Anti-inflammatory and immunomodulatory effects of paeonia lactiflora pall., a traditional chinese herbal medicine.

In China, Korea, and Japan, a decoction of the dried root without bark of Paeonia lactiflora Pall. has been used in the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis, systemic lupus erythematosus, hepatitis, dysmenorrhea, muscle cramping and spasms, and fever for more than 1200 years. A water/ethanol extract of the root is now known as total glucosides of peony (TGP), which contains more than 15 components. Paeoniflorin is the most abundant ingredient and accounts for the pharmacological effects observed with TGP in both in vitro and in vivo studies. The analgesic effect of TGP was confirmed in various an

Contrasting Responses of Rhizosphere Bacterial and Fungal Communities of Paeonia ludlowii to Habitat Transition.

Habitat transition can reorganize plant-associated microbial communities, yet whether rhizosphere bacteria and fungi respond similarly to the transition from native to introduced habitats remains unclear. Here, we investigated this question in the endangered plant Paeonia ludlowii by comparing rhizosphere bacterial and fungal communities across three native and two introduced sites in Xizang. Both bacterial and fungal communities showed significant site-associated differentiation and strongly concordant spatial patterns. However, their responses differed markedly: bacterial richness remained r

Free polyphenols and multi-omics traits underlying antioxidant variation across Paeonia lactiflora leaf cultivars.

Leaves of Paeonia lactiflora are underutilized by-products with potential as natural antioxidant sources. In this study, 18 cultivars were evaluated for phytochemical composition and in vitro antioxidant capacity. Total phenolic content correlated strongly with DPPH and ABTS activities, and the comprehensive antioxidant index identified 'Coral Charm' and 'Hangshao' as representative high- and low-antioxidant cultivars, respectively. Untargeted metabolomics detected 2677 metabolites and identified 908 differential metabolites between the two cultivars. Targeted phenolic profiling quantified 27

An Integrative morphology-hormone-transcriptome analysis of uniconazole induced internode shortening in Paeonia lactiflora.

Plant height represents a critical ornamental trait in Paeonia lactiflora. While uniconazole has been demonstrated to effectively modulate plant height in this species-enhancing its ornamental value and supporting commercial production-the molecular mechanisms responsible for uniconazole-induced dwarfism remain largely elusive. In this study, we employed an integrated approach combining morphological, physiological, cytological, and molecular analyses to elucidate the dwarfing mechanism in P. lactiflora 'Dafugui'. Our results indicate that uniconazole treatment significantly suppressed interno

Suffruticosol B from Paeonia lactiflora Ameliorates Alzheimer's Disease Pathology by Inhibiting MAO-B Activity.

Monoamine oxidase B (MAO-B) has emerged as a therapeutic target for Alzheimer's disease (AD) due to its involvement in the synthesis of γ-aminobutyric acid (GABA) in reactive astrocytes, which inhibits neuronal activity. Suffruticosol B (Suf-B), isolated from Paeonia lactiflora, is one of the resveratrol oligomers. Although resveratrol oligomers have demonstrated neuroprotective effects, it remains unexplored whether Suf-B exerts therapeutic effects on AD by targeting MAO-B. In this study, we investigated whether Suf-B alleviates AD pathology by mitigating reactive astrogliosis and inhibiting

Paeoniflorin of Paeonia lactiflora prevents renal interstitial fibrosis induced by unilateral ureteral obstruction in mice.

Paeoniflorin (PF), the major active constituent of Paeonia lactiflora Pallas, has previously been reported to alleviate hepatic fibrosis. Whether and how it affects renal fibrosis was evaluated in the present study. The experimental renal fibrosis was induced by unilateral ureteral obstruction (UUO) operation in mice, and PF was orally administered for consecutive 7 days. Renal interstitial destruction and fibrosis degree were evaluated by histopathological examination and hydroxyproline assay. It was shown that PF treatment markedly ameliorated renal interstitial fibrotic lesions, attenuated
