Multimodality Cardiac Imaging and the Imaging Workforce in the United States: Diversity, Disparities, and Future Directions.

Innovations in cardiac imaging have fundamentally advanced the understanding and treatment of cardiovascular disease. These advances in noninvasive cardiac imaging have also expanded the role of the cardiac imager and dramatically increased the demand for imagers who are cross-trained in multiple modalities. However, we hypothesize that there is significant variation in the availability of cardiac imaging expertise and a disparity in the adoption of advanced imaging technologies across the United States. To evaluate this, we have brought together the leaders of cardiovascular imaging societies

The impact of organizational inclusion for a diverse workforce on organizational climate assessments and hospital recommendations among nurse practitioners.

BACKGROUND: While the nursing profession has advocated for workforce diversity, limited research has examined how institutional inclusion efforts are associated with the experiences of nurse practitioners (NPs), particularly in hospital settings. PURPOSE: To examine whether institutional inclusion efforts were associated with NPs' strong recommendation of their hospital and whether this relationship was explained by NPs' assessments of organizational climate. METHODS: This cross-sectional study analyzed 2023 data from 742 NPs across 412 U.S. hospitals, drawing on the Penn Nurses4All Survey,

Reconfiguring health workforce: a case-based comparative study explaining the increasingly diverse professional roles in Europe.

BACKGROUND: Over the past decade the healthcare workforce has diversified in several directions with formalised roles for health care assistants, specialised roles for nurses and technicians, advanced roles for physician associates and nurse practitioners and new professions for new services, such as case managers. Hence the composition of health care teams has become increasingly diverse. The exact extent of this diversity is unknown across the different countries of Europe, as are the drivers of this change. The research questions guiding this study were: What extended professional roles are

Understanding Diversity: An ASTCT-NMDP ACCESS Initiative Survey of the Hematopoietic Cell Transplant and Cellular Therapy Workforce in the United States.

The American Society for Transplantation and Cellular Therapy (ASTCT) and NMDP established the ACCESS Initiative to address barriers to hematopoietic cell transplantation (HCT) and cellular therapy (CT), with the Junior Faculty and Trainee Immersion Program (JFIP) supporting workforce development. To assess diversity within the US HCT/CT workforce, an electronic survey was disseminated to ASTCT members. Of 437 total respondents, 408 met the inclusion criteria. The respondents were predominantly female (72.1%) and 53.4% were between 36 and 55 years of age. Racial and ethnic composition was skew

Addressing Health Disparities: How Having a More Diverse Biomedical Workforce Can Contribute to Addressing Health Disparities in Communities that Are Often Underrepresented in the Healthcare System.

Health disparities that are seen in underserved and underrepresented communities are a pressing issue in healthcare. These disparities are embedded into our society through structural inequalities that lead to poorer health outcomes in those from minoritised communities. In its place as the heart of modern healthcare, the biomedical science workforce has the potential to play a crucial role in mitigating these disparities by fostering greater cultural competence, improving patient outcomes and driving innovative solutions. This study reviewed the current literature on the impact of diversity w

Diversity and inclusion at scientific conferences.

Scientific conferences are important because they elevate researchers, provide an opportunity to meet leaders and funders, and build new collaborations. Conferences are particularly important for people who are often marginalized within scientific research related to gender, sexual identity, national origin, lived experience, and race/ethnicity. Nevertheless, many researchers who inhabit these marginalized identities or who are from low-resource settings face barriers to meaningfully participate in such scientific activities. As individuals who represent vulnerable patient groups (e.g. people

Advancing global dementia research through equity and inclusion.

Despite the global burden of dementia, research remains dominated by high-income, Western populations, limiting the generalizability and equity of findings. In this Perspective, we highlight the importance of diversity and inclusion in dementia research, not only in study participants but also in the researchers, study design, and funding priorities. We describe how the lack of representation creates knowledge gaps and delays progress in prevention, diagnosis, and treatment. We also present examples of initiatives that are working to change this, including the Alzheimer's Disease Data Initiati

Bridging global diversity gaps in Parkinson disease research.

The global burden of Parkinson disease (PD) is rapidly shifting towards low-income and middle-income countries (LMICs), which already account for 44% of all individuals with PD. Despite this trend, the populations of LMICs and other under-represented populations defined by ethnicity, sex, geography and minority groups within high-income countries remain largely excluded from PD research. The continuation of these disparities limits our knowledge of disease biology and restricts the applicability of advances in prevention, diagnosis and treatment, increasing inequity in global health. The mosaic of science: Disciplinary diversity and scientific prestige in research groups in Colombia.

Collaboration among science teams is essential for addressing complex global challenges. A key feature of such collaboration is disciplinary diversity; however, its relationship with team performance remains debated. Existing research has focused primarily on high-income countries and has relied on proprietary databases, often overlooking the distinctive scientific ecosystems of middle- and low-income nations. This geographical and methodological bias has created a gap in understanding how team composition affects scientific outcomes in these underrepresented contexts. This study examines a te

Mapping Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Statements in Graduate Medical Education: Protocol for a Scoping Review Across Specialties.

BACKGROUND: Persistent disparities in diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) remain across US residency programs despite recent accreditation requirements. In this context, DEI disparities refer to inequities in the representation, recruitment, advancement, and educational experiences of individuals from underrepresented and marginalized groups. Numerous specialty-specific studies have evaluated DEI content on residency program websites, but these studies differ in their methodologies, assessed content, and reporting practices. There is currently no comprehensive synthesis of how DEI content i

Why Parity is Not the Goal: Increasing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Representation in Non-General Practice Specialties.

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander doctors remain under-represented in non-general practice specialties. Although parity is often used as a benchmark for workforce reform, targets alone cannot address the structural challenges that constrain entry, progression and retention. Specialist training systems must be redesigned through Indigenous leadership, shared authority, culturally safe workplaces, protected mentorship and recognition of cultural labour. Parity is not the goal; it is the consequence of systems that are equitable, accountable and grounded in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island

Unacknowledged Burdens and Clinical Assets of BIPOC Genetic Counseling Students: Qualitative Evidence to Inform Supervision.

As the genetic counseling profession works to diversify its predominantly white workforce, understanding the experiences of Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) students is central to equity efforts. While BIPOC students bring invaluable cultural and linguistic diversity that improves patient care, they often navigate clinical training environments that lack diversity and psychological safety. This article draws on data from a longitudinal constructivist qualitative study to examine how racial and ethnic concordance (or lack thereof) with patients and clinical supervisors influenced
