Interlayer Modification of a Layered Silicate RUB-18 with 4-Phosphonophenylsilane and Its Surface Acidic Functions.

The interlayer silylation of a layered silicate H-RUB-18 (Si4O7(OH)2) using a new aromatic silylating reagent containing a phosphonic acid group (4-phosphonophenylsilane: PPS) was demonstrated (H-PPS-RUB-18). The phosphonic acid groups were attached to the silicate layers through the reaction of H-RUB-18 with (4-diethoxyphosphorylphenyl)-triethoxysilane (p-PPS-E), and the ester moieties were subsequently hydrolyzed with hydrochloric acid. H-PPS-RUB-18 is a solid acid, as indicated by the intercalation of various alkylamines and the catalytic acetalization of ketones. A systematic increase in i

The Impact of Citric Acid Solution on Hydraulic Calcium Silicate-Based Sealers and Root Dentin: A Preliminary Assessment.

Hydraulic calcium silicate-based (HCS) sealers have recently gained tremendous popularity due to their unique properties. However, their removal during endodontic retreatment is challenging. The solvent, which could chemically deteriorate the material, would be highly desirable for endodontic retreatment procedures. This preliminary study assessed the interplay and dissolving capability of 10% and 20% citric acid, compared to 17% EDTA, on commonly used HCS sealers (AH Plus Bioceramic Sealer, Bio-C Sealer, BioRoot RCS, TotalFill BC Sealer), and evaluated the potential impact of these solutions

Calcium silicate sorbent from secondary waste ash: heavy metals-removal from acidic solutions.

The layer lattice, ion-exchange material, Al-substituted 11 A tobermorite, has been synthesised via an alkaline hydrothermal route from a secondary waste ash arising from newsprint recycling. The hydrogarnet, katoite (Ca3Al2SiO12H8), was also formed. Batch sorption analyses have confirmed that the Al-substituted 11 A tobermorite-bearing product is an effective sorbent for Co2+, Cd2+ and Zn2+ ions from acidified aqueous media. Kinetic sorption data were analysed in accordance with the pseudo-first- and pseudo-second-order models and steady state data were fitted to the Langmuir and Freundlich i

Effects of L-ascorbic acid as an additive for improving the physical properties and setting behavior of fabricated calcium silicate cement.

BACKGROUND/PURPOSE: Calcium silicate (CS) cement presents significant drawbacks, including prolonged setting time, handling difficulty, and susceptibility to washout during early setting stages. Given the molecular structure of l-ascorbic acid (AscA), we hypothesized that it could influence the setting characteristics of CS cement. AscA is an effective antioxidant and possesses wide therapeutic properties. This study investigated the effects of AscA addition on the properties of CS cement. MATERIALS AND METHODS: CS cement clinkers were synthesized and pulverized by jet milling. After characte

Synergized Effects of Amino Acids and NaCl to Enhance Silicate Mineral Dissolution in Aqueous Environments for Efficient Atmospheric CO2 Removal.

Enhanced weathering of silicate minerals is a promising approach for reducing atmospheric CO2 levels by increasing the aquatic pH and facilitating CO2 dissolution. However, the slow and unsustainable dissolution of silicate minerals in natural environments remains a challenge. This study proposed a new CO2 capture system that uses the combined effect of amino acids and NaCl to promote mineral dissolution, and its characteristics were investigated experimentally. The results showed that amino acids are promising for enhancing the near-congruent dissolution of silicate minerals, specifically at

Effects of phosphate, silicate, humic acid, and calcium on the release of As(V) co-precipitated with Fe(III) and Fe(II) during aging.

The effects of phosphate (P), silicate (Si), humic acid (HA), and calcium (Ca) on the release of As(V) co-precipitated with Fe(III) and Fe(II) during aging were investigated. As(V) in synthetic groundwater could be efficiently removed by both Fe(III) and Fe(II) processes. The addition of P remarkably decreased As(V) removal efficiency while no obvious release of As(V) during aging was observed. Si and HA reduced As(V) removal to a less extent than P but caused notable As(V) release during aging. FTIR spectra and particle size of the precipitates before and after aging indicated that As(V) rele

Vanadium Phosphorus Oxide/Siliceous Mesostructured Cellular Foams: efficient and selective for sustainable acrylic acid production via condensation route.

A new type of supported vanadium phosphorus oxide (VPO) with self-phase regulation was simply fabricated (organic solvent free) for the first time by depositing the specific VPO precursor NH4(VO2)HPO4 onto the Siliceous Mesostructured Cellular Foams (MCF) with controlled activation. The resulting materials were found to be highly efficient and selective for sustainable acrylic acid (AA) plus methyl acrylate (MA) production via a condensation route between acetic acid (HAc) and formaldehyde (HCHO). A (AA + MA) yield of 83.7% (HCHO input-based) or a (AA + MA) selectivity of 81.7% (converted HAc-

Evaluation of cyclonic ash, commercial Na-silicates, lime and phosphoric acid for metal immobilisation purposes in contaminated soils in Flanders (Belgium).

In order to reduce the health risks associated with historically enriched metal smelting sites in Flanders (Belgium), the capacities of a non-beringite cyclonic ash and commercial Na-silicates to fix metals and create conditions to restore vegetation cover were evaluated and compared to lime and H(3)PO(4). All tested amendments reduced Ca(NO(3))(2)-extractable soil metal concentrations and reduced metal uptake in Agrostis capillaris seedlings. Sodium released by Na-silicates was possibly toxic to bean plants while an isotopic dilution technique revealed that metals were only weakly sorbed by s

Modification of iron-containing silicate tailings with oxalic acid to develop a long-efficacy utilization peroxymonosulfate-based system for the efficient decomplexation and removal of Cr(III)-ethylenediamine tetraacetic acid.

Ferrous oxalate (FeC2O4)-based composite has been recognized as an eminent catalyst for Cr(III)-ethylenediamine tetraacetic acid (Cr(III)-EDTA) decomplexation. However, their practical application has been limited by low cycling capacity and an ambiguous mechanism. In this research, a composite catalyst consisting of biotite loaded with nano FeC2O4 (CFS90) was prepared directly from iron-containing silicate tailing. The removal efficiency (91.3 %, kobs = 0.0185 min-1) of Cr(III)-EDTA by CFS90/peroxymonosulfate (PMS) system was remarkably higher than that of other typical systems. The Si site i

Comparative Evaluation of Citric Acid, Chlorhexidine, and Their Combination as Root Canal Irrigants on the Push-Out Bond Strength of Resin and Calcium Silicate-Based Sealers to Root Canal Dentin.

BACKGROUND: Root canal irrigants can alter root canal dentin and influence sealer adhesion. With increasing use of bioceramic sealers, understanding the effects of irrigants on bonding is essential for endodontic success. This in vitro study evaluated the effects of 1% chlorhexidine (CHX), 10% citric acid (CA), and their combination (CACHX) on the push-out bond strength (POBS) of AH Plus and BioRoot RCS to root canal dentin. METHODS: Eighty single-rooted premolars with a single canal were selected and divided into eight groups (n = 10) based on the final irrigation protocol: CA, CHX, CACHX, o

Sustainable Room-Temperature Sol-Gel Synthesis of Mesoporous Silica Nanoparticles from Sodium Silicate Using Ascorbic Acid and Nonionic Surfactants for Amoxicillin Removal from Water.

Mesoporous silica nanoparticles (MSNs) are promising nanomaterials for many applications, including water remediation, owing to their high surface area, tunable mesoporosity, and modifiable silanol-rich surfaces. However, their conventional synthesis often relies on costly tetraethyl orthosilicate (TEOS), cationic surfactants, organic solvents, and energy-intensive hydrothermal processing. Herein, a facile sustainable room-temperature sol-gel route is reported using inexpensive sodium silicate as the silica source, L-ascorbic acid as a mild biodegradable acid catalyst, and a binary nonionic su

Human papillomavirus persistence or clearance after infection in reproductive age. What is the status? Review of the literature and new data of a vaginal gel containing silicate dioxide, citric acid, and selenite.

Cervical cancer, the third most common cancer in women, is caused in nearly all cases by a persistent infection with high-risk types of the human papillomavirus. Although human papillomavirus infections are 80%-90% transient and disappear spontaneously within 24 months, human papillomavirus infections that remain are at risk of developing cervical lesions. Different therapeutical approaches have been tested to promote the regression of low-grade lesions or prevent progression. They include the application of 5-fluorouracil, curcumin, imiquimod, interferons, Vitamin D, and others. Also, the eff
