Myrtus communis essential oil mitigates bisphenol A-induced reproductive and lipidomic alterations in a male rat model.

Bisphenol A (BPA), a widespread endocrine disruptor, induces male reproductive toxicity by impairing spermatogenesis and altering hormonal homeostasis. This study investigated the protective effects of Myrtus communis essential oil (EOMC) or vitamin E (Vit E) in adult male rats exposed to BPA (100 mg/kg/day). BPA administration led to testicular damage, decreased sperm quality, hormonal imbalance, oxidative stress, and changes in lipid metabolism. Vit E preserved seminiferous tubule structure and reduced the presence of immature germ cells, though partial disruption of spermatogenesis persiste

The effect of Myrtus communis L. ethanol extract on the small intestine and lungs in experimental thermal burn injury.

Thermal trauma can damage organs away from the skin burn site and lead to multiple organ dysfunction. Following thermal injury, all tissues are exposed to ischemia, and as a result, resuscitation and reperfusion occur during the burning shock. Burn damage starts systemic inflammatory reactions that produce toxins and reactive oxygen radicals that lead to peroxidation. This study aimed to investigate, for the first time, the possible antioxidant effects of Myrtus communis ethanol extract on burn-induced oxidative distant organ injury orally. The thermal trauma was generated under ether anesthes

Protective and Detoxifying Effects of Myrtus communis Essential Oil Against Bisphenol A-Induced Metabolic Disturbances in Wistar Rats.

Bisphenol A (BPA) is an endocrine disruptor widely used in industrial and consumer products. Its release into the environment raises major health concerns, particularly regarding metabolic disorders. After exposure, BPA leads to the accumulation of free BPA and its main metabolites, including bisphenol A-glucuronide (BPA-G), bisphenol A-disulfate (BPA-DS), and its chlorinated derivative, chlorinated bisphenol A-diglucuronide (BPA-DC). This study is aimed at evaluating the detoxifying effect of essential oil of Myrtus communis (EOMC) at 50, 100, and 200 mg/kg, and vitamin E (100 mg/kg), in male

In vitro and in vivo copper-treated Myrtus communis L.: terpene profiles and evidence for potential cultivation on metal-contaminated soils.

The intensive application of agro-chemicals, and in particular of copper (Cu)-based compounds, causes increasing pollution of agricultural land, with serious risks for human health. Aromatic plants used for purposes other than food, can be considered for the exploitation and/or remediation of metal-polluted substrates, since contamination of the essential oils by these metals was not significant. Myrtle (Myrtus communis L.) is a Mediterranean evergreen shrub whose essential oil has many commercial applications. In this work, the effect of an excess of Cu in respect to control conditions was as
