STATEMENT OF PROBLEM: Few prospective trials of implant-retained mandibular dentures have evaluated the increase and duration of patient satisfaction, costs of denture maintenance in relation to different methods of attaching overdentures to implants, or the use of a reinforced framework.
PURPOSE: This report evaluates subjects' satisfaction and prosthodontic maintenance during a 3-year randomized clinical trial of implant-retained mandibular complete dentures, whether reinforced or not with a cast framework, and attached by bar-clip or 2.25-mm ball-spring matrices to endosteal dental implant

Cancer resection is the most common cause of acquired palatal defects, whereas cleft palate is the main cause of congenital defects. Palatal defect can be repaired by reconstructive surgery and/or a dental prosthesis. We present prosthodontic rehabilitation of two maxillary edentulous patients, one with a surgically induced palatal defect and the other with congenital cleft palate. In case 1, an 86-year-old man underwent surgical removal of soft-palate squamous cell carcinoma. The acquired palatal defect was repaired by a maxillary complete denture with a posteriorly extended speech bulb. The

Accidental ingestion of dentures is a relatively infrequent yet clinically significant problem, often resulting in oesophageal impaction, particularly in edentulous patients who wear removable dentures. Ingestion of dentures poses a significant risk of mucosal injury or perforation during endoscopic retrieval, owing to their large size, sharp edges and metal clasps, and hence requires a low threshold for surgical intervention. This video tutorial demonstrates the technique of robotic-assisted thoracoscopic oesophagotomy and removal of the impacted denture followed by repair of the oesophagotom

AIM: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the flexural strength of heat polymerized denture base resin after thermocycling and different surface treatments done prior to repair or relining.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: In this in vitro study, 80 specimens were made with heat-polymerized denture base resin and thermocycled (500 cycles between 5 and 55 °C). The specimens were divided in four groups based on different types of surface treatment: group I (control group: without surface treatment), group II (chloroform for 30 seconds), group III [methyl methacrylate (MMA) for 180 seconds], and grou

There are several benefits in using adhesive technique in removable prosthodontics as well as fixed prosthodontics. Previous studies have examined denture-base surface treatments that improve bond strength between a denture base resin and autopolymerizing repair resin. Dichloromethane and ethyl acetate are organic solvents that swell the denture base surface, thereby permitting diffusion of the acrylic resin. The optimal treatment duration is 5-10 s for dichloromethane and 120 s for ethyl acetate. It was reported that the bond durability of dichloromethane was superiorto that of ethyl acetate.

A random sample of 1019 elderly home dwelling persons participated in this study. There were 809 dentate respondents, 28.6% of whom wore removable partial dentures. They were examined for coronal and root caries, gingival recession, pocket depth and loss of gingival attachment. The removable partial dentures were also evaluated. Abutment teeth were found to be more likely to have caries and periodontal disease than all other teeth. Using a MANOVA statistical procedure, the analysis indicated that the partial denture itself, irrespective of any professionally determined problems with the dentur

PURPOSE: The observation of the denture plaque for complete dentures caused many clinical works and researches, since 30 years. Most of the studies were interested, by the prosthetic under-surface. New data show that the polished (exterior) surface on the denture palate is colonized more than hard palate. The aim of our study is to locate the favorite zones of the accumulation of the denture plaque on the level of the suction polished faces of the acrylic resin.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: We proceeded by immersion during 24 hours of 62 used full dentures belongs to 33 patients, with mucous membran

The presence of an oronasal fistula presents a challenge to maxillary complete denture fabrication because leakage of air from the nasal cavity through the fistula prevents the formation of an adequate border seal. Although surgical repair or dental implants are possible solutions, these options are invasive and sometimes not feasible. This clinical report illustrates an alternative prosthetic solution by integrating a small retentive component into a maxillary complete denture.

Papillon Lefevre Syndrome is an autosomal recessive disorder. One of the most destructive forms is a periodontal disease. A 19 year female with the syndrome, came for dental treatment. Most of her natural dentition was missing. The remaining five natural teeth had extensive carious and periodontal lesions. Two poor dentures replaced the missing teeth. Her main oral complaints were poor esthetics, teeth sensitiveness, and dentures instability. All the remaining natural teeth were removed and the dentures repaired and rebased in one session. Following wound healing and the maturation of the resi

This study aimed to assess the perception of dentists on the complications associated with prosthodontic treatments with acrylic dentures and overdentures in partially or complete edentulous patients. The study analyzed the complications of acrylic dentures and overdentures using a questionnaire with 24 open or closed questions, with single or multiple answers. The participants were 63 dentists, mostly women (77.8%), aged between 30 and 39 years old (52.4%), more than half of them with a clinical experience of less than 15 years. The main complications encountered were: lesions of the oral muc

A device is proposed, by which bigger plastic details for stomatological purposes can be formed via high air pressure. For that purpose, a gas flow is led away to a special bell through an armoured rubber hose from the compressive installation of the somatological unit. The plastic foil is fixed by a clip-holder, adjusted also for work with basis-plaques. After the formation of the foil-matrix and its cooling, the air pressure is stopped. The device is prompted by the desire to facilitate the production of details necessary for the clinic, for the dental mechanic laboratory and for the stomato

Impacted sharp foreign bodies in the oesophagus can be very difficult to manage. When attempts are made to remove such objects inappropriately, life-threatening complications such as oesophageal perforation can occur. We hare reported a rare case of impacted denture in the oesophagus where endoscopic removal was not possible due to the perforation already caused by the denture, sinee this would have caused an oesophageal laceration, which could have proved fatal. Hence surgical removal had to be performed with repair of the oesophageal perforation.

AIM: Debonding of denture teeth from the denture base can be frustrating for both the clinician as well as his or her patients. The wear resistance of composite denture teeth has been well investigated since their introduction, but there have been few studies about the bonding of these teeth to acrylic denture base resins. The aim of this study was to compare the bond strengths of two brands of acrylic and one brand of multilithic denture teeth to acrylic denture base material.
METHODS AND MATERIALS: In this experimental-laboratory study, three types of denture teeth--Yaghoot, Super Brilian,

STATEMENT OF PROBLEM: Adequate bonding between pickup material and the newer generation of prepolymerized polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) for computer-aided-design and computer-aided manufacturing (CAD-CAM) dentures is essential to the success of treatment. However, studies on the bond between these 2 materials are lacking.
PURPOSE: The purpose of this in vitro study was to evaluate the bond strength of 3 different chairside implant LOCATOR attachment pickup material groups and prepolymerized PMMA by investigating their pushout force.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: Prepolymerized PMMA, (Lucitone 199)

BACKGROUND: Denture treatment is crucial for edentulous patients to maintain a long and healthy life, as well as restore their chewing function. After complete dentures are fitted, it is not uncommon for them to become ill-fitting due to ridge resorption over time, requiring adjustments or relining procedures. Residual ridge resorption results from the combined influence of various local and systemic factors. There have been no reported cases of patients who have worn complete dentures for an extended period without experiencing significant alveolar ridge resorption. I report a case of a patie

OBJECTIVES: To evaluate 2-year cumulative success and survival rates, changes in oral health-related quality of life (OHRQoL), and patient satisfaction among edentulous patients who continued to wear complete dentures fabricated by three-dimensional (3D) printing (CAD-3DPs) after a crossover randomized controlled trial (RCT).
METHODS: Eighteen edentulous patients (36 dentures) wearing maxillary and mandibular CAD-3DPs after the RCT were prospectively followed. Events were denture fracture, repair, relining, or occlusal reconstruction (success rate) and discontinuation of use (survival rate).

The clinical picture and the aetiology of prosthesis-induced alterations of the oral mucosa are presented. In the light of personal gerontological observations, the authors deal with the mechanical irritation produced by the prosthesis as the main aetiological factor and discuss its effects on prophylaxis, diagnosis and therapy.

We report herein the case of a 53-year-old female who came to the emergency room with the chief complaints of severe dysphagia and chest pain following accidental swallowing of her denture. The patient had swelling of the face, neck and eyelids with difficulty in breathing. A skull radiograph was taken, which revealed a missing partial denture from the right lower jaw. Anteroposterior radiograph of the chest showed two metallic objects in the mid-thorax, adjacent to the descending aorta. CT scan of the neck and chest revealed two metallic objects (measuring approximately 17mm each) in the midd
