number of Persian Gulf-era veterans diagnosed with PTSD grew by 8,000 veterans per year from 2003 to 2005. Since 1997, however, the average annual growth in all users of VA specialty mental health services has averaged 37,000 veterans per year, including 22,000 per year with PTSD. This expansion was associated with a 37 percent reduction in mental health visits per veteran per year. The VA has substantially increased funding for PTSD

Eating disorders (EDs) have a harmful impact on the lives of millions of individuals in the United States. Research indicates that comorbid trauma could negatively impact treatment outcomes, reinforcing ED symptomology. Transdiagnostic approaches underscore experiential avoidance as a maintaining factor for EDs and other comorbid concerns, while mindfulness and adaptive coping help disrupt avoidance of emotional experiences. In addition to treatment approaches, clinicians must consider cultural identity factors, such as religion and spirituality (R/S), to engage in culturally responsive treatm

BACKGROUND: Compared with the general public, people with HIV (PWH) experience more psychological trauma and higher rates of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), yet limited research explores how PWH may uniquely experience trauma. The primary goal of this study was to investigate trauma exposure typologies and sequelae among PWH to inform trauma screening and interventions.
METHODS: Qualitative interviews were conducted with a convenience sample of 20 PWH with PTSD, receiving services from an urban, Tennessee-based HIV Service Organization. Interview guides were conducted to gain a rich un

BACKGROUND: Breast cancer (BC) is a common cancer among females in Africa. Being infected with BC in Africa seems like a life sentence and brings devastating experiences to patients and households. As a result, BC is comorbid with trauma, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and post-traumatic growth (PTG).
AIM: To identify empirical evidence from peer-reviewed articles on the comorbidity trajectories between BC and trauma, BC and PTSD, and BC and PTG.
METHODS: This review adhered to the PRISMA guidelines of conducting a systematic review. Literature searches of the National Library of Med

SIGNIFICANCE: Photosensitivity is common after mild traumatic brain injury. However, this study demonstrates that photosensitivity is also impacted by common comorbidities that often occur with mild traumatic brain injury. Understanding how physical and psychological traumas impact photosensitivity can help improve provider care to trauma survivors and guide novel therapeutic interventions.
PURPOSE: This study aimed to characterize the association between mild traumatic brain injury and common comorbidities on photosensitivity in post-9/11 veterans.
METHODS: Existing data from the Translatio

With this manuscript we provide an overview of the prevalence, symptoms, risk factors, screening, support, and treatment for women with a traumatic childbirth experience or childbirth-related PTSD. This overview is based on both recent literature and the authors' clinical experiences from the fields of obstetrics, psychiatry and medical psychology to provide up-to-date knowledge about recognizing, preventing and treating CB-PTSD from a clinical perspective. We pay substantial attention to prevention as there are many things health care professionals can do or not do to contribute to a positive

Neuroimaging is widely utilized in studying traumatic brain injury (TBI) and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). The risk for PTSD is greater after TBI than after non-TBI trauma, and PTSD is associated with worse outcomes after TBI. Studying the neuroimaging correlates of TBI-related PTSD may provide insights into the etiology of both conditions and help identify those TBI patients most at risk of developing persistent symptoms. The objectives of this systematic review were to examine the current literature on neuroimaging in TBI-related PTSD, summarize key findings, and highlight strengths

Understanding the effects of prolonged contact, in a professional role, with trauma victims has led to conceptualizations of helper stress. Various terms such as compassion fatigue, vicarious traumatization, secondary traumatic stress reactions, empathic strains, burn out, and Type land Type II countertransference have been proposed These terms required conceptual classification to make a proper diagnosis and classification of their impact on the helping process. It is proposed that Traumatoid States is a more inclusive and accurate term to define sub-types of occupationally-related stress res

OBJECTIVES: There has been speculation that Borderline personality disorder (BPD) and Complex post-traumatic stress disorder (cPTSD) are the same disorder or represent separate disorders on a broader trauma spectrum. BPD and cPTSD share several symptoms but differ in their presentation. Because the two disorders present so similarly, it could be that clinicians have difficulty differentiating them, leading to misdiagnosis. BPD is a commonly stigmatized condition, and stigma can be a source of diagnostic error, contributing to misdiagnosis. This study examined clinicians' diagnostic decision-ma

INTRODUCTION: This extensive literature review investigates the relationship between post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and alcohol use disorder (AUD), focusing on the neurobiological changes associated with their co-occurrence. Given that these disorders frequently coexist, we analyze mechanisms through which alcohol serves as a coping strategy for PTSD symptoms, particularly highlighting the drinking-to-cope self-medication model, which suggests that alcohol use exacerbates PTSD symptoms and complicates recovery.
METHODS: A systematic literature search was conducted across multiple datab
