Changes in research competency of public health personnel following an empowerment-based capacity development program in Thailand: a convergent parallel mixed-methods study.

INTRODUCTION: Research competency among frontline public health personnel is a prerequisite for evidence-informed local health systems, yet most capacity-building programs in low- and middle-income settings are short didactic courses that are rarely evaluated with both outcome and process data. This study examined changes in self-reported research competency among public health personnel who completed an Empowerment-Based Capacity Development Program designed to convert routine public health work into publishable research, and explored how participants themselves accounted for those changes. Comment on 'Posttraumatic stress disorder and depression after the 2018 Strasbourg Christmas Market terrorist attack: a comparison of exposed and non-exposed police personnel': moving towards shared methodology in terrorism-research.

In the recent article 'Post-traumatic stress disorder and depression following the 2018 Strasbourg Christmas Market terrorist attack: a comparison of exposed and non-exposed police personnel,' important insights are provided about the association between terrorism exposure and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). However, in our opinion, there are several methodological issues that limit the results of this study. In this letter, we discuss the problematic use of partial PTSD, the adjustment of the PCL-5 to refer only to a specific terrorist attack, and the significance of criterion A.

Streamlining research by using existing tools.

Over the past two decades, the health research enterprise has matured rapidly, and many recognize an urgent need to translate pertinent research results into practice, to help improve the quality, accessibility, and affordability of US healthcare. Streamlining research operations would speed translation, particularly for multisite collaborations. However, the culture of research discourages reusing or adapting existing resources or study materials. Too often, researchers start studies and multisite collaborations from scratch-reinventing the wheel. Our team developed a compendium of resources

Filling the Network Gap in Research Ethics: Analyzing Ethical Issues at Scale in Big Team Science.

Scientific research increasingly involves large, multidisciplinary teams networked across multiple institutions to develop new technologies. Despite the rise of complex research networks and big team science, there has been too little analysis to date of the ethical challenges facing these networks. The extensive literature on the ethical issues confronting individual researchers and small teams (the microlevel) and on the larger societal challenges flowing from research and new technology (the macrolevel) leaves a troubling gap in between, at the mesolevel of the research network involved in

Fostering the Next Generation of Researchers: a Sustainable Mentoring Program for Early Career Toxicologists in Scientific Abstract Review.

The presentation of abstracts at scientific meetings is an important step in the dissemination of scientific discovery. Most scientific meetings recruit volunteer experts to evaluate and score submitted abstracts to determine which ones qualify for presentation. Reviewing an abstract is an important service to one's specialty, but there is typically no formal training or required instruction during medical toxicology fellowship on scientific abstract scoring. In order to provide structured training in abstract review, the American College of Medical Toxicology (ACMT) Research Committee launche

Introduction : With the growing expansion of participatory approaches in health, an increasing number of training initiatives have been developed to support these practices (Tourette-Turgis et al., 2019). However, these initiatives remain heterogeneous in their formats, objectives, and target audiences, reflecting a lack of consensus on what constitutes participatory approaches in practice (Paulo et al., 2023). Purpose of the research : This study aims to explore French-speaking training programs that foster collaboration among researchers, health professionals, and citizens.

Without more theory, psychology will be a headless rider.

We argue that Yarkoni's proposed solutions to the generalizability crisis are half-measures because he does not recognize that the crisis arises from investigators' underappreciation of the roles of theory in experimental research. Rather than embracing qualitative analysis, the research community should make an effort to develop better theories and work toward consistently incorporating theoretical results into experimental practice.

A Need for Societal Involvement in Promoting a Culture of Care in Animal Research.

Evidence shows that people doing biomedical research with non-human animals suffer psychological consequences. A culture of care in animal research demands ensuring the well-being of personnel and research animals, and proposals for ethical oversight, social support, and external interventions to address the psychological burden on personnel are growing. With biomedical research being a public good, and the people involved doing so to advance scientific knowledge for societal health benefits, society bears some responsibility for animal research and could be involved in ways that promote the w

The role of pharmacy personnel in promoting adherence to antiretroviral therapy in the Eastern Cape: communication barriers and breakthroughs.

Background: Many people living with HIV struggle to adhere to their antiretroviral therapy, leading to suboptimal health outcomes and increased costs to the healthcare system. Due to their unique training and position in the health care system, South African pharmacists and pharmacy support personnel have the potential to improve adherence through effective patient counselling. However, they are often underutilised and face multiple barriers to providing these services. The aim of this study was to examine how pharmacists and pharmacy personnel view their impact upon the medication adherence b

Tuberculosis and the Research Workforce Renewal Crisis in Brazil: How Can We Prevent a Future Without New Researchers?

Tuberculosis (TB) is among the oldest and deadliest infectious diseases, particularly when associated with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and antimicrobial resistance. Despite the progress in prevention, diagnosis, and treatment, global elimination remains elusive and is driven largely by socioeconomic inequalities and systemic challenges. Although scientific research is a cornerstone of the WHO End TB Strategy, it has been chronically underfunded and undervalued in Brazil's health agenda. One critical consequence is the weakening of pipelines for future TB research. Funding shortages, lac

Test evaluation trials present different challenges for trial managers compared to intervention trials.

INTRODUCTION: Test evaluation trials present different challenges for trial managers compared to intervention trials. There has been very little research on the management of test evaluation trials and how this impacts on trial success, in comparison with intervention trials. Evaluations of medical tests present specific challenges, because they are a pivot point bridging the complexities of pathways prompting testing with treatment decision-making. We systematically explored key differences in the trial design and management of test evaluation trials compared to intervention trials at the dif

Inclusion of Non-English-Speaking Participants in Pediatric Health Research: A Review.

IMPORTANCE: The inclusion of non-English-speaking (NES) participants in pediatric research is an essential step to improving health equity for these populations. Although some studies have shown lack of progress in NES research participation in the past decade, few have examined NES inclusivity in pediatric research or details about the practices that researchers have used to communicate with NES participants. OBJECTIVE: To assess how frequently NES families were included in pediatric research, how rates of inclusion changed over time, what languages were included, and methodological details
