Hypertriglyceridemic Waist in Patients with Type 2 Diabetes: Its Relationship to Selected Markers of Vascular Damage.

Background: To evaluate the association between hypertriglyceridemic waist (HTGW), a promising marker of visceral adiposity and cardiovascular (CV) risk, and different indicators of vascular damage in type 2 diabetes (T2D) patients. Methods: This case-control study included 161 patients with T2D (91 males, 70 females) and 40 healthy controls (24 males, 16 females). HTWG was defined as waist circumference >90 cm in men or >85 cm in women and triglyceride concentrations >2 mmol/L. In addition to anthropometric and metabolic parameters, markers of endothelial dysfunction, namely von Willebrand fa

The association between "hypertriglyceridemic waist" and sub-clinical atherosclerosis in a multiethnic population: a cross-sectional study.

BACKGROUND: "Hypertriglyceridemic waist" (HTGW) phenotype, an inexpensive early screening tool for detection of individuals at risk for type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease was found to be associated with subclinical atherosclerosis in various patient populations such as those with diabetes mellitus, chronic kidney disease, and those infected with human immunodeficiency virus. However, less is known regarding an association between HTGW and subclinical atherosclerosis in the apparently healthy, multiethnic population. Therefore, the aim of the study was to explore the association between

Association between hypertriglyceridemic-waist phenotype and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease: a general population-based study.

BACKGROUND: Hypertriglyceridemic-waist (HTGW) phenotype has been proposed as a practical tool for screening the risk of cardiovascular diseases and glycemic metabolic disease. This study sought to investigate the relationship between HTGW phenotype and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). METHODS: A total of 14,251 subjects who took part in health screening were enrolled in the study and NAFLD was diagnosed by abdominal ultrasound. According to triglyceride (TG) and waist circumference, the study population was divided into four phenotypes, in which HTGW phenotype was defined as TG ≥ 1.

Hypertriglyceridemic Waist Phenotype and Lipid Accumulation Product: Two Comprehensive Obese Indicators of Waist Circumference and Triglyceride to Predict Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus in Chinese Population.

PURPOSE: To determine whether hypertriglyceridemic waist (HTGW) and high lipid accumulation product (LAP) preceded the incidence of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), and to investigate the interactions of HTGW and LAP with other components of metabolic syndrome on the risk of T2DM. METHODS: A total of 15,717 eligible participants without baseline T2DM and aged 35 and over were included from a Chinese rural cohort. Cox proportional hazards regression models were used to estimate the association of HTGW and LAP with the incidence of T2DM, and the restricted cubic spline model was used to evaluat

Hypertriglyceridemic waist-to-height ratio and the triple burden of hypertension, diabetes, and dyslipidemia in adults: association and network analysis.

BACKGROUND: Hypertension, diabetes, and dyslipidemia frequently co-occur, yet simple screening tools are lacking in resource-limited settings. The hypertriglyceridemic waist-to-height ratio (HTH/WH) phenotype has emerged as a potential indicator, but its utility for identifying the triple burden of hypertension, diabetes, and dyslipidemia remains underexplored, particularly in underdeveloped regions of China. METHODS: This cross-sectional study included 10,796 adults (≥18 years) from the Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, Northwest China. The HTH/WH phenotype was defined as triglycerides ≥1.7 mmo

The association of hypertriglyceridemic waist phenotype with hypertension: A cross-sectional study in a Chinese middle aged-old population.

The present study aimed to evaluate the relationship between the hypertriglyceridemic waist (HTGW) phenotype and hypertension. We undertook a cross-sectional study with a sample of 9015 adults from China. The HTGW phenotype was defined as elevated waist circumference (WC) and elevated triglyceride (TG) concentration. Logistic regression analysis was used to evaluate the association between the HTGW phenotype and hypertension. The prevalence of hypertension was significantly higher in individuals with the HTGW phenotype, than in those with the normal waist normal triglyceride (NWNT) phenotype (

Cardiac Effects of Combined Versus Individual Interventions of Mediterranean Diet and Exercise in Adults with the Hypertriglyceridemic Waist Phenotype: A Randomized Trial.

BACKGROUND: The hypertriglyceridemic waist phenotype, combining abdominal obesity and elevated serum triglycerides, is associated with adverse cardiovascular prognosis. The combination of dietary and exercise programs has the potential to improve outcomes with regard to adverse cardiac remodeling and dysfunction associated with poor metabolic health. We tested the hypothesis that the combination of a Mediterranean Diet (MedDiet) and exercise interventions improves cardiac structure and function more than the sum of each individual intervention. METHODS: We performed a randomized 2 × 2 factori

Epidemiological aspects of the association of the hypertriglyceridemic waist phenotype with metabolic syndrome and cardiovascular risk factors in Morocco. Case the Amazigh population from a geographic region called Souss.

BACKGROUND: The global prevalence of metabolic syndrome (MetS) increases susceptibility to non-communicable diseases such as obesity, type 2 diabetes, and cardiovascular disease, posing significant health risks. Effective prevention and management require objective tools. The hypertriglyceridemic waist (TG+WC+) phenotype is proposed as a less expensive approach to identify individuals with metabolic syndrome and other cardiovascular risk factors. OBJECTIVE: The current aim of this investigation is to study the epidemiological characteristics of the hypertriglyceridemic waist phenotype and the
