Detection of ceramic stress intensity factor based on digital holography.

This study investigates the application of digital holography in investigating fracture problems of the ceramic material magnesium oxide under three-point bending fracture experiments. A digital holographic optical path system was constructed for this purpose. Three-point bending experiments were performed on magnesium oxide samples using the system, with holograms of the specimens recorded both before and after the application of loads. By utilizing the angular spectrum diffraction reconstruction algorithm, we obtained the complex amplitude of the object wave under varying load conditions and

Polarization-Dependent 3D Holography Generated by Inverse Design Nanoprinting Metasurface.

3D holographic imaging holds great promise as an immersive display platform, enabling the projection of cubic objects in a specific space and facilitating direct interaction with humans. As 3D holographic imaging continues to evolve, metasurfaces emerge as a promising solution due to their lightweight, compact, and small-scale properties at the macro level. However, to meet the growing demands for higher information storage, greater freedom in display, and smoother 3D holographic imaging, there is a need for a new metasurface capable of accommodating enhanced 3D holographic abilities by incorp

Autofocus in digital holography with time reversal and depth-dependent sampling.

Accurate object localization is critical for robust autofocus in digital holography (DH). Here, we present a time-reversal (TR) symmetry-enabled autofocus strategy integrated with depth-dependent randomized sparse sampling. Our approach is grounded in the low-rank structure of the TR operator. This inherent property, arising from the dynamical constraints of the wave equation, provides a physical foundation for sparse sampling without compromising subspace separation. By using independent, uniformly distributed test point sets at each axial plane, the method effectively decorrelates sampling-i

Implementation of double-pulsed holography in evaluation of whole-body vibration.

This study used a unique holographic technique to evaluate the effects of vibration on soft tissues and bones. It was possible to record forced whole-body vibration in humans by holograph interferometry using a double-pulsed ruby laser. The study investigated the manner in which the muscles of the back and vertebral column are affected by vibrations applied to the human buttocks in the sitting position. The subject was exposed to vibration at two frequencies: 40 and 60 Hz (vertical Z axis). Transmission of the vibrations along the subject's back was recorded by means of double-pulsed holograph

Evaluation of Fourier-inspired single-pixel holography under photon-limited conditions.

Phase imaging under photon-limited conditions remains a fundamental challenge across many imaging applications, where excessive illumination can cause sample damage or structural degradation. Single-pixel detectors (SPDs), such as photomultiplier tubes (PMTs), offer high sensitivity and low noise, making them particularly suitable for low-light imaging. By integrating SPDs with digital holography, single-pixel holography (SPH) enables phase-sensitive measurements with high detection sensitivity, making it particularly attractive for photon-limited imaging scenarios. Among various SPH approache

Metasurface-integrated silicon nitride waveguides for holography with full polarization control.

Here, a silicon-based metasurface integrated on a silicon nitride (SiNx) waveguide is proposed, enabling continuous control of light's phase and polarization. By utilizing resonant phase, geometric phase, and detour phase with fixed inter-unit spacing, the metasurface achieves full phase coverage under arbitrary polarization states while reducing design complexity. We demonstrate hologram images of letters under four polarization states: x-, y-, right circular, and left elliptical polarizations, achieving phase control with the same amplitude in corresponding polarizations. The results provide

Computer-generated holography using the generalized Van Cittert-Zernike Schell propagator.

We introduce a computer-generated holography system based on the theory of partial spatial coherence, simplifying the required optical setups and improving computational efficiency. The method utilizes the generalized Van Cittert-Zernike Schell (GVS) model to calculate the forward propagation of light emitted by a common mobile phone screen and reflected by a phase-only spatial light modulator at various propagation distances. An inverse problem is then solved using stochastic gradient descent optimization to obtain the intensity and phase holograms that produce the desired intensity images at

Repeatability and reliability of retinal arterial hemodynamics measurement using Doppler holography.

SIGNIFICANCE: Reliable quantification of retinal arterial blood flow is important for diagnosing and monitoring ocular and systemic diseases. Existing techniques are limited by invasiveness, motion artifacts, or a lack of quantitative flow estimation. AIM: The aim is to assess the repeatability, reproducibility, and robustness of laser Doppler holography (LDH) for measuring retinal arterial hemodynamics. APPROACH: We acquired LDH data at 67 kHz in healthy volunteers (14 eyes intra-day and 4 eyes inter-day) and quantified blood volume rate, resistivity index (RI), and vessel diameter. Additio

Outdoor demonstration of range-selective digital holography for three-dimensional imaging.

Frequency-modulated continuous-wave range-selective digital holography (FMCW RSDH) is a coherent imaging technique that enables selective imaging of objects, even when multiple are present in the depth of field. In this paper, the FMCW RSDH technique is demonstrated as an alternate method to record three-dimensional (3D) point clouds outdoors without mechanical scanning. The range of the RSDH system was extended by applying the frequency shift on the local oscillator (LO) beam in the RF domain (rather than the optical domain with acousto-optic frequency shifters, as was previously demonstrated

Quantum-inspired computational drug design for phytopharmaceuticals: a herbal holography analysis.

CONTEXT: Modern medication discovery is undergoing a paradigm change at the junction of herbal pharmacology with computational modeling informed by quantum theory. Herbal compounds, which have often been considered as complex and poorly understood entities, have historically been investigated using linear screening approaches and reductionist bioactivity models. A novel paradigm being presented in this work is herbal holography. Herbal molecules are seen by it as multi-dimensional systems best understood using holographic and quantum theories. As the pharmacological potential of plant-based co

Probing the electron motion in molecules using forward-scattering photoelectron holography.

Charge migration initiated by the coherent superposition of several electronic states is a basic process in intense laser-matter interactions. Observing this process on its intrinsic timescale is one of the central goals of attosecond science. Here, using forward-scattering photoelectron holography we theoretically demonstrate a scheme to probe the charge migration in molecules. In our scheme, by solving the time-dependent Schrödinger equation, the photoelectron momentum distributions (PEMDs) for strong-field tunneling ionization of the molecule are obtained. For a superposition state, it is s

Single-shot inline holography using a physics-aware diffusion model: errata.

We present an erratum to our paper [Opt. Express32, 10444 (2024)10.1364/OE.517233]. This erratum aims to address an unintentional error in the methodology presented in Part 3.1. The error may lead to confusion among readers, and we provide additional clarification to ensure a comprehensive understanding of the technique. It is important to note that these corrections do not affect the results or conclusions of the original work.

2π ambiguity-free digital holography method for stepped phase imaging: erratum.

We present an erratum to J. Opt. Soc. Am. A, 39, 2376 (2022)JOAOD60740-323210.1364/JOSAA.476200. This erratum adds the mathematical proof of the unique solution of Eq. (3) in Appendix A. At the same time, we correct an unintended error in which the phase step in Fig. 3(a2) and Fig. 4(a2) did not exceed 2π. The signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) required in the proposed method is related to the step size. We analyze the required SNR under different step sizes and find that the smaller the step size, the higher the SNR that is required.

Noncontact vibration measurement using three spatial-frequency shifting coherent digital holography.

A new digital coherent holographic system that works as a spatial-frequency shifter for measuring three-dimensional (3D) vibration of an object is proposed. The spatial-frequency shifter is constructed by a system of three mirrors inclined with different small angles to shift the object wave to three different frequencies in the spatial-frequency domain. By applying the Fourier transform method and appropriate filters to the hologram recorded by the camera of the system, a three-phase set of object waves corresponding to three shifted frequencies was obtained. From the relation between the pha

Three-dimensional dynamic measurement of irregular stringy objects via digital holography.

Dynamic stringy objects such as liquid rims and ligaments are frequently observed in important applications such as the multiphase breakup of fuel droplets. We develop a new method based on digital in-line holography to automatically measure complicated stringy objects. A static spring mounted on a rotator is measured to validate the effectiveness and accuracy of the method. The sections are extracted along the skeleton of the spring in a depth-of-field extended image and then sized and located as individual particles using a hybrid method. The surface points of sections are stitched together

Digital holography as 3D tracking tool for assessing acoustophoretic particle manipulation.

The integration of digital holography (DH) imaging and the acoustic manipulation of micro-particles in a microfluidic environment is investigated. The ability of DH to provide efficient 3D tracking of particles inside a microfluidic channel is exploited to measure the position of multiple objects moving under the effect of stationary ultrasound pressure fields. The axial displacement provides a direct verification of the numerically computed positions of the standing wave's node, while the particles' transversal movement highlights the presence of nodes in the planar direction. Moreover, DH is

Range-selective digital holography for three-dimensional imaging of a complex object.

Frequency-modulated continuous-wave (FMCW) range-selective digital holography (RSDH) achieved by frequency shifting the reference local oscillator beam has previously been used to selectively image two objects within the depth of field of the imaging system at short ranges. In this paper, we present a three-dimensional (3D) imaging demonstration using FMCW RSDH. This technique was used to image and reconstruct a 3D object, improving on past methods by reducing the need for fast frame rate sensor arrays and reducing the total sensor integration time. This allows the data for a 3D reconstruction

Analyses of the Tympanic Membrane Impulse Response Measured with High-Speed Holography.

The Tympanic Membrane (TM) transforms acoustic energy to ossicular vibration. The shape and the displacement of the TM play an important role in this process. We developed a High-speed Digital Holography (HDH) system to measure the shape and transient displacements of the TM induced by acoustic clicks. The displacements were further normalized by the measured shape to derive surface normal displacements at over 100,000 points on the TM surface. Frequency and impulse response analyses were performed at each TM point, which enable us to describe 2D surface maps of four new TM mechanical paramete
