Impact of elicitors on essential oil compositions and phytochemical constituents in Lavandula stoechas L.

Lavandula stoechas L. (LS) is an aromatic evergreen herb used broadly in the food, pharmaceutical, and perfume industries. However, the inducer effect of elicitors on secondary metabolites (SMs) biosynthesis in LS is nebulous. In addition, the precise mechanism of elicitors in cells remains unexplored. Hence, the primary objective of this study was to analyze the changes in phytochemical compositions of LSs treated with a biotic elicitor (chitin) and an abiotic one (copper nanoparticle) under in vitro and greenhouse conditions, with the aim of choosing an appropriate elicitor type, concentrati

Effect of heat shock on ultrastructure and calcium distribution in Lavandula pinnata L. glandular trichomes.

The effects of heat shock (HS) on the ultrastructure and calcium distribution of Lavandula pinnata secretory trichomes are examined using transmission electron microscopy and potassium antimonate precipitation. After 48-h HS at 40°C, plastids become distorted and lack stroma and osmiophilic deposits, the cristae of the mitochondria become indistinct, the endoplasmic reticulum acquires a chain-like appearance with ribosomes prominently attached to the lamellae, and the plasma and organelle membranes become distorted. Heat shock is associated with a decrease in calcium precipitates in the tricho

Lavandula angustifolia oil induces oxidative stress, stiffening of membranes, and cell wall in Cryptococcus spp.

The Cryptococcus neoformans and Cryptococcus gattii species complexes are the etiological agents of cryptococcosis, a disease responsible for 181 000 deaths annually worldwide due to late diagnosis and limited treatment options. Studies focusing on the identification of new substances with antifungal activity, such as essential oils (EOs), are urgently needed. While the antifungal effects of EO have already been suggested, their mechanism of action at the molecular level still requires evaluation. In this work, we assessed the molecular changes induced by the exposure of Cryptococus neoformans
