Concepts for digital denture manufacturing are market-available but studies comparing the trueness of such dentures, either milled (MIL) or additive manufactured, compared to injection molded (IM) ones are still limited. Regarding the impact of artificial aging and microwave sterilization on this parameter, no data are available. Therefore, the purpose of this investigation was to assess the trueness of IM, MIL, and stereolithography (SLA) printed denture bases after manufacturing, hydrothermal cycling, and microwave sterilization. Sixteen edentulous maxillary plaster models were poured using

Candida albicans (C. albicans) biofilm is a common etiological factor in denture stomatitis. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of incorporating 2-methacryloyloxyethyl phosphorylcholine (MPC) as a protein repellent into a new high-impact denture acrylic (HIPA) resin on the surface roughness, solution pH, and C. albicans biofilm adhesion to the denture base. The new acrylic denture resin base was formulated by mixing MPC into HIPA resin at mass fractions of 1.5%, 3%, and 4.5%. Surface roughness was measured using a Mitutoyo surface roughness tester. C. albicans biofilm gro

PURPOSE: Denture stomatitis (DS) is a disease characterized by inflammation and erythema of the oral mucosa areas covered by the denture. Multifactorial etiological factors contribute to DS, but it seems that Candida plays the key role. The aim of the study was to evaluate the denture sonication method to: (i) increase the possibility of diagnosing patients with Candida-associated DS; (ii) detect and identify the mixed Candida spp., and (iii) determine the Candida colony forming units (CFU) and its possible relationship with DS severity, based on Newton's classification.

Modern prosthodontic therapy must continue to address the inevitable consequence of tooth loss--that is, alveolar process atrophy. The use of removable partial dentures (RPDs) to treat partial edentia must rely, in part, on support from the ever-deteriorating edentulous ridges. Extension-base RPDs are particularly affected as the tissue-base relationship changes over time after extraction of the natural teeth. This article reviews the concept of observed changes in the residual edentulous alveolar ridge and conventional procedures used to compensate for this bone loss. Finally, a practical pro

PURPOSE: This study compared shear bond strength and type of bond failure between a highly cross-linked tooth and different denture base polymers.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Cross-linked denture teeth were bonded to either a heat-, an auto-, a microwave-polymerized denture base resin or a relatively new injection-molded, microwave-polymerizable polyurethane-based resin. Six experimental groups were established for each of the shear and peel tests. In four of the groups, teeth were used as received and bonded to each of the denture base resins; in the remaining two groups, they were treated with d

Surface changes and microbiological effects following shot blast polishing with viscoelastic media of the mucosal surface of resin denture bases were examined. Average surface roughness (Ra) and the depth of surface removal of specimens were measured over time, and the clinical number of microbial adhesions on the mucosal surface of dentures was clinically assessed. The results obtained showed no changes in Ra after 20 s of polishing, Ra of <0.2 µm, and a depth of surface removal < 20 µm. This method of finishing did not affect the fit of the mucosal surface of the dentures. Furthermore, the a

INTRODUCTION: Dental health and overall well-being are greatly impacted by temporomandibular disorders (TMDs), which encompass a spectrum of illnesses that impact the temporomandibular joint and its surrounding structures. The use of dental prostheses, including complete and partial dentures, is common among individuals with missing teeth. However, the association between denture types and the prevalence of TMD remains a subject of interest and concern in the field of oral health.
EVIDENCE ACQUISITION: Relevant databases were comprehensively searched to identify eligible studies. The search s
