Enhancing core stability and strength through abdominal drawing-in maneuver training using a sphygmomanometer: A narrative review.

BACKGROUND: The transversus abdominis (TrA) muscle plays a crucial role in lumbar spine stability and core strength. Activation of the TrA is commonly achieved through the abdominal drawing-in maneuver (ADIM). Dysfunction in the deep abdominal muscles is often linked to low back pain and instability. The ADIM technique involves drawing the navel inward toward the spine while maintaining a neutral spine position and normal breathing, thereby engaging the TrA. Sphygmomanometer is a valuable tool for measuring muscle activation, tracking changes in pressure, and ensuring core stability and streng

Effectiveness of abdominal bracing core exercises as rehabilitation therapy for reducing abdominal symptoms in patients with autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease and significant polycystic liver disease.

In patients with autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease (ADPKD) who also have polycystic liver disease (PLD), organomegaly often leads to abdominal symptoms. Abdominal bracing core (ABC) exercises have been validated as effective for alleviating chronic back pain. The purpose of this study was to assess the effectiveness of ABC rehabilitation exercises in reducing pain in ADPKD patients with significant PLD. Significant PLD was defined as a height-adjusted total liver volume (htTLV) exceeding 1,600 mL/m. Both the control groups (n = 11) and intervention (n = 12) and received an outpatien

Accuracy of the non-invasive Tcore™ temperature monitoring system to measure body core temperature in abdominal surgery.

An accurate determination of body core temperature is crucial during surgery in order to avoid and treat hypothermia, which is associated with poor outcome. In a prospective observational study, we evaluated the suitability of the Tcore™ device (Drägerwerk AG & Co. KGaA, Lübeck, Germany)-a non-invasive thermometer-to accurately determine core body temperature. In patients undergoing surgery for ovarian cancer, core body temperature (CBT) was determined with the Tcore™ sensor attached to the forehead and compared with blood temperature (Tblood) as measured within the femoro-iliacal artery. Circulating-water garment or the combination of a circulating-water mattress and forced-air cover to maintain core temperature during major upper-abdominal surgery.

BACKGROUND: A recent heat-balance study in volunteers suggested that greater efficacy of circulating-water garments (CWGs) results largely from increased heat transfer across the posterior skin surface since heat transfer across the anterior skin surface was similar with circulating-water and forced-air. We thus tested the hypothesis that the combination of a circulating-water mattress (CWM) and forced-air warming prevents core temperature reduction during major abdominal surgery no worse than a CWG does. METHODS: Fifty adult patients aged between 18 and 85 yr old, undergoing major abdominal
