This technique introduces a system of abutments with a pressure or friction fitting to retain implant-supported prostheses. The system combines the chief advantages of cement and screw-retained prostheses, which are passively fit and easily removed from the mouth, respectively. This system provides an alternative to conventional immediate loading systems, since it allows easier adjustment and modeling of the prosthesis with a snap-on connection and easier removal from the implants.

This clinical report describes the successful management of a patient who underwent extensive resection of a maxillary cancer, by introduction of a maxillary obturator prosthesis using zygoma implants. The patient was a 57-year-old man with cancer of the upper anterior gingiva. The maxillary bone in the affected region had been extensively excised by radical surgery. Owing to loss of teeth retaining the denture, the existing prosthesis was unstable, and the patient experienced severe speech and mastication disorders. Four zygoma implants (two on each side), and two conventional dental implants

STATEMENT OF PROBLEM: Removable dental prosthesis cleanliness is multifactorial, and key clinical and nonclinical factors associated with prosthesis hygiene should be identified to inform practice, particularly given the dearth of studies relating specifically to prosthetic factors and prosthesis cleanliness.
PURPOSE: The purpose of this cross-sectional clinical study was to evaluate removable dental prosthesis cleanliness among community-dwelling elders by using a semi-automated planimetric assessment and to determine factors associated with removable prosthesis cleanliness.

STATEMENT OF PROBLEM: Implant-supported fixed dental prostheses can be cement- or screw-retained on the implant or abutment, with advantages and disadvantages for each method. Cemented prostheses have been associated with peri-implant disease because cement remnants act as a reservoir for bacteria and hinder biofilm control. However, contrasting evidence has been presented regarding this association based on studies with varying designs, and a systematic review and meta-analysis is required.
PURPOSE: The purpose of this systematic review and meta-analysis was to answer the focused question: I

Unfavorable inclination of implants is a common problem that may compromise esthetics, phonetics, and function of the implant-supported fixed prosthesis. Several methods have been reported to compensate for malaligned implants; however, most techniques are complicated and expensive. A technique that combines a custom abutment from a hexed UCLA-type plastic burn-out pattern and a manually threaded setscrew hole is a relatively inexpensive and uncomplicated approach to eliminate problems caused by unfavorable implant inclination. This article describes the procedures for fabrication of an implan

The objective was to describe the use of a maxillary obturator supported by dental implants and ball abutments in an adult edentulous unilateral cleft patient. Adult edentulous cleft patients who have had no corrective surgeries or failed attempts at cleft repair in childhood suffer from oronasal communication resulting in hypernasal speech, dysphagia, and compromised masticatory ability. Tissue-supported obturator prostheses in such patients provide for compromised function due to instability and lack of retention. The treatment using fibromucosal-supported obturators is well established in t

Patients who cannot tolerate total coverage of the hard palate or whose maxillary arches are poorly formed, because of congenital, developmental or surgical defects, may be unable to wear a conventional complete denture. These patients can be successfully treated with implant-supported prostheses that cover only a minimal amount of palatal tissue. With spark-eroded castings, very precise restorations can be constructed to fit such implant supports. However, these castings are so expensive that cost precludes their use for many patients. This article presents an alternative approach, developed

OBJECTIVE: To describe the use of dental implants in the treatment of velopharyngeal incompetence.
BACKGROUND: Velopharyngeal incompetence is characterized by the inability to contract the tissues of the soft palate. The most common causes are neuromuscular problems resulting from concussion and degenerative conditions of the central nervous system.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: The treatment using palatal lift prosthesis is well established in the literature; however, reports on the use of osseointegrated implants are scarce. Rehabilitation using only this type of fibromucosal support is difficult

Patients afflicted with congenital cleft lip defect experience disfigured facial esthetics and lack of oral competency that could reduce the speech intelligibility. Rehabilitation of such cosmetic deformities condition often encountered with dental abnormalities becomes the challenge. When surgical treatment is not desired, prosthetic reconstruction turns out to be an economical option. This clinical treatment describes the fabrication of a maxillary lip prosthesis supported by a cast partial denture retained with magnetic attachment in a cleft lip patient. The use of intraoral magnets placed

Mandibular overdenture is suspected to fracture, especially in the midline and anterior region due to low surface area of coverage and minimum acrylic thickness in addition to attachments pickup holes that weakens the denture. Dentures used to be conventionally reinforced with metal meshwork which cannot be done in a digital workflow. This in vitro report introduces a novel approach of digital overdenture reinforcement using computer-aided design, computer-aided manufacturing, and rapid prototyping technologies. This novel approach provided digital reinforced, stable, and well-adapted overdent

It is essential to compare conventional dental implants (CDIs) and mini dental implants (MDIs). This systematic review evaluates the clinical and radiological outcomes of individuals receiving MDI-retained overdentures (ODs) compared with CDI-retained ODs. The Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses guidelines were followed for the current systematic review. The PubMed, Scopus, and Cochrane databases were examined for evidence-based research articles addressing the clinical and radiological outcomes of MDI and CDI published from January 2013 to September 2024. PURPOSE: The primary stability of dental implants is one of the most crucial factors for providing long-term success of osseointegration. Vertical deficiencies, such as those due to maxillary sinus pneumatization, may cause a severe vertical limitation to residual bone height. This study aimed to examine the primary stabilization of implants without apical contacts.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Eighty bone-level implants (4.1-mm diameter/10-mm length) were placed into polyurethane test blocks without apical contacts. According to coronal bone-to-implant contact, groups were set as 4, 6, 8, and 10 m

As restorative dentists, one of the largest challenges we face is to restore proper form and function while considering the impact on the esthetic outcome. One must consider the clinical strengths and weaknesses of various materials and their applicability in different situations. For each clinical situation, there is always a most favorable choice coordinating material and design for optimum physiological, functional and esthetic results. The cast gold 7/8 crown with esthetic buccal margin, as designed and advocated by Dr Richard V Tucker, is an extremely valuable procedure, providing a very
