Pulsed dye laser treatment of genital warts.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: Genital warts represent benign epithelial proliferations induced by human papillomavirus. The goal of treatment is the clearance of visible warts. Different regimens are available. Flashlamp-pumped pulsed dye laser (FPDL) represents one of many treatment options for the management of viral warts (verrucae vulgares), its effectiveness being comparable with that of conventional therapies. We evaluated the effectivity of FPDL light for the treatment of genital warts. STUDY DESIGN/MATERIALS AND METHODS: A prospective study was performed to examine the efficacy of FPDL i

Treatment of lupus erythematosus with pulsed dye laser.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: The treatment of cutaneous lupus erythematosus (CLE) with dye and argon laser has been evaluated in a number of articles in recent years. The improvement of telangiectasias and chronic erythema of the cutaneous lesions was based on the selective photothermolysis ablation of the dilated capillaries and venules. STUDY DESIGN/MATERIALS AND METHODS: We describe the results of the treatment of cutaneous lesions of 14 patients; eight with discoid lupus erythematosus (DLE) and six with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). Three patients received a treatment with flashlamp p

Treating REM syndrome with the pulsed dye laser.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: REM syndrome (reticular erythematous mucinosis) is a benign but bothersome skin disease that common occurs in middle age and among women. Local and systemic treatment measures are often associated with a high rate of side effects and relapses are common. We evaluated the pulsed dye laser as an alternative method because of its good efficacy in vascular skin diseases. STUDY DESIGN/MATERIALS AND METHODS: We treated two female patients with REM syndrome using the pulsed dye laser. RESULTS: In both patients the erythematous skin changes were almost completely removed af

[Molluscum contagiosum: treatment with pulsed dye laser].

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: There is a wide variety of methods for the treatment of mollusca contagiosa. Especially with anxious children, most of them are not applicable because they are often invasive, painful, time intensive or difficult to conduct (e.g. if a stay in hospital is necessary). In order to verify the existing case reports, this paper evaluates the application of the pulsed dye laser as a possible therapy alternative in cases of mollusca contagiosa. PATIENTS/METHODS: In a prospective study 20 patients with mollusca contagiosa were treated with the pulsed dye laser. RESULTS: The

Pulsed dye laser therapy for viral warts.

Twenty-eight patients with 103 recalcitrant and 20 simple viral warts were treated with the Cynosure PhotoGenica V pulsed dye laser at 585 nm, and fluencies of 6.0-9.0 J/cm(2). An eradication rate of 92% for recalcitrant warts after an average of 2.1 (range 1-7) treatments and 75% for simple warts after an average of 1.6 (range 1-2) treatments was achieved with a mean follow-up period of 7.2 (range 3-15) months. Mild hypopigmentation was noted in one patient and superficial infection in another. Unlike ablative treatment modalities, with pulsed dye laser therapy, no wound was created thus avoi

Treatment of retinal hemangiomas with dye yellow laser.

Retinal capillary hemangioma (angiomatosis retinae; von Hippel's disease) is a relatively uncommon vascular tumor. When seen in association with systemic angiomas, it is known as von Hippel-Lindau disease. Untreated, these tumors can cause numerous sight threatening sequelae, including exudative and tractional retinal detachment. Recently, the dye yellow laser has been demonstrated to be a safe and effective method of ablating retinal hemangiomas. This paper discusses the case of a retinal hemangioma that was successfully treated with the dye yellow laser. The current treatment modalities of r

A preliminary study of dye-enhanced laser photosclerosis.

Laser ablation of veins after injection of wavelength-specific dyes to enhance and localize energy absorption could provide a useful adjunct to current treatment options. To enhance the absorption of diode laser energy at 808 nm, ear veins of 41 rabbits were infused with 2 to 3 ml of indocyanine green dye (maximum absorption, 805 nm) and exposed for 2 to 20 seconds. Animals were killed between 0 and 28 days after operation. Discrete time intervals of laser exposure exist during which various-sized vessels can be ablated without significant thermal injury to the overlying tissue. Small vessels

Dye laser treatment for hemorrhagic vascular lesions.

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: It is generally thought that bleeding from a hemangioma is difficult to stop. With development of the long pulse dye laser (LPDL), it has become possible to treat hemangioma with a large blood vessel diameter. Thus, it is effective in treating infantile hemangioma and pyogenic granuloma. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Five patients who visited our hospital from July 2015 to July 2017 due to hemorrhagic hemangioma were treated using a flash lamp excitation pulse dye laser with parameters of 7 mm spot size, 3 msec pulse width, fluence 12-14J/cm2, DCD 30 msec, and delay 30 msec. The pulsed-dye laser for treatment of cutaneous conditions.

The concept of selective photothermolysis simply states that if one heats target tissue with a laser that is selectively absorbed by that tissue, heat should last sufficiently enough to cause damage to the target tissue, but not so long for the heat to spread to the surrounding tissue. The pulsed-dye laser (PDL) was the first laser to utilize the concept of selective photothermolysis to treat dermatologic conditions. The first application of this concept was directed at treating port-wine stain birthmarks (PWSs). A myriad of conditions that were previously only marginally treated by earlier-ge

Pulsed dye laser therapy for pediatric warts.

Viral wart infections constitute one of the most common pediatric skin diseases, and various modalities have been used to manage them. Although pulsed dye laser therapy is known to be a safe and efficacious modality, the reported cure rates for this method have varied, and no studies have reported treatment of pediatric patients alone. This prospective, nonblinded, nonrandomized study was performed to evaluate the efficacy and safety of pulsed dye laser therapy for pediatric warts. We found that this method is safe, relatively effective, and worth considering as an additional therapeutic optio

Pulsed dye laser treatment of laryngeal granulomas.

Laryngeal granulomas are effectively treated with antireflux therapy and speech therapy. Failure to respond leads to treatment with Botox or surgical excision. We report on the use of the pulsed dye laser for treating chronic granulomas that do not respond to standard therapy. We performed a retrospective review from September 2002 to September 2003. Patients identified with chronic granulomas that were not responding to standard therapy were treated in our office with the pulsed dye laser. Ten patients were identified; the mean age was 58 years. Two patients underwent more than one pulsed dye

Treatment of xanthelasma palpebrarum with the pulsed dye laser.

UNLABELLED: BACKGROUND OF OBJECTIVE: Treatment of xanthelasma palpebrarum may prove difficult due to its delicate location at the periorbita and its sometimes extensive dimension. During recent years, carbon dioxide and argon lasers have been used with good results. However, local anesthesia is always required, and there is a concrete risk of scarring and pigmentation changes after the treatment. STUDY DESIGN/PATIENTS AND METHODS: In this case report, we describe for the first time the treatment of xanthelasmas with the pulsed dye laser. RESULTS: This technique can be carried out without ane
