Eugenia sulcata (Myrtaceae) Nanoemulsion Enhances the Inhibitory Activity of the Essential Oil on P2X7R and Inflammatory Response In Vivo.

P2X7R is a purinergic receptor with broad expression throughout the body, especially in immune system cells. P2X7R activation causes inflammatory mediators to release, including interleukin-1β (IL-1β), the processing and release of which are critically dependent on this ion channel activation. P2X7R's therapeutic potential augments the discovery of new antagonistic compounds. Thus, we investigated whether the Eugenia sulcata essential oil could block P2X7R activity. The essential oil (ESO) dose-dependently inhibited ATP-promoted PI uptake and IL-1β release with an IC50 of 113.3 ± 3.7 ng/mL and

Description of an Australian endemic species of Trioza (Hemiptera: Triozidae) pest of the endemic tea tree, Melaleuca alternifolia (Myrtaceae).

Psyllids, also known as jumping plant lice, are phloem feeding Hemiptera that often show a strict species-specific relationship with their host plants. When psyllid-plant associations involve economically important crops, this may lead to the recognition of a psyllid species as an agricultural or horticultural pest. The Australian endemic tea tree, Melaleuca alternifolia (Maiden & Betche) Cheel., has been used for more than a century to extract essential oils and, long before that, as a traditional medicine by Indigenous Australian people. Recently, a triozid species has been found to damage t

Impact of Plant Pre-Processing on the Chemical Profile of Psidium guajava L. (Myrtaceae) Essential Oil and Evaluation of Its Bioactive Potential.

The chemical composition and bioactivity of essential oils depend not only on agronomic and environmental factors but also on the pre-processing of the plant material, a step that is rarely evaluated. Leaf essential oils of Psidium guajava L. were obtained by hydrodistillation from fresh or previously frozen leaves fragmented manually or mechanically, and assessed for GC-MS composition, cytotoxicity and biological activities. Fresh leaves ground in a mixer (EOFH-M) gave a sesquiterpene-rich profile dominated by β-caryophyllene and α-humulene, along with the best cell-viability profile in L929
