OBJECTIVES: To study the potential of commonly used aminoglycoside antibiotics to form non-creatinine chromogen with alkaline picrate reagent.
DESIGN AND METHODS: We studied the non-creatinine chromogen formation of various concentrations of streptomycin, amikacin, kanamycin, netilmicin, gentamicin and tobramycin added to known creatinine concentrations by the Jaffe reaction based creatinine estimation.
RESULTS: Only streptomycin above therapeutic concentrations of 10mg/mL interfered in the Jaffe reaction and acted as non-creatinine chromogen.

The crystal structure of the title compound, [Cd(C(29)H(29)N(5))(2)](C(6)H(2)N(3)O(7))(2), consists of Cd(II) complex cations and picrate anions. In the complex cation, the Cd(II) ion is chelated by two bis-(1-allyl-benzimidazol-2-ylmeth-yl)benzyl-amine (babb) ligands in a distorted octa-hedral geometry. Extensive C-H⋯O hydrogen bonding occurs between cations and anions in the crystal structure.

In the structure of the title compound, [Cd(H(2)O)(6)](C(6)H(2)N(3)O(7))(2)·H(2)O, the Cd(II) ion is located on an inversion center and is coordinated by six water mol-ecules in an octa-hedral geometry. The picrate anions have no coordination inter-actions with the Cd(II) ion. The three nitro groups are twisted away from the attached benzene ring, making dihedral angles of 17.89 (3), 27.94 (4) and 13.65 (3)°. There are numerous O-H⋯O hydrogen bonds in the crystal structure, involving coordinated and uncoordinated water molecules.

A method for quantitative determination of cyanogenic glycosides in human urine is described. It is based on enzymatic cleavage of the glycosides, microdiffusion of the hydrogen cyanide formed, solid state detection by colour formation on a picrate-impregnated sheet, and subsequent rating of the coloured spot by the absorption of transmitted light at 540 nm with a thin-layer (TLC) densitometer. For pharmacologic screening to identify hyperaldosteronism in patients after renal transplantation, spironolactone (Soludactone, Searle) was administered intravenously in 12 subjects (mean dose 1.2 g in the course of 3 days). Effects of various neuropharmacological agents on the motility of Dipylidium caninum was studied. 5-HT stimulated the motility of D. caninum, while other drugs such as GABA, adrenaline, phenylephrine, isoproterenol, dibenamine, and propranolol showed little effect. PURPOSE: To study the monogeneans gill parasites of Heterobranchus bidorsalis (Siluriformes, Clariidae) fish of economic interest in the Bagoue River.

INTRODUCTION: A survey of monogenean parasites on the gills of Synodontis clarias was carried out in Ivory Coast. Five species of monogeneans were found, of which four are new to science and are newly described here.
METHODS: The monogeneans were individually isolated from the gill and transferred directly onto a slide in a drop of glycerin ammonium picrate mixture (GAP).
