Bronchogenic cyst presenting as an esophageal mass.

The patient was a 36-year-old female. The patient underwent gastroscopy examination two months ago. Gastroscopy revealed a mass in the upper esophagus. Then the patient was admitted to our hospital for endoscopic treatment. After admission, the patient underwent endoscopic ultrasound. Endoscopic ultrasound revealed a hypoechoic lesion measuring 20.6 * 10.5 mm in the upper esophagus. The lesion originates from the intrinsic muscle layer. Approximately three-quarters of the lesions are located outside the cavity. The patient's chest enhanced CT showed cystic low-density lesions in the esophageal

Mediastinal esophageal cyst causing unilateral hyperlucent lung.

Unilateral emphysema secondary to bronchial obstruction by a foregut-derived mediastinal cyst is rare. Here we describe an infant with a unilateral hyperlucent lung due to compression on the left main bronchus by an esophageal cyst, visualized by chest computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging. A chest roentgenogram and a perfusion scan presented the normalized left lung after resection of the cyst.

Intracardiac epithelial cyst associated with esophageal atresia.

We describe an intracardiac epithelial cyst in association with esophageal atresia. The case is unusual in that the cyst was symptomatic and ultimately fatal. In addition, there was no other cardiac anomaly, although a range of extrathoracic malformations was present. There are three types of intracardiac epithelial cysts: congenital polycystic tumor of the atrioventricular node, a cyst as part of a teratoma, and, as in this case, a gross cyst. All of them are very rare. The association of a cardiac cyst and esophageal atresia in our case supports the theory that intracardiac cysts are derived

[A case of bronchogenic cyst in the esophageal wall].

A 73-year-old man with a right aortic arch was admitted because of stridor and dyspnea. We diagnosed a cervico-mediastinal cyst associated with bilateral recurrent laryngeal nerve palsy. Median sternotomy revealed a cystic tumor located in the esophageal wall. Microscopic examination of the resected cyst showed cartilage, smooth muscle and mucous gland, so the final diagnosis was bronchogenic cyst. The bilateral recurrent laryngeal nerve palsy was caused by chronic pressure from the cyst. Mediastinal cysts should be found and treated as early as possible, because these cysts may sometimes caus

Esophageal bronchogenic cyst and review of the literature.

BACKGROUND: Bronchogenic cysts are rare foregut abnormalities that arise from aberrant budding of the tracheobronchial tree early in embryological development. These cysts predominantly appear in the mediastinum, where they may compress nearby structures. Intra-abdominal bronchogenic cysts are rare. We report an intra-abdominal bronchogenic cyst that was excised laparoscopically. METHODS: A 40-year old female with a history of gastritis presented for evaluation of recurrent abdominal pain. A previous ultrasound showed cholelithiasis and a presumed portal cyst. Physical examination and laborat

Intra-thyroid esophageal duplication cyst: A case report.

BACKGROUND: Esophageal cysts are relatively rare in clinical practice, with most of the literature comprising case reports. Esophageal cysts protruding into the thyroid gland are easily misdiagnosed as thyroid tumors. No such cases have been reported so far. CASE SUMMARY: This article reports the case of a 31-year-old adult male diagnosed with thyroid nodules before admission. The patient underwent left thyroidectomy and isthmusectomy. During the surgery, esophageal cysts were identified in the esophageal muscle and thyroid glands. The pathology results confirmed a nodular goiter combined wit

Esophagectomy for a rapidly progressing esophageal duplication cyst.

Esophageal duplication cysts are rare and frequently asymptomatic anomalies of the adult gastrointestinal tract that are often misdiagnosed in clinical practice. Identifying the unique features of esophageal duplication cysts is therefore important. We report a unique case of esophageal duplication cyst in a 52-year-old woman with rapidly progressing chest pain and dysphagia. The cyst was found to share, in part, a remarkably inflammatory and edematous inner lining with the esophagus. Enucleation was not feasible, and therefore, esophagectomy was performed. The only long-term side effect that

Intra-abdominal esophageal duplication cyst in an adult.

Esophageal duplication cysts are congenital anomalies of the foregut that are rarely found in the abdomen. An accurate preoperative diagnosis is not always possible, so the definitive diagnosis can be made by histologic examination of the surgical specimen. We experienced a case of Intra-abdominal esophageal duplication cyst in a 52-year-old female, who initially presented with an esophageal submucosal tumor on upper gastrointestinal endoscopy. She did not have any gastrointestinal symptoms. Barium esophagography, chest computed tomography scan and endoscopic ultrasonography demonstrated the c

Esophageal duplication cyst associated with pulmonary cystic malformations.

Two cases of esophageal duplication cyst associated with pulmonary cystic malformations (cystic bronchiectasis with pneumonia in one, intrapulmonary bronchogenic cysts with bronchial atresia in the other) are reported. The coexistence of these complex anomalies supports the recognition that esophageal duplication cyst also is an entity of a broad spectrum of developmental abnormalities caused by abnormal budding of the primitive foregut. Nine cases of similar complex anomalies in the lung and esophagus have been reported. Although rare, this malformation complex should be borne in mind in the

Right Thoracoscopic Excision of an Esophageal Bronchogenic Cyst.

Bronchogenic cysts, first described in 1859, are rare congenital cystic malformations of the respiratory tract, with an incidence of one per 42,000-68,000 hospital admissions in one hospital series. They comprise 10-15% of mediastinal tumors and between 50% and 60% of mediastinal cystic lesions. Its clinical diagnosis is often challenging due to the absence of distinct imaging features. This case report focuses on the case of a 51-year-old female who initially received a misdiagnosis of esophageal leiomyoma. Subsequently, during exploration in the operating theater, right thoracoscopy revealed

Successful thoracoscopic resection of an esophageal bronchogenic cyst.

Esophageal bronchogenic cysts are rare, and since a limited number of cases has been reported, the treatment plan for asymptomatic patients is difficult. A 55-year-old man without any symptoms visited our hospital for further examination of an esophageal mass detected on simple computed tomography. Upper endoscopy showed the protruding, submucosal mass covered by normal mucosa, and endoscopic sonography confirmed hypoechoic lesions originating from the muscularis propria. The patient was diagnosed as having an esophageal duplication cyst and underwent thoracoscopic resection. Pathological find

Gigantic Mediastino-Abdominal Hydatic Cyst Through Esophageal Hiatus.

Hydatid disease is one of the most widespread and endemic infections causing a substantial health and economic burden. The liver and lungs remain the most affected viscera. We report the case of a 41-year-old man with an atypical presentation: a hydatid cyst of the liver with a massive extension to the mediastinum through the esophagus hiatus. This patient underwent a single-stage surgical session to treat the mediastinal and abdominal parts of the cyst through a unique thoracic route.

Intramural esophageal bronchogenic cyst mimicking achalasia in a toddler.

Bronchogenic cysts are congenital malformations of the tracheobronchial tree. We describe a 20-month-old male who presented with persistent non-bilious emesis; manometry and imaging were consistent with esophageal achalasia. During a planned laparoscopic Heller myotomy, an intramural bronchogenic cyst was discovered in the anterior esophagus at the level of the gastroesophageal junction and successfully resected with resolution of his symptoms.
