Differential Analysis of Sesquiterpenoids of Atractylodes macrocephalus from Different Origins Based on Transcriptomics.

Atractylodes macrocephala (A.M.) is a traditional Chinese medicinal and edible herb renowned for its spleen-tonifying, dampness-resolving, diuretic, and antiperspirant properties. Its primary bioactive constituents are terpenoids, which have demonstrated anti-inflammatory, antitumor, and immunomodulatory activities. However, transcriptomic studies focusing on terpenoid biosynthesis in A.M. from different geographical origins remain limited. To investigate the molecular mechanisms underlying differential sesquiterpenoid production, we performed transcriptome sequencing on samples collected from

Helicobacter pylori, a spiral-shaped bacterium found in the stomach, is associated with various gastrointestinal and systemic health conditions. Effective suppression of H. pylori is therefore critical for managing gastrointestinal diseases. In a search for natural products with anti-H. pylori activity, the extract of Atractylodes macrocephala rhizoma showed significant inhibitory effects. Chromatographic purification of A. macrocephala extract yielded thirteen compounds, which were identified as ten sesquiterpenes and three polyacetylenes by spectroscopic analysis. The sesquiterpene compounds

Atractylodes lancea Rhizoma Attenuates DSS-Induced Colitis by Regulating Intestinal Flora and Metabolites.

Atractylodes lancea (Thunb.) DC. is a herb widely used traditionally for the treatment of gastrointestinal diseases such as gastric ulcer, spleen deficiency, and diarrhea. In China, people fry raw A. lancea (SCZ) together with wheat bran to make bran-fried A. lancea (FCZ). Ancient Chinese texts have documented that FCZ can enhance the function of regulating the intestines and stomach. Nevertheless, the effect and mechanism of SCZ and FCZ on ulcerative colitis (UC) are still unclear. The aim of this study was to compare the therapeutic effects of SCZ and FCZ and their mechanisms on dextran sulf

The combined influence of microbiome and soil environment contributes to the chemotype differentiation in Atractylodes lancea.

Atractylodes lancea, a traditional Chinese medicinal herb, is divided into two chemotypes based on the production of volatile bioactive compounds: the geo-authentic Maoshan chemotype (MSA, rich in atractylon and atractylodin) and the non-authentic Hubei chemotype (HBA, dominated by hinesol and β-eudesmol). However, the mechanisms underlying the differentiation of these chemotypes remain poorly understood. By sequencing analysis of wild and cultivated A. lancea samples from multiple provinces in China, we revealed that the genetic divergence into Maoshan-Dabie Mountains group (MA) and Qinling-T

Atractymacronoids A-L, sesquiterpenoids from the rhizomes of Atractylodes macrocephala and their anti-inflammatory activities.

Twelve previously undescribed eudesmane-type sesquiterpenoids, named atractymacronoids A-L (1-12), together with eighteen known ones (13-30), were obtained from the rhizomes of Atractylodes macrocephala. Their structures and absolute configurations were determined by analysis of spectroscopic data, electronic circular dichroism (ECD), and X-ray diffraction analyses. Atractymacronoids A and B (1 and 2) were the first example of an unprecedented noreudesmane-type scaffold featuring a 6/5 fused-ring system. A pair of C-9 epimers, atractymacronoids J and K (10 and 11), were assigned via X-ray crys
