The extent of support for ordinary living provided in staffed housing: the relationship between staffing levels, resident characteristics, staff: resident interactions and resident activity patterns.

Staffed housing has become an accepted alternative to institutional residential services for people with learning disabilities on the expectation that such provision will promote 'ordinary' patterns of living. Information on staffing levels and the behavioural characteristics of residents together with direct observational data on staff: resident interactions and resident engagement in activity were collected on 15 housing services in South Wales and analysed to explore the interrelationship between these key input and outcome variables. Staffing levels were found to be related to resident cha

Identifying Biopsychosocial Characteristics of Emergency Youth Shelter Residents With Psychiatric Diagnoses.

Background In the United States, homelessness is an issue that may affect a significant portion of the adolescent population. There is no consensus on the extent to which this population has been impacted by poor mental health and lack of resources. This study aimed to characterize trends among those who struggle with housing insecurity and mental illness to provide a clearer picture of mental health needs among this population. Methods Data from 641 adolescents who presented to a local adolescent homeless shelter between 2015 and 2021 were utilized to determine if there were significant assoc

Characteristics of nursing home residents and physical restraint: a systematic literature review.

AIMS AND OBJECTIVES: To analyse and to summarise factors associated with nursing home residents' characteristics which could lead to physical restraint, and to investigate the consequences of physical restraint use for this population. BACKGROUND: Even though the application of physical restraint is highly controversial, prevalence rates show that it is a common intervention in nursing homes. Residents' characteristics seem to be important to predict the use of physical restraint. Evidence suggests that restrained nursing home residents may have physical and psychological disadvantages as a c

[Characteristics of humoral immunity to rubella virus in residents of Moscow in 1998-1999].

A total of 400 blood samples were collected from residents of Moscow in 1998-1999, 369 from adults aged mainly 19-31 years and from children aged 5-12 years. The mean incidence of antirubella antibody was 76.5%; the value varied in different age groups. The highest percentage of antibody detection was observed in men aged 19-25 years (91.8%) and the lowest in pregnant women aged 18-38 years (66-67%). Estimation of antihemagglutinin titers in international Units showed that antibody titer 1:40 and higher protected from infection; such titers were detected in 73.6% examinees. In pregnant women t

Tissue-resident immune cells: from defining characteristics to roles in diseases.

Tissue-resident immune cells (TRICs) are a highly heterogeneous and plastic subpopulation of immune cells that reside in lymphoid or peripheral tissues without recirculation. These cells are endowed with notably distinct capabilities, setting them apart from their circulating leukocyte counterparts. Many studies demonstrate their complex roles in both health and disease, involving the regulation of homeostasis, protection, and destruction. The advancement of tissue-resolution technologies, such as single-cell sequencing and spatiotemporal omics, provides deeper insights into the cell morpholog

Nursing home residents attending the emergency department: clinical characteristics and outcomes.

Nursing home (NH) residents represent the frailest group of older people, and providing gerontologically attuned care that addresses these frailties is often a challenge within the emergency department (ED). This study sought to prospectively profile acutely unwell NH residents in order to clarify some of the challenges of providing emergency care to this group. Over an 18-week period, we prospectively reviewed all NH residents presenting to the ED of an urban university teaching hospital. Relevant data were retrieved by direct physician review (as part of a comprehensive geriatric assessment

Resident behaviors and characteristics as determinants of quality of residential care: an observational study.

The effects of resident behaviors and resident characteristics on the quantity and quality of care they receive from direct-care staff was examined. Four hundred and fifty-two residents with severe and profound mental retardation and 416 direct care staff members were involved. Naturalistic observations were conducted on direct-care staff behavior, that is, staff-resident initiatives, staff affection, staff communicative behavior, on resident behaviors (i.e., maladaptive, stereotypic, and adaptive behavior, position, attending, and communicative behavior), and on resident characteristics (i.e.

Socio-economic indicators, housing characteristics, site of residence, and substance use as household-level risk factors in GRT-INSPIRED communities.

INTRODUCTION: Substance use remains a major public health concern in South Africa and disproportionately affects urban communities experiencing socio-economic disadvantage, poor housing conditions, and spatial inequality. While existing research has largely focused on individual-level substance use, less is known about how household socio-economic characteristics, housing conditions, and place of residence shape household-level substance use in urban settings. This study examined the associations between socio-economic indicators, housing characteristics, site of residence, and household subst

Schizophrenic disorder in old age. II. Some differences in demographic, social and clinical characteristics in terms of place of permanent residence.

The author examined 129 cases who were at the time of the investigation 65 years of age and older and who, during their life-time, had been diagnosed as having a schizophrenic disorder. Using a modified P-86 questionnaire and SCAG scale, heteroanamnestic data, and data available from medical histories, the demographic, social, and clinical characteristics of this population were gathered. Differences were defined in terms of the examinees' place of permanent residence (at home, in hospital, in a retirement home). Among other things, the author shows that the type of the permanent residence cor

Placental intervillous blood harbors NK cells with distinct tissue-resident characteristics.

The placental intervillous space is a unique immunological niche where circulating maternal immune cells come into direct contact with the fetal syncytiotrophoblast. While adaptations in immune cell composition are known to occur in the maternal decidua throughout pregnancy, it remains unclear whether similar changes take place in the intervillous space. Here, we demonstrate that the intervillous immune cell composition undergoes dynamic changes during pregnancy, with a decreased proportion of NK cells and an increased proportion of T cells from second trimester to term pregnancy. Interestingl

Biomechanical characteristics of lumbar manipulation performed by expert, resident, and student physical therapists.

BACKGROUND: Lumbar manipulation is a commonly used treatment for low back pain, but little research evidence exists regarding practitioner biomechanics during manipulation. Most existing evidence describes rate of force production through the hands into instrumented manikins and it is unclear how the practitioner moves their body and legs to generate this force. OBJECTIVES: To identify and characterize important kinetic and kinematic factors in practitioners of varying experience performing lumbar manipulation in order to identify which factors distinguish experts from less experienced practi
