An autopsy case of retroperitoneal leiomyosarcoma of a centenarial male is described. He complained of abdominal pain in his left side 1 month before his death. Ultrasonography and computed tomography revealed a large mass in the left abdominal cavity. DESIGN AND SETTING: A cross-sectional survey of centenarians residing in the Aichi Prefecture of Japan.
PARTICIPANTS: A total of 103 centenarians (21 men and 82 women).

In order to study the changes that occur in the spinal cords of the aged, 19 centenarian spinal cords from two men and 17 women (age range, 100-116 years at death; mean, 103 years) were pathologically examined.
