Mitigating copper toxicity in Carthamus tinctorius L. through 6-benzylaminopurine during seed germination and vegetative growth.

Cytokinins are essential regulators of plant growth and development and are actively involved in plant responses to both biotic and abiotic stresses. In the present study, the role of 6-Benzylaminopurine (BAP) in modulating growth performance and copper (Cu) tolerance in Carthamus tinctorius L. was examined. Treatments consisted of four CuSO4 levels and three BAP levels in a factorial design. High Cu levels significantly reduced seed germination parameters, growth characteristics, photosynthetic pigments, root and shoot protein content, and peroxidase (POX) activity, while increasing soluble c

Genome-Wide Identification, Expression Profiling, and Functional Validation of Oleosin Gene Family in Carthamus tinctorius L.

Carthamus tinctorius L., commonly known as safflower, is an important oilseed crop containing oil bodies. Oil bodies are intracellular organelles in plant cells for storing triacylglycerols (TAGs) and sterol esters. Oleosins are the most important surface proteins of the oil bodies. We predicted and retrieved the sequences of eight putative C. tinctorius oleosin (Ctoleosin) genes from the genome database of safflower. The bioinformatics analyses revealed the size of their open reading frames ranging from 414 to 675 bp, encoding 137 to 224 aa polypeptides with predicted molecular weights of 14.

Activation of PPARγ is required for hydroxysafflor yellow A of Carthamus tinctorius to attenuate hepatic fibrosis induced by oxidative stress.

Oxidative stress caused hepatic fibrosis by activating hepatic stellate cells (HSCs), which were implemented by depressing PPARγ activation. Hydroxysafflor yellow A (HSYA) as a nature active ingredient with antioxidant capacity was able to effectively attenuate oxidative stress mediated injury. So it will be very interesting to study effect of HSYA on HSCs activation and liver fibrosis, and reveal the role of PPARγ·CCl4 and H2O2 were used to mimic oxidative stress mediated hepatic injury in vitro and in vivo respectively. The anti-fibrosis effects of HSYA were evaluated and its mechanisms were

NMR solution structure study of the representative component hydroxysafflor yellow A and other quinochalcone C-glycosides from Carthamus tinctorius.

Hydroxysafflor yellow A (HSYA), a representative component of Carthamus tinctorius, has attracted much attention because of its remarkable cardiovascular activities. Its structure was originally reported in 1993 and has been widely cited to date. In our experiments, its solution structure was studied using NMR techniques in different solvents, including DMSO-d(6), pyridine-d(5), and CD(3)OH. The results indicate that the structure of HSYA is different than the previously described 1b, with 3-enol-1,7-diketo form. The structure has two keto-enol tautomers (2a and 2b), and 2a, with the 1-enol-3,
