Vitiligo: advances in pathophysiology research and treatment development.

The autoimmune condition vitiligo, characterized by skin depigmentation, presents challenges for effective treatment design, with Janus kinase (JAK) inhibitors and other repurposed drugs offering a promising strategy for symptom management. This review explores advantages and shortcomings of current therapies, while presenting the urgent need for further innovative approaches. We emphasize the growing understanding of autoimmune involvement in vitiligo, highlighting several novel treatment avenues including relieving melanocyte stress, preventing dendritic cell activation, halting T cell migra

Role-playing interventions in adult psychotherapy: a systematic review of clinical applications, reported outcomes, and future directions.

BACKGROUND: Role-playing has been employed across diverse psychotherapeutic traditions, yet no comprehensive synthesis has examined contemporary applications with adult populations and analyzed which theoretical orientations have reported beneficial or positive outcomes and under what implementation modalities. OBJECTIVE: This systematic review with narrative synthesis aimed to summarize empirical evidence (2015-2025) on the use of role-playing in adult psychotherapy, examining implementation patterns (clinical populations, design and duration, descriptions of role-playing procedures), therap

Impact of theatre interventions on mental health: a systematic literature review and meta-analysis.

BACKGROUND: Theatre interventions such as psychodrama are increasingly being used to help individuals with mental health conditions. Previous findings provided mixed results on the impact of theatre interventions for reducing psychological symptoms. Given the growing use of theatre interventions, it is important to investigate their impact on specific mental health conditions. This systematic review and meta-analysis aims to examine the impact of theatre interventions on mental health outcomes and suicidality. METHODS: The review was prospectively registered on The International Prospective R

The (dramatic) process of psychotherapy.

Psychotherapy can be conceived as a symbolic drama in which patients can experientially realize their capacity to change. Methods derived from hypnosis can empower therapy without the use of formal trance. A case conducted by Milton Erickson is presented and deconstructed in order to illuminate Erickson's therapeutic patterns. A model is offered for adding drama to therapy, and the model is placed into a larger model of choice points in psychotherapy.

Recovery through performance: A virtual drama therapy program for clubhouse members with serious mental illness.

Despite advancements in psychiatry, individuals with serious mental illness (SMI), such as schizophrenia, major depressive disorder, and bipolar disorder, experience long-term and severe impairment in their social and occupational functioning, low rates of recovery, and mortality rates significantly higher than the general population. Current therapeutic and pharmacological treatments are vital but limited in their efficacy, highlighting a need for adjunctive recovery-oriented approaches, such as arts-based interventions. However, the impact of drama therapy on mental health recovery for indiv

[Etiology and treatment of glossodynias].

This study only concerns classical glossodynia with few symptoms and not related to general, tumoral or local syndromes. Lingual pain is caused in the majority of cases by apraxic movements of the tongue. These movements, related to the anguish, can by a regressive process be related to the "searching" lingual movements of the child in psychological distress. The patient suffering from glossodynia (usually a woman) is enclosed in a viscious circle : anguish, apraxic movements, lingual pain, of which the beginning is often contemporary with a cancer in the area. Therapy should be addressed firs

Research on the extension of respiratory interaction modalities in virtual reality technology and innovative methods for healing anxiety disorders.

The timely alleviation and healing of anxiety is crucial for preventing anxiety disorders. This study explores innovative digital approaches for anxiety relief by integrating virtual reality (VR) and multimodal interaction theories and technologies with psychodrama therapy and breathing therapy from psychology. The research proposes an innovative method of breathing interaction based on olfactory interaction modalities and designs breathing interaction semantics aimed at anxiety healing through three types of breathing therapy. Using the Unreal Engine, VR gamified scenarios and interaction log

Does a Five-Day Drama Program Support Men in Prison to Develop Their Self-Confidence?

This paper evaluates an established five-day drama project, designed, and delivered by a professional company, aimed to support the development of self-confidence of seven men with a history of substance misuse in a category C prison. The project involved creation of a safe space, improvised role-play, development of communication skills, and exploration of substance misuse, culminating in a performance. Audience members included prison staff, governors, healthcare staff, and prisoners. A mixed method approach was used to evaluate the project. Participant's pre and post project self-confidence

[The Concept and Treatment of Kleptomania].

Research on kleptomania has lagged behind that of other mental disorders, and very few clinicians specialize in treating such patients. Futhermore, the descriptive outline of kleptomania in the DSM-5 is vague. In 2008, we started a registration system for patients suffering from habitual theft, which has recorded 1430 cases since its inauguration. In this report, we explain the concept of kleptomania and describe our clinical experience in the treatment of patients suffering from this mental disorder. The most frequent complication of kleptomania was found to be eating disorder (especially bul

On formulations to patients.

For the author, the psychoanalytic clinical fact can only be an arbitrary fragment detached from the totality of the situation, which alone specifies it and which comprises the different forms of formulations that are proposed to patients. Using the difference established by Freud between what is and what is not analysable as a starting point, he distinguishes between two radically different analytic situations. To illustrate, he extracts, from the same cure, a 'fact' constituted of two moments; one 'this side of analysability, the other at its limits. He calls 'homogeneous' the neurotic momen

"Dropping out" from an adolescent therapeutic group: a study of factors in the patients and their parents which may influence this process.

A significant proportion of all patients offered group therapy "drop out" before any help can be given to them. This process of attrition is likely to be even higher in adolescent groups. This paper considers factors, observable in the initial assessments of adolescents and their families, which might be associated with this process. Two styles of "drop out" were noticed; one appearing to be less destructive than the other to the patient and to the group. A highly significant association was observed between an assessor's feeling that either the adolescent or one of their parental figures had

Role-reversed systematic desensitization in the treatment of a writing phobia.

A role-reversal technique was employed to teach cognitive coping skills to a patient with a writing phobia. The patient presented desensitization scenes to the therapist and devised coping strategies for lessening anxiety. Treatment resulted in a reduction of anxiety and an increased ability to write in the presence of other people. A 10-mo. follow-up showed no relapse.

Depth-oriented group psychotherapy for moral injury with military veterans: relational psychoanalytic and psychodynamic theory, mechanisms of action, and clinical implications.

Some veterans are haunted by memories of action they have taken or betrayals they have experienced that violated deeply held moral beliefs; these experiences can lead to moral injury. We have developed a depth-oriented group psychotherapy for U.S. combat veterans, to address moral injury. Depth psychotherapy is an evidence-based form of psychoanalysis; the treatment we have developed is based on Relational psychoanalysis. The aim is for the group members to each develop an organized narrative about morally injurious events and their impact on their current lives to facilitate psychosocial reco
