This paper aims to raise a discussion from the perspective of maintaining long-term oral health, posing a critical question: What holds greater significance for maintaining oral health, the longevity of restorations or teeth? This question explores the aspects that truly matter in ensuring sustained oral health throughout an individual's life. Restoration longevity is well-researched, and evidence shows several risk factors influencing longevity. The dentist's decision-making factor may be of utmost importance, and further studies are needed to investigate its relevance. The critical risk fact

Although the number of implant placement in the edentulous maxillary region is increasing, there are often some cases in which implants accidentally get displaced into maxillary sinus because of low bone quality, insufficient bone height, bone resorption after surgery, and improper treatment plan. Implants displaced into the maxillary sinus can cause some complications, including mucosal thickening and sinusitis; however, there are also many cases causing no symptoms at all. Treatment procedures for implants displaced into maxillary sinus are observation, removal of implants through intraoral

Degradation of composite resin during ageing always produces micro-cracks, the latter could gradually expand, leading to the fracture of tooth restoration. In order to extend the service life of composite resin by repairing cracks intelligently, self-healing microcapsule models have been introduced in resin-based dental materials. This paper will present the concept and classification of self-healing materials, and review the research progresses on self-healing dental resin.

BACKGROUND: The global shift from dental amalgam to direct posterior resin composite restorations (RCRs), driven by aesthetic demands and the Minamata Convention, has increased the need to evaluate their clinical performance. Establishing proper proximal contact tightness (PCT) in Class II restorations is a critical, technique-sensitive parameter required to prevent food impaction, periodontal disease, and restoration failure. In Nairobi, Kenya, there is a lack of local data regarding technical failures like deficiencies in proximal contact tightness. This study aimed to evaluate the proximal

Dental implants in the esthetic zone of the oral cavity have always posed a challenge to the oral surgeon. Multiple variables must be considered, such as available soft and hard tissues, gingival phenotype, position of the lip upon smiling, and other factors that pertain to patient compliance and expectations. It is essential to pay attention to the factors that might compromise the long-term stability of these implants. In this article, a deep exploration of the current consensus regarding the long-term survival of implants in the esthetic zone will be performed. A case-series of the authors
