A network-based pharmacology study of active compounds and targets of Fritillaria thunbergii against influenza.

Seasonal and pandemic influenza infections are serious threats to public health and the global economy. Since antigenic drift reduces the effectiveness of conventional therapies against the virus, herbal medicine has been proposed as an alternative. Fritillaria thunbergii (FT) have been traditionally used to treat airway inflammatory diseases such as coughs, bronchitis, pneumonia, and fever-based illnesses. Herein, we used a network pharmacology-based strategy to predict potential compounds from Fritillaria thunbergii (FT), target genes, and cellular pathways to better combat influenza and inf

Transcriptomic analysis reveals effects of fertilization towards growth and quality of Fritillariae thunbergii bulbus.

Fritillariae thunbergii Bulbus (FTB) is a traditional Chinese medicine that has been widely cultivated for its expectorant, antitussive, antiasthmatic, antiviral, and anticancer properties. The yield and quality of F. thunbergii are influenced by cultivation conditions, such as the use of fertilizers. However, the optimal type of fertilizers for maximum quality and yield and underlying mechanisms are not clear. We collected F. thunbergii using raw chicken manure (RC), organic fertilizer (OF), and plant ash (PA) as the base fertilizer in Pan'an County, Jinhua City, Zhejiang Province as experime

Studies on the Incompatibility between Bulbus fritillariae and Radix aconiti praeparata Based on the P-gp.

Bulbus fritillariae and Radix aconiti praeparata are an incompatible herbal pair in the traditional Chinese medicine theory "eighteen incompatible medicaments," and they should not be used simultaneously in clinical treatment for safety. This study aimed to investigate the incompatibility mechanism between Bulbus fritillariae and Radix aconiti praeparata based on their interaction with P-glycoprotein (P-gp). The interaction between Bulbus fritillariae and Radix aconiti praeparata during in vitro decocting as well as in vivo absorption was investigated by determining the dry extract yield and b

The Fritillaria alkaloid peiminine acts as a chemosensitizer to potentiate oxaliplatin efficacy against gastric cancer.

BACKGROUND: Fritillaria walujewii Regel (Xinjiang Bei-Mu), an authentic ("Dao-di") medicinal herb documented in Chinese pharmacopoeias, is traditionally used to treat respiratory disorders. Its principal steroidal alkaloid, peiminine (PMI), demonstrates significant anticancer activity. Oxaliplatin (Oxa), a first-line chemotherapeutic cornerstone for gastric cancer (GC), is limited clinically by intrinsic chemoresistance. Natural product-derived monomers represent a promising strategy for developing chemosensitizers to overcome such resistance. However, the potential of PMI to counteract Oxa ch

Effects of edpetiline from Fritillaria on inflammation and oxidative stress induced by LPS stimulation in RAW264.7 macrophages.

The dry bulbs of Fritillaria cirrhosa species can help resolve phlegm, soothe cough, clear heat, and moisten the lung, and the main active components responsible for these effect are its alkaloids. However, it is unclear whether or how edpetiline in Fritillaria can inhibit the excessive inflammatory response and oxidative stress. In this research, we aimed to examine this aspect using lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-stimulated RAW264.7 macrophages as an inflammatory model. The quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction and western blot analysis results showed that edpetiline significantly inhib
