In recent decades, multiple studies have examined the various manifestations of the hepatic blood supply using anatomical preparation and imaging procedures (angiography, CT). Based on these observations, several classifications have emerged to determine blood supply types and their incidence rates. Our aim is to present a rare variation of the arterial blood supply of the liver through an anatomical preparation. Postmortem native CT scans of the abdominal organs of the described cadaver were performed, followed by three-dimensional reconstruction. After imaging, the abdominal block was fixed

BACKGROUND: Recent progress toward the elucidation of benzylisoquinoline alkaloid (BIA) metabolism has focused on a small number of model plant species. Current understanding of BIA metabolism in plants such as opium poppy, which accumulates important pharmacological agents such as codeine and morphine, has relied on a combination of genomics and metabolomics to facilitate gene discovery. Metabolomics studies provide important insight into the primary biochemical networks underpinning specialized metabolism, and serve as a key resource for metabolic engineering, gene discovery, and elucidation

Diterpenoid alkaloids (DAs) are pharmaceutically important metabolites and mainly occur in the Ranunculaceae. Despite their structural complexity, all DAs originate from C20 diterpenoid scaffolds, making the elucidation of C20-DA biosynthesis pivotal for understanding and engineering this entire alkaloid class. However, the molecular basis for DA core assembly has remained unresolved despite decades of research. Here, we define a minimal four-enzyme suite comprising three cytochrome P450 monooxygenases (CYP701A216, CYP71FH3, and CYP729G3) and one neo-functionalized short-chain dehydrogenase/re

Ceratocephalus falcatus (L.) Pers. (Ranunculaceae) is a wild plant. It grows abundantly in the Van province. The species of Ceratocephalus genus possess irritant properties from the presence of an innocuous glycoside, ranunculin. Here, we document 3 patients who were admitted to our clinic in different times from different districts with a common complaint of a large irritant contact dermatitis, resembling second-degree burn injury after application of a plant poultice. The plant specimens in all patients were identified as C. falcatus and it was assessed worthwhile to report.

Plant-seed parasite pollination mutualisms involve a specific pollinator whose larvae develop by consuming a fraction of the host plant seeds. These mutualisms are stable only if the plant can control seed destruction by the larvae. Here, we studied the chemical response of the European globeflower Trollius europaeus to infestation by an increasing number of Chiastocheta fly larvae. We used liquid chromatographic analysis to compare the content of phenolic compounds in unparasitized and parasitized fruits collected in two natural populations of the French Alps, and mass spectrometry and nuclea

The constituents of Cimicifuga plants have been extensively investigated, and the principal metabolites are 9, 19-cyclolanostane triterpenoid glycosides, which often exhibit extensive pharmacological activities. 9, 19-Cyclolanostane triterpenoid glycosides are distributed widely in genus Cimicifuga rather than in other members of the Ranunculaceae family. So far, more than 140 cycloartane triterpene glycosides have been isolated from Cimicifuga spp.. The aim of this review was to summarize all 9, 19-cyclolanostane triterpenoid glycosides based on the available relevant scientific literatures f

We have studied the effects of seasonal Solar Radiation Forcing (SRF) on the climate self-regulatory capability of life, using a latitudinal-dependent Daisyworld model. Because the seasonal polarity of SRF increases poleward, habitable conditions exist in the equatorial regions year round, whereas, in the high latitudes, harsh winters cause annual extinction of life, and only the summers are inhabited or regulated by life. Seasonality affects climate regulation by two major mechanisms: (1) the cold winter conditions in the high latitudes reduce the global temperature below the optimal temperat

Four new diterpenoid alkaloids, namely liaotungenses A-D, along with twenty known constituents, were isolated from the roots of Aconitum liaotungense Nakai (Ranunculaceae). Liaotungensines A and B are rare franchetine-type C19-diterpenoid alkaloids characterized by their unique dual hydroxylation pattern at C-13 and C-15. Liaotungense D is identified as the third documented example of 8,15-seco diterpenoid alkaloids in this structural class. Structural characterization was achieved through integrated spectroscopic analysis employing IR, HR-ESI-MS, and comprehensive 1D/2D NMR techniques. All is

Ranunculus L., the largest genus of Ranunculaceae, exhibits remarkable ecological diversity, yet genomic resources for this genus remain limited. Here we report the complete chloroplast (cp) genomes of Ranunculus arvensis L. and Ranunculus laetus Wall. ex Hook.f. & Thomson. The R. laetus assembly is the first cp genome reported for this species, whereas the R. arvensis assembly, generated from a Pakistani population, provides an independent accession that complements the recently released GenBank record PV621859 from China. Both genomes were analyzed comparatively against 22 previously publish

Morphinan-based painkillers are derived from opium poppy (Papaver somniferum L.). We report a draft of the opium poppy genome, with 2.72 gigabases assembled into 11 chromosomes with contig N50 and scaffold N50 of 1.77 and 204 megabases, respectively. Synteny analysis suggests a whole-genome duplication at ~7.8 million years ago and ancient segmental or whole-genome duplication(s) that occurred before the Papaveraceae-Ranunculaceae divergence 110 million years ago. Syntenic blocks representative of phthalideisoquinoline and morphinan components of a benzylisoquinoline alkaloid cluster of 15 gen

C19-diterpenoid alkaloids (DAs) constitute the most representative and largest class of DAs and have long been a popular focus of natural product research. In the past ten years (2015-2024), approximately 354 new C19-DAs have been reported, composing eight structural subtypes, among which aconitine-type DAs are the most common, followed by lycoctonine-type DAs. In addition, several rare substituents and novel skeletons have been reported, demonstrating the rich structural diversity of this class. C19-DAs are distributed only among Aconitum and Delphinium plants in the Ranunculaceae family, wit

Chinese goldthread (Coptis chinensis Franch.), a member of the Ranunculales, represents an important early-diverging eudicot lineage with diverse medicinal applications. Here, we present a high-quality chromosome-scale genome assembly and annotation of C. chinensis. Phylogenetic and comparative genomic analyses reveal the phylogenetic placement of this species and identify a single round of ancient whole-genome duplication (WGD) shared by the Ranunculaceae. We characterize genes involved in the biosynthesis of protoberberine-type alkaloids in C. chinensis. In particular, local genomic tandem d
