Chromosome aberration of human peripheral blood lymphocytes exposed to californium-252 (252Cf) neutrons transmitted through a 15 cm thick iron block was analysed. The spectrum of the filtered neutrons ranged from 0.1 to 2 MeV with a peak at 0.7 MeV, simulating the Hiroshima atomic bomb neutron spectrum as shown in the Dosimetry System 1986 (DS86). Between 1971 and 1985, 12 children and adolescents aged 0.7 to 19 years (median 4.7 years) with localized residual soft-tissue sarcomas (STS) underwent interstitial radiation therapy (IRT) at our institution. Eight received IRT as a component of initial therapy, and four were treated for recurrent or persistent disease. A total of 65 patients with malignant tumors of the vagina aged 32-81 years were treated by interstitial radiotherapy. Out of the 65 subjects, 52 patients were irradiated with 60Co sources, and 13 patients with 252Cf sources. Fixing devices of three types were used which ensured the practical realization of interstitial radiotherapy in regard to tumor localization, its shape, and volume. Rat amylin differs from human amylin (hIAPP) in that it lacks a fibril-forming capacity. As a consequence, toxic effects have been reported for human but not for rat amylin. This report demonstrates how a mercury contamination of commercial rat amylin imitates peptide-related vasoactive and cytotoxic effects on preparations of isolated blood vessels. The source of mercury contamination was believed related to the peptide synthesis. Thiol groups of cysteine-containing peptides are often protected by acetamidomethyl (Acm) which is cleaved by mercuric acetate.

Porfiromycin was reductively metabolized by NADPH cytochrome P-450 reductase and xanthine oxidase under anaerobic conditions. The production of metabolites varied with the pH and the contents of the reaction buffer. The Korea Research Institute of Standards and Science (KRISS) has constructed a new long counter that can be disassembled in parts and reassembled. This counter can be easily transported and used as a transfer standard instrument for neutron fluence measurements. Neutron emission rate measurements have been carried out at the Korea Research Institute of Standards and Science using a manganese sulphate bath system for (252)Cf and (241)Am-Be sources since 2004.
