A study was conducted of the 1,225 Pseudomonas aeruginosa strains that were isolated at 20 medical institutions in the Kinki district between 2011 and 2013 to determine their antimicrobial susceptibility and to characterize the strains of multidrug-resistant Pseudomonas aeruginosa (MDRP) and the metallo-β-lactamase (MBL) -producing strains. We describe a rare case of recurrent Stenotrophomonas maltophilia bacteremia in a previously healthy 45-year-old man. The infection was caused by osteomyelitis at the site of an iliac crest bone graft harvest. BACKGROUND AND METHODS: We compared the bacteriological, pharmacological and histopathological effects of parenterally administered ciprofloxacin (CPFX) to those of imipenem/cilastatin (IMP/CS) and cefozopran (CZOP) in a murine model of mucoid Pseudomonas aeruginosa pneumonia mimicking ventilator-associated pneumonia.

During the period of January 1992 and August 1995, 75 strains of Pseudomonas aeruginosa were isolated from sputum at the Hiroshima Prefectural Hiroshima Hospital. We investigated the drug resistance status of Pseudomonas aeruginosa (P. aeruginosa) focusing on its isolation sites and types of diseases. Materials and methods: A microbiological laboratory database was searched to identify all clinical cultures positive for P. aeruginosa. Clinicopathologic features and susceptibility of P. aeruginosa to any antibiotics were evaluated in patients admitted to the division of upper (Upper-GI group) or lower gastrointestinal surgery (Lower-GI group). We studied 247 strains of Proteus mirabilis collected during the 6 months from November 2003 to April 2004 from 12 clinical laboratories in the Kinki region of Japan for the production of extended-spectrum beta-lactamase (ESBL).
