BACKGROUND: A denture adhesive for dry mouth with good cleaning properties has recently been developed. While previous studies on models have shown the effectiveness of denture adhesives in terms of retention and cleanability, no reports have evaluated their effectiveness in the oral cavity. The aim of this study was to compare and investigate the retention and usability of an experimental palatal plate in the dentulous jaw using a denture adhesive for dry mouth, a conventional cream-type denture adhesive, an oral moisturizer, and a denture moisturizer.
METHODS: Ten healthy dentulous particip

OBJECTIVE: The objective was to in-vitro evaluate the mode of failure of abutments supporting fixed partial dentures (FPDs) via different retention techniques.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Thirty-six implants with diameter and length of 4.5 and 13 mm, respectively, were used to prepare 18 samples of FPDs. Based on the variations on abutment's design, the FPDs were divided into three groups: Group A is cement-based retention; Group B is screw-based retention; and Group C is multiunit screw-based retention. Using a chewing simulator, cyclic loads of 1,250,000 load cycles with the load of 70N were app

PURPOSE: This study aimed to determine the usefulness of machine learning techniques, specifically supervised and unsupervised learning, for assessing the cementation condition between a fixed partial denture (FPD) and its abutment using a resonance frequency analysis (RFA) system.
METHODS: An in vitro mandibular model was used with a single crown and three-unit bridge made of a high-gold alloy. Two cementation conditions for the single crown and its abutment were set: cemented and uncemented. Four cementation conditions were set for the bridge and abutments: both crowns were firmly cemented,

Background Retention is a critical determinant of complete denture success, with border molding playing a pivotal role in establishing an effective peripheral seal. While green stick compound has long been the conventional material, polycaprolactone (PCL) has recently emerged as a promising alternative. Aim This study aimed to compare the retention, patient comfort, and operator handling characteristics of complete denture bases fabricated using green stick compound and PCL border molding materials. Objectives The objectives of this study were to assess the retention achieved with green stick

It is generally assumed that passively fitting superstructures are a prerequisite for long-lasting implant success. In the study presented, the strain development of three-unit implant fixed partial dentures (FPDs) was evaluated at the bone surrounding the implant and on the superstructure using a strain gauge technique. Six groups of three-unit FPDs representing the commonly used techniques of bridge fabrication were investigated with 10 samples each, in order to quantify the influence of impression technique, mode of fabrication and retention mechanism on superstructure fit. Two ITI implants

BACKGROUND: Conventional removable partial dentures (RPDs) involve a process that is often susceptible to errors and demands a significant investment of time. The introduction of computer-aided design and computer-aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM) technology and materials witnessed significant advancements in recent years to produce accurate removable partial dentures. This study evaluated the retention and wear of PolyEtherKetoneKetone (PEKK) compared to Cobalt-Chromium (CoCr) in digitally fabricated double crown removable partial dentures for lower Kennedy Class I cases.
METHODS: The study was

A 6-year-old child with nonsyndromic oligodontia in the mixed dentition received a removable dental prosthesis with a polyetheretherketone framework and artificial gingiva, restoring esthetics and function. Computer-aided design and computer-aided manufacturing hemispherical glass-ceramic attachments were added to the teeth under the guidance of acid-etching and bonding guides to obtain an undercut area. The bonding and cementation of the attachments and the prosthesis delivery were completed in a single visit. This method offers a suitable prosthodontic treatment option for treating children

PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to examine the correlation between patient satisfaction with complete dentures and parameters of denture quality, oral condition, and flow rate of the submandibular and sublingual salivary glands.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: The parameters were evaluated on 50 denture wearers using semiquantitative scales and a recently described submandibular/sublingual saliva collector.
RESULTS: Most patients had a medication-induced reduced salivary flow rate (mean 0.024 mL/min/gland; SD 0.040). Submandibular/sublingual salivary flow rate correlated statistically with six

The introduction of a removable partial denture onto the dental arch significantly influences the mechanical stress characteristics of both the jawbone and oral mucosa. The aim of this study was to analyze the stress state caused by biting forces upon insertion of partial dentures into the assembly, and to understand the influence of the resulting contact pressure on its retention behavior. For this purpose, a numerical model of a removable partial denture is proposed based on 3D models developed using computer tomography data of the jawbone and the removable partial denture. The denture syste

BACKGROUND: Recently, a denture adhesive that is easy to clean and contain moisturizing ingredients have been developed for patients with dry mouth. Although the retentive force produced by conventional denture adhesives and oral moisturizers have been compared on models, no study has reported their comparison in the oral cavity. In this study, we aimed to clarify the effects of different directions of traction and loads at the time of pressure contact on the retentive force on a palatal plate made from a dentulous jaw model.
METHODS: A palatal plate was fabricated with thermoplastic resin on

Denture retention is related to forces necessary to completely remove the denture from its basal seat. The liquid-joint model for explaining denture retention is accepted by most of the authors. According to this model retentive force is a function of saliva surface tension, liquid film thickness, surface of contact and the liquid-denture contact angle. Based upon the literature, mucosa covered with the least amount of saliva exists at the area of the palate and the upper lip, consequently at the area of the upper denture retention. Dryness is dependent on the volume of saliva present on the o

Removable dentures are a non-invasive, cost-effective prosthodontic solution for the reduced dentition. Their intended purpose is the rehabilitation of harmonious oral function and aesthetics on a long-term basis. The prevalence of removable dentures among patients of advanced age is high and the quality of the dentures is often poor. The aim of this study was to find the most important shortcomings of removable dentures and address the main targets for improving the quality of prosthodontic rehabilitation. The records from dental check-ups in Austrian residential homes were analysed retrospec
