OBJECTIVE: The aim of this descriptive cohort study was to characterize stranger rape compared to other types of rape.
METHOD & MATERIALS: All cases of women aged 12 years or older, who contacted a Center for Victims of Sexual Assault in the region of Southern Denmark and underwent a forensic examination in 2018, were collected and analyzed. This literature review examines the issue of male rape and the possible counselling strategies that may assist in recovery. There are several misconceptions surrounding male rape which can result in the under-reporting and secondary or sanctuary victimisation of the survivor. Accounts from both offenders and victims of what occurs during a rape suggest that issues of power, anger, and sexuality are important in understanding the rapist's behavior. Oilseed rape (Brassica napus) is a commonly grown crop in Europe and it has been suggested that its pollen may be a potent new allergen. The prevalence of sensitization in a normal exposed population and an objective study of those patients found to be allergic to the rape pollen is described. The results show a low prevalence of allergy to oilseed rape pollen (less than 0.2%) unless the subjects were occupationally exposed. Those affected, with one exception, were already atopic and allergic to other pollens. The role of volatile materials given off by the plant remains to be elucidated.

A questionnaire examination was conducted of a sample of 168 well-educated women who suffered rape on average 13 years ago. A retrospective survey was made of acute and chronic symptoms. Physical symptoms were reported by 44% of the sample, mental symptoms by 98% and social symptoms by 79%. 11% have attempted suicide, and 19% report excessive use of alcohol and/or medicines. A survey was done of 249 female victims of alleged sexual offences (mostly rapes) examined at the Department of Forensic Medicine, University of Helsinki in 1978-1984. The judicial outcome of 150 cases of the same material examined in 1978-1981 (annual prevalence 7.8 in Helsinki) was related to the pattern of injuries and to the presence of spermatozoa. Psychiatric examination of the participants in repeated episodes of rape demonstrated that sexual assault combined with stealing represents symbolically an attack upon the bad mother, such hostile acting out enabling the individual to defend against strong, but ambivalent, wishes to be nurtured. Separation from home in each case was considered a crucial precipitant of such behavior. An intact condom, reputedly used during a rape, was submitted for forensic examination. Conventional biochemistry results indicated that blood found on one side of the condom may have originated from the victim. Semen from the other side of the condom was not characterizable by conventional biochemical methods. Pubic hairs recovered from the condom matched those of the victim and not those of the suspect. Testing the blood and semen from the condom by DNA analysis gave the profile of the victim from the blood and the profile of the suspect from the semen.
