Participation of children in focus groups has received scant attention despite the effectiveness of group interviews in eliciting children's views. Focus groups are a valuable approach for generating qualitative data from children; however, conducting school-based focus groups involves challenges specific to the school milieu and the ages and development of the participants. Lessons learned from conducting school-based focus groups during the Child-Adolescent Teasing Scale (CATS) project are applied to examination of key issues including entry to schools, informed consent and confidentiality,

INTRODUCTION: Digital cognitive assessments (DCAs) may facilitate early recognition of cognitive decline in the context of Alzheimer's disease (AD). While DCAs are increasingly emerging, they are often not used in practice. We assessed facilitators and barriers of using DCAs according to older individuals and patients.
METHODS: In five focus groups, we presented three different DCAs to older individuals with unimpaired cognition (n = 14), subjective cognitive decline (n = 11) and mild cognitive impairment with biomarker-confirmed AD (n = 4) and their caregivers (n = 2). Participants discussed

PURPOSE: Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) is a progressive disease leading to loss of muscle strength and control, and as such limiting patients' independence. Assistive devices can help individuals with ALS; however, their use by ALS patients is limited. To increase use rates, we expect that devices need to be tailored to ALS patients. The aim of this study was to identify wishes, requirements and values of ALS patients regarding assistive devices for the upper extremity through focus groups involving ALS patients, their relatives and medical professionals.

BACKGROUND: Patients with chronic pain face significant barriers in finding clinicians to manage long-term opioid therapy (LTOT). For patients on LTOT, it is increasingly common to have them sign opioid treatment agreements (OTAs). OTAs enumerate the risks of opioids, as informed consent documents would, but also the requirements that patients must meet to receive LTOT. While there has been an ongoing scholarly discussion about the practical and ethical implications of OTA use in the abstract, little is known about how clinicians use them and if OTAs themselves modify clinician prescribing pra

UNLABELLED: Task sharing in outpatient dementia care - Focus groups with GPs and nurses Abstract. Background: Caring for people with dementia (PWD) is challenging for the health system and family carers and can only be managed through interprofessional medical and nursing care.
AIM: The AHeaD study investigated attitudes of general practitioners (GPs) and nurses towards the transfer of activities previously performed by GPs to advanced nurses in the outpatient care of PWDs.
METHODS: In four focus group discussions with 10 GPs and 13 nurses, qualitative content analysis was used to investigat

INTRODUCTION: Kidney transplant education in dialysis facilities could be optimized with internet resources, like videos, but most qualitative research predates widespread availability of online video education about kidney transplantation. To improve understanding of dialysis staff transplant education practices, as well as the potential value of video, we conducted focus groups of dialysis center staff members in Buffalo, NY.
METHODS/APPROACH: Seventeen focus groups (97 participants: 53 nurses, 10 dialysis technicians, 6 social workers, 6 dieticians, 7 administrative personnel, 2 trainees,

Little systematic information is available on mental health issues related to bioterrorism. Five focus groups were conducted with Capitol Hill office staff (n = 28 total participants) to learn about their experience of the anthrax incident on October 15, 2001. More than 2,000 verbal passages were coded into categories and themes by using qualitative analysis software. Issues emerging from the discussions included difficulties utilizing customary social supports, concerns over potential long-term dangers created by efforts to eradicate the anthrax, and nonadherence to antianthrax medication reg

BACKGROUND: Warfarin is a medication used in conditions with an increased risk of blood clots. Due to the potential for serious side effects, treatment must be closely monitored by measuring the International Normalised Ratio (INR). In some health trusts, Noklus (Norwegian Organization for Quality Improvement of Laboratory Examinations) offers training for patients in self-management of INR. The aim of this study was to explore Norwegian patients' experiences with self-management of INR and their motivations.

Ride-sourcing has recently been at the centre of attention as the most disruptive mode of transport associated with the so-called shared mobility era. Drivers, riders, the platform, policymakers, and the general public are considered as the main stakeholders of the system. While ride-sourcing platforms have been growing, so did the heightened tension between them and their drivers. That is why understanding drivers' behaviour and preferences is of key importance to ride-sourcing companies in managing their relationship with drivers (also known as driver-partners) and in retaining them in the p

An exploratory qualitative study was undertaken in Luton to examine the issues that may underlie the severe shortage of organ donors from the United Kingdom's (UK) Asian population. To date, this subject area had not been researched within this sub-population of the UK. Thus, focus groups were employed as the initial stage of research to pre-test the applicability and validity of questions used in empirical studies undertaken within other cultural groups, and to allow the opportunity for new and unexpected issues to emerge. These focus groups also allowed us to gauge the response of conducting

In recent years, particularly since the outbreaks of scarlet fever and invasive group A streptococcal diseases/infections (iGAS) in several European countries in 2022, iGAS has garnered widespread attention. Recently, Japan experienced an outbreak of a specific type of iGAS, streptococcal toxic shock syndrome (STSS). The outbreak was reported under the label"flesh-eating bacteria,"emphasizing the pathogenic potential of group A streptococcus (GAS). Although GAS is not a newly emerging pathogen and remains susceptible to antibiotics, and guidelines exist for the diagnosis and treatment of vario

BACKGROUND: Dual Pathology has a major impact on the individual's life and on society and is associated with worsening severity and persistence of both mental illness and addiction, which is why scientific evidence increasingly points treatment of patients with Dual Pathology.
OBJECTIVE: Evaluate how participants in group therapy experience the group and their relationship with the professionals.
METHODS: A qualitative descriptive study using focus groups was conducted with 12 participants attending a Dual Pathology Group in a psychiatric hospital in Portugal. The data was analyzed using Bra

BACKGROUND: Co-design methods, which create innovation tailored to the end-user needs and setting, are increasingly used to improve research uptake and impact. Peer review and methodologists have emphasised the need for early, meaningful, and continuous involvement of stakeholders, and the transparent and detailed reporting of co-design methods. The implementation of both complex interventions (such as an integrated care pathway), and technology, into healthcare is difficult and has high failure rates. Designing, implementing, and adapting interventions to ensure they work in the local context

Cognitive health is a significant concern for people aging with HIV/AIDS. Psychosocial group therapies may help people aging with HIV who experience cognitive challenges cope with their symptoms. The COVID-19 pandemic revealed in-person group therapies need adaptation for technology-mediated delivery. Peer-led focus groups discussed adapting cognitive remediation group therapy (CRGT) as an online intervention. CRGT combines mindfulness-based stress reduction and brain training activities. Purposive sampling recruited people aging with HIV (40+) who self-identified cognitive concerns and reside

Digestive and liver disease : official journal of the Italian Society of Gastroenterology and the Italian Association for the Study of the Liver2015eng
An improved understanding of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease epidemiology would lead to identification of individuals at high risk of developing chronic liver disease and extra-hepatic complications, thus contributing to more effective case finding of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease among selected groups. We aimed to illustrate the epidemiology of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease in high-risk groups, which were identified based on existing literature. To this end, PubMed was searched to retrieve original articles published until May 2015 using relevant and pertinent keywords "nonalcoholic

In the evaluation of community intervention program both quantitative and qualitative methods are essential for analysis of effectiveness and impact. Evaluation of such programs is affected by unique theoretical, conceptual, methodological, analytical and political impediments. In this article different methods are briefly reviewed. Among these are survey methods, focus groups and related interview methods, ethnographic and other qualitative methods. In Orebro, a combination of qualitative and quantitative methods has been used in the planning of community intervention with two suburban areas.

PURPOSE: Medication adherence is crucial for blood pressure control. Knowledge of medication adherence and its influencing factors, particularly within cultural and healthcare contexts, is essential for developing effective strategies to enhance medication adherence. Qualitative studies have explored patients' perspectives globally. Few have focused on strategies to improve adherence, and such research is lacking in Portugal. This study aimed to gather the perspectives of Portuguese patients with Arterial Hypertension (HTN) concerning the most effective strategies to enhance adherence to antih
