Re-imagining poppers regulation in Canada: Perspectives from pharmacists, pharmacy students and public health practitioners.

Alkyl nitrites, commonly known as poppers, remain widely used in Canada despite regulatory prohibitions that restrict their sale as prescription-only substances. This incongruence between policy and practice has contributed to unregulated supply chains, product contamination, and missed opportunities for harm reduction - particularly among gay, bisexual, and other men who have sex with men, who use poppers at higher rates. This commentary examines the implications of reclassifying poppers as Schedule II drugs, permitting pharmacist-mediated, non-prescription access, drawing on perspectives fro

Professional Ethics Education and Moral Sensitivity in Public Health Students: A Pilot Quasi-Experimental Study.

BACKGROUND: Public health professionals frequently encounter complex ethical dilemmas, yet dedicated ethics courses are often absent from curricula. This pilot study aimed to explore potential associations between a structured professional ethics course and self-reported moral sensitivity in undergraduate public health students using a controlled but non-randomized design. Given the exploratory nature of this study, all findings should be interpreted as hypothesis-generating rather than conclusive. METHODS: A quasi-experimental, non-equivalent control group design was conducted with 53 underg

Declining medical student attendance: a single institution thematic analysis of reasons students do not attend a preclinical public health course.

Declining medical student attendance has been noted for decades, becoming particularly challenging in the years surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic. The reasons why medical students have not attended class in the years since the pandemic and the transition of USMLE Step 1 scores to Pass/Fail are not well established. This study evaluated why medical students did not attend a preclinical public health course. A secondary aim is to compare trends in self-reported attendance. Student course evaluations include self-reported attendance and free-text responses to 'Why did you choose not to attend liv
