Regulatory Mechanisms of Benzylisoquinoline Alkaloid Biosynthesis in Coptis chinensis Under Light Quality Treatment.

Coptis chinensis Franch. is a perennial and valuable medicinal plant. The dried rhizome of C. chinensis has been extensively used in traditional Chinese medicine to treat heat-related disorders. Benzylisoquinoline alkaloids (BIAs), including berberine, epiberberine, palmatine, and coptisine, constitute the primary bioactive compounds in this species. Although light quality is recognized as a key regulator of plant growth and metabolism, the specific roles of distinct light spectra in modulating BIA biosynthesis remain poorly understood. In this study, an integrated transcriptomics and metabolo

Pan-chloroplast genome of Coptis species reveals genetic divergence and medicinal materials identification.

BACKGROUND: Accurate identification of medicinal plants is fundamental to ensuring the efficacy, safety, and quality control of Traditional Chinese Medicine. Coptis species are the primary botanical sources of the important herbal medicine "Huanglian", which is officially derived from Coptis chinensis, Coptis deltoidea, and Coptis teeta. However, their high morphological similarity and the loss of distinguishing features in processed materials have led to long-standing species confusion in the medicinal materials market. Traditional identification methods have limitations, and commonly used un

Coptis chinensis -derived nanovesicle-loaded biodegradable hydrogel for preventing post-laminectomy epidural fibrosis.

Post-laminectomy epidural fibrosis (PLEF) is a major contributor to failed back surgery syndrome, yet current preventive strategies remain unsatisfactory. Here, we engineered an injectable, biodegradable methacrylated hyaluronic acid-phenylboronic acid (HAMA-PBA) hydrogel incorporating Coptis chinensis-derived nanovesicles (CCNVs) for localized PLEF prevention. Characterization confirmed the successful isolation of nanoscale CCNVs and their uniform three-dimensional distribution within the hydrogel matrix. In vitro, the CCNVs-loaded hydrogel significantly suppressed L929 fibroblast proliferati

Osteogenic peptide-engineered Coptis chinensis-derived extracellular vesicles promote immuno-osteogenic repair of diabetic bone defects.

Diabetic bone defects are difficult to repair because chronic hyperglycemia creates a hostile inflammatory and oxidative microenvironment that impairs osteogenesis, enhances osteoclast activity and compromises vascular ingrowth. Plant-derived extracellular vesicle-like nanoparticles can transfer source-related biological signals to mammalian cells and are attractive for immune regulation, but native vesicles usually lack defined osteogenic instruction for diabetic bone regeneration. Here, we engineered Coptis chinensis-derived extracellular vesicle-like nanoparticles (Cc-EVs) with a BMP-2-deri

Machine-learning-assisted ultraviolet-visible spectroscopy for low-level multi-component adulteration identification in Coptis chinensis.

Low-level adulteration of botanical ingredients is difficult to detect because weak adulterant signals are often masked by the dominant matrix spectrum. Here, Ultraviolet-Visible (UV-Vis) spectroscopy combined with machine learning was investigated for identification of low-level multi-component adulteration in Coptis chinensis. Scutellaria baicalensis, Rheum palmatum, and Curcuma longa were used as adulterants to construct 29 classes, including pure, single-, binary- and ternary-adulteration samples, at a fixed total adulterant content of 3 wt%. Twenty independently prepared samples were incl
