Context dependent changes in the reinforcing strength of schedule-induced drinking.

Previous experiments show that the opportunity to engage in schedule-induced responding is reinforcing. In this experiment, the reinforcing strength of schedule-induced drinking was measured. Four rats were trained on a concurrent-chain schedule. The two terminal links provided food pellets on identical fixed-time schedules. In addition, one terminal link also provided the opportunity to press a button that operated a water dipper. In this link, the rats showed polydipsic drinking. Button-pressing rate for polydipsic drinking was a bitonic function of pellet rate, and it was possible to descri

Reinforcement schedules and extrapolations to humans from animals in behavioral pharmacology.

Behavior controlled by various schedules of reinforcement is useful for characterizing drugs as well as for analyzing the mechanisms of action of their effects on behavior. Conditioned avoidance techniques have been useful for studying neuroleptics and for predicting their clinical antipsychotic acitivity; the possible involvement of dopaminergic mechanisms in the effect of neurolpetics on avoidance behavior is discussed. Tricyclic antidepressant agents have been studied in assays involving interactions with other agents, such as cocaine, amphetamine and tetrabenazine. One type of operant beha

Behavioral and Emotional Responding During Instrumental Learning in Children With ADHD: Reinforcement Schedule Effects.

OBJECTIVE: Theoretical accounts of ADHD predict impaired learning under partial reinforcement and altered behavioral persistence under extinction. One of these theories (Amsel, 1992) postulates increased negative emotional responding (i.e., frustration) underlies these impairments, but to date emotional responding during instrumental learning has received limited attention. The current experimental study investigated behavioral and emotional responding during an instrumental learning task under different reinforcement schedules. METHODS: Eighty-four children with ADHD and 83 neurotypical chil

Effect of amphetamine on behavior maintained by sucrose: interaction of reinforcement schedule and food restriction.

A multiple schedule (Mult FR 10 VI 30") was employed to examine the interaction of reinforcement schedule and food restriction on amphetamine's effects on lever pressing behavior. High response rates were observed in fixed ratio (FR) 10 components. Significantly lower response rates were observed under the variable interval (VI) 30" schedule. In the nonrestricted feeding condition, significant decreases in high rate FR 10 responding occurred after administration of 1.0 mg/kg amphetamine while lower rates under the same schedule were increased by 0.30 and 1.0 mg/kg amphetamine. In contrast, VI

A comparison of the reinforcing strength of cocaethylene and cocaine in monkeys responding under progressive-ratio and concurrent choice schedules of reinforcement.

BACKGROUND: Individuals who use cocaine have high rates of co-morbid alcohol use and when ethanol and cocaine are administered concurrently, the metabolite cocaethylene is formed. Cocaethylene is equipotent to cocaine in blocking dopamine reuptake and substitutes for cocaine in drug discrimination studies. However, no previous work has directly compared the reinforcing strength of cocaine to cocaethylene. METHODS: In Experiment 1, three individually-housed adult male rhesus macaques self-administer cocaine under a progressive-ratio (PR) schedule of reinforcement, during daily 4-hr sessions. U

Application of Deep Reinforcement Learning Algorithm in Uncertain Logistics Transportation Scheduling.

Источник пометил публикацию как отозванную

Nowadays, finding the optimal route for vehicles through online vehicle path planning is one of the main problems that the logistics industry needs to solve. Due to the uncertainty of the transportation system, especially the last-mile delivery problem of small packages in uncertain logistics transportation, the calculation of logistics vehicle routing planning becomes more complex than before. Most of the existing solutions are less applied to new technologies such as machine learning, and most of them use a heuristic algorithm. This kind of solution not only needs to set a lot of constraints

Mirtazapine and ketanserin alter preference for gambling-like schedules of reinforcement in rats.

Drug and behavioral addictions have overlapping features, e.g., both manifest preference for larger, albeit costlier, reinforcement options in cost/benefit decision-making tasks. Our prior work revealed that the mixed-function serotonergic compound, mirtazapine, attenuates behaviors by rats motivated by abused drugs. To extend this work to behavioral addictions, here we determined if mirtazapine and/or ketanserin, another mixed-function serotonin-acting compound, can alter decision-making in rats that is independent of drug (or food)-motivated reward. Accordingly, we developed a novel variable

Effects of acute pramipexole on preference for gambling-like schedules of reinforcement in rats.

RATIONALE: Pramipexole and other direct dopamine agonist medications have been implicated in the development of impulsive behavior such as pathological gambling among those taking the drug to control symptoms of Parkinson's disease or restless leg syndrome. Few laboratory studies examining pramipexole's effects on gambling-like behavior have been conducted. OBJECTIVES: The present study used a rodent model approximating some aspects of human gambling to examine within-subject effects of acute pramipexole (0.03, 0.1, 0.18, and 0.3 mg/kg) on rat's choices to earn food reinforcement by completin

Concurrent schedules of positive and negative reinforcement: differential-impact and differential-outcomes hypotheses.

Considerable evidence from outside of operant psychology suggests that aversive events exert greater influence over behavior than equal-sized positive-reinforcement events. Operant theory is largely moot on this point, and most operant research is uninformative because of a scaling problem that prevents aversive events and those based on positive reinforcement from being directly compared. In the present investigation, humans' mouse-click responses were maintained on similarly structured, concurrent schedules of positive (money gain) and negative (avoidance of money loss) reinforcement. Behavioral effects of microwave reinforcement schedules and variations in microwave intensity on albino rats.

The objective of this exploratory investigation was to determine the interactive effects of fixed-ratio scheduling of microwave reinforcement in tandem with changes in microwave intensity. Nine albino rats were conditioned to regulate their thermal environment with microwave radiation while living in a Skinner (operant conditioning) Box in which the ambient temperature was about 27.13 degrees F at the beginning of the session. Each rat obtained a 6-sec. exposure of microwave radiation on a fixed-ratio schedule of MW reinforcement, the values of which varied from FR-1 to FR-30. Intensities of M

Clinical risk-aware reinforcement learning for latency-constrained healthcare IoT scheduling.

The rapid growth of the Healthcare Internet of Things (HIoT) has enabled continuous, real-time patient monitoring through wearable and bedside devices. These systems generate time-sensitive physiological data that are essential for the early detection of critical conditions such as arrhythmias and hypoxia. However, conventional cloud-centric architectures introduce significant end-to-end latency, which can compromise timely clinical response in safety-critical scenarios. Mobile Edge Computing (MEC) mitigates this limitation by bringing computation closer to data sources; yet, existing scheduli

Reinforcing efficacy of interactions with preferred and nonpreferred staff under progressive-ratio schedules.

Research has not systematically assessed and validated preferences for staff in adults with developmental disabilities. Three adults with developmental disabilities (aged 32 to 43 years) identified preferred and nonpreferred staff using verbal and pictorial preference assessments. During break-point analyses with progressive-ratio schedules, all 3 had higher break points when working for positive social interaction with their preferred staff mamber than with their nonpreferred staff member.

An evaluation of antecedent exercise on behavior maintained by automatic reinforcement using a three-component multiple schedule.

We evaluated antecedent exercise for treating the automatically reinforced problem behavior of 4 individuals with autism. We conducted preference assessments to identify leisure and exercise items that were associated with high levels of engagement and low levels of problem behavior. Next, we conducted three 3-component multiple-schedule sequences: an antecedent-exercise test sequence, a noncontingent leisure-item control sequence, and a social-interaction control sequence. Within each sequence, we used a 3-component multiple schedule to evaluate preintervention, intervention, and postinterven

Neuropsychopharmacology of drug seeking: Insights from studies with second-order schedules of drug reinforcement.

Second-order schedules of reinforcement model complex chains of responding for rewards such as food or drugs. Derived from studies of conditioned reinforcement, an important feature of these schedules is that responding is maintained by the response-dependent presentation of conditioned stimuli. They are thus well-suited to the study of the influences over drug seeking exerted by drug-associated stimuli. In the present review, we summarise studies investigating the neurobiology and neuropsychopharmacology of responding for cocaine under a second-order schedule of reinforcement. We conclude tha

The effect of excitotoxic lesions of the pedunculopontine tegmental nucleus on performance of a progressive ratio schedule of reinforcement.

The pedunculopontine tegmental nucleus has connections with sites in both dorsal and ventral striatum, and a number of studies have suggested that it has a role in reward-related behaviour. The present experiment aimed to investigate the perception of reward in pedunculopontine tegmental nucleus-lesioned rats responding for food under a progressive ratio schedule, which measures willingness to work for a given reward. Rats were trained on a progressive ratio-5 schedule for food reward, then given ibotenic acid or sham lesions of the pedunculopontine tegmental nucleus. Their performance under t

Effects of Curing Schedules on Carbon-Fiber-Reinforced Laminates with a Bio-Based Epoxy Matrix.

Carbon-fiber-reinforced polymer (CFRP) composites fabricated with bio-based epoxy resins represent a promising approach for sustainable lightweight structures produced by out-of-autoclave (OoA) technologies. The curing schedule influences the state of the epoxy matrix and, consequently, can affect the fiber-matrix interaction and laminate performance. This study investigates the effect of practical curing conditions on 2 × 2 twill woven carbon fiber laminates fabricated by vacuum infusion using a commercially available bio-based epoxy resin IB2. The manufacturer's recommended room-temperature

Dynamic Scheduling and Resource Optimization Algorithm for Union Activities by Integrating Transformer and Reinforcement Learning.

To address the problem of reduced organizational efficiency caused by frequent resource allocation conflicts and delayed scheduling responses in managing trade union activities, this paper proposes a dynamic scheduling algorithm that integrates Transformer and PPO (Proximal Policy Optimization). In the specific implementation, a unified scheduling scenario modeling structure is first designed to convert activity, personnel, and resource states into tensor inputs, thereby achieving multidimensional constraint integration. Next, the Transformer multi-head attention mechanism is used to encode th

Interaction of reinforcement schedules, a behavioral prosthesis, and work-related behavior in adults with mental retardation.

The effects of variable-interval (VI) and fixed-ratio (FR) schedules of reinforcement for work-related behavior and an organizer for the work materials (behavioral prosthesis) were evaluated with 3 adults with severe or profound mental retardation. The participants had been recommended for study because of high rates of off-task and aberrant behavior in their daily vocational training programs. For 2 participants, VI and FR schedules resulted in the same outcome: more aberrant behavior than on-task and off-task behavior combined. The FR schedule nearly eliminated emission of aberrant and off-t

Acute marijuana effects on response-reinforcer relations under multiple variable-interval schedules.

Acute marijuana administration may alter response-reinforcer relationships via a change in reinforcer efficacy, but may also impair coordination and motor function. One approach to evaluating drug effects on both motor function and reinforcer efficacy involves fitting the matching law equation to data obtained under multiple variable interval (VI) schedules. The present report describes an experiment that examined the effects of acute marijuana on response properties using this approach. Six human subjects responded under a multiple VI schedule for monetary reinforcers after smoking placebo an
