Creative and Adaptive Solutions for Early Diagnosis of Sickle Cell Disease in Sub-Saharan Africa.

Many of the children with sickle cell disease born in sub-Saharan Africa remain undiagnosed and untreated. Increasing capacity and infrastructure to support diagnostic and screening programs in high income countries have enabled near universal survival into adulthood. Early diagnosis and treatment are achievable goals that enjoy widespread consensus in sub-Saharan Africa but may require a variety of individualized approaches that are specific to each country. A clear understanding of the issues that influence program building is required before identifying solutions adapted to the diverse heal

From Creative Engagement to Illustrative Insights: Exploring the Role of Design Probes for Implementation Research.

BACKGROUND: To advance implementation of evidence-based interventions in healthcare, research teams need methods that center engagement, inclusivity, and creativity. We address this challenge by exploring design probes for implementation research. Design probes are packaged materials given to users that prompt them to asynchronously capture data about their context and experience, subsequently reflecting upon aspects of that data salient to the topic of study. This study had three objectives: (1) explore the potential utility of design probes in implementation research, (2) describe researcher

Semantic Accessibility Is Associated with Reduced Experience-Induced Heuristic Fixation in Creative Problem Solving.

Creative problem solving often fails because people rely on heuristic responses reinforced by prior experience. According to the default-interventionist account, analytic intervention can override these heuristic defaults only when the semantic system provides access to competing representations. We tested this prediction using a modified Chinese Remote Associates Task in which two factors were independently manipulated: semantic accessibility (high vs. low) and situational induction (strong vs. weak). A significant interaction emerged: strong induction impaired performance only under low sema

Perception meets practice: organisational views on creative arts therapy and arts in health in healthcare.

BACKGROUND: Creative Arts Therapy (CAT) and Arts in Health (AH) are increasingly recognised for their contributions to patient wellbeing, staff engagement, and the overall quality of care in healthcare settings. However, the integration of these practices depended heavily on how healthcare administrators understood their distinct purposes, professional boundaries, and potential impact. METHODS: This study investigated organisational perceptions of CAT and AH through a mixed-methods survey of 74 healthcare administrators working across clinical, community, and educational settings. A framework

Asymmetries in Gift-Exchange: The Role of Surprise When Wanting to Give/Receive Creative Gifts.

In the dynamic of gift-exchange, consumers play two important roles: givers and recipients. When they play both roles, the literature on gift-exchange has found asymmetries where what givers value is different from what gift recipients want. Across three experiments, we tested associations between the importance given to surprise and the desire for creative gifts and the generation of ideas for creative gifts. In experiment 1, participants were assigned to the role of the giver or recipient and rated how important it was for gifts to be original, effective (two dimensions of a creative gift),

Digital Creative Art Interventions on Health Promotion Among Older Adults: A Scoping Review.

BACKGROUND: Digital Creative Art Interventions (DCAIs) are innovative approaches to art interventions using digital technology, which can improve older adults' health. However, a comprehensive summary of the implementation of this intervention among older adults is lacking. AIMS: To summarise the deliveries and categories of DCAIs, review their feasibility and roles in older adults' healthcare, and explore the barriers and facilitators to implementing DCAIs in older adults. DESIGN: Scoping review. METHOD: This scoping review followed Arksey and O'Malley's framework, and PRISMA-ScR was used

Introducing the fusion innovation test as a new paradigm for studying realworld creative problem solving.

Studying creative problem-solving requires tasks with real-world relevance and minimal domain-specific knowledge. The widely used alternative uses test (AUT) meets these criteria but primarily measures divergent thinking-generating many ideas without immediate judgment. However, creative problem-solving also requires convergent thinking to narrow down options and select the most effective solution. We introduce the fusion innovation test (FIT), a task that integrates both divergent and convergent thinking. In the FIT, participants combine two randomly assigned elements (e.g., objects or techno

Developmental effects of digitally contextualized reading on preschooler's creative thinking: A quasi-experimental study.

It has been argued that preschool years are an important period for fostering creative thinking skills. Digital technologies are increasingly used in class activities to enhance creativity. However, few studies have experimentally explored how digital technologies can create multisensory reading activities to promote creative thinking in preschoolers. This study introduced digitally contextualized reading, which transforms picture-based reading into an emotionally immersive video reading experience. Unlike traditional methods, this approach emphasizes multisensory immersion and interactive eng

A creative approach to the diagnosis and treatment of low back pain: case report and review of the literature.

Chronic low back pain is a common complaint seen in the neurosurgical clinic that is often difficult to manage. A relatively new addition to the diagnostic armamentarium is single photon emission computed tomography-computed tomography (SPECT-CT). We present the case of a 76-year-old male who presented with long-standing right-sided low back pain that had progressed to the point of making him wheelchair-bound. SPECT-CT demonstrated increased uptake within an osteoblastic-appearing focus between the right L5 transverse process, sacral ala, and anterior sacroiliac joint. The patient underwent ri

Exploring the essence of a creative dance programme for older adults: Programme overview and research insights.

INTRODUCTION: Dance is recognised as a safe, effective, and enjoyable means to boost physical, mental, and cognitive health in older adults. Detailed content of dance programmes for this age group is sparsely described. AIMS: This study provides a comprehensive description and evaluation of a Creative Dance Programme for older adults. METHOD: The dance programme, described in detail in our study, was analysed with three quantitative (i.e., gait, balance and executive function tests) and one qualitative (i.e., interviews) pilot studies to gain insights into health effects of the programme. Dynamic amplitude of low-frequency fluctuation links dark personalities to malevolent creative behavior.

Malevolent creativity refers to the ability to generate ideas that cause harm to oneself or others. While previous research has touched on how personality traits influence malevolent creative behavior, the neural mechanisms involved remain underexplored. This study investigated the brain patterns associated with malevolent creative behavior and how these patterns are mediated by dark personality traits (Machiavellianism, narcissism, and psychopathy) and positive traits (internalization, symbolization, and honesty-humility). Our findings revealed that Machiavellianism mediated the relationship

Similarities and Distinctions between Cortical Neural Substrates That Underlie Generation of Malevolent Creative Ideas.

Creativity can be driven by negative intentions, and this is called malevolent creativity (MC). It is a type of creativity that serves antisocial purposes and deliberately leads to harmful or immoral results. A possible classification indicates that there are three kinds of MC in daily life: hurting people, lying, and playing tricks. This study aimed to explore similar and distinct neural substrates underlying these different kinds of MC idea generation. The participants were asked to perform different MC tasks, and their neural responses were recorded using a functional near-infrared spectros

Requirements for Brazilian Outpatient Centers of Excellence in Hidradenitis Suppurativa: Consensus Co-Creative Study.

BACKGROUND: Hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) is a chronic skin condition. Its complexity and impact on patients highlight the need for multidisciplinary care that can address the physical, psychological, and social aspects. Centers of excellence can ideally provide the necessary infrastructure, resources, and expertise to effectively treat HS. However, there are still no consolidated models of centers of excellence in HS, and establishing their foundations is an intricate research challenge. Purposely, design and co-creation as innovation techniques are helpful approaches to this type of research

Elements of creative thought: Investigating the cognitive and neural correlates of association and bi-association processes.

Creative thinking relies on the ability to make remote associations and fruitfully combine unrelated concepts. Hence, original associations and bi-associations (i.e., associations to one and two concepts, respectively) are considered elementary cognitive processes of creative cognition. In this work, we investigated the cognitive and brain mechanisms underlying these association processes with tasks that asked for original associations to either one or two adjective stimuli. Study 1 showed that the generation of more original associations and bi-associations was related to several indicators o

Combining creative writing and narrative analysis to deliver new insights into the impact of pulmonary hypertension.

INTRODUCTION: Pulmonary hypertension is life limiting. Delays in diagnosis are common, and even after treatment has been initiated, pulmonary hypertension has marked effects on many aspects of social and physical function. We believed that a new approach to examining disease impact could be achieved through a combination of narrative research and creative writing. METHODS: Detailed unstructured narrative interviews with people with pulmonary hypertension were analysed thematically. Individual moments were also summarised and studied using creative writing, in which the interviewer created mic

Creative Contributory Contests to Spur Innovation in Sexual Health: 2 Cases and a Guide for Implementation.

Sexual health campaigns are often designed "top-down" by public health experts, failing to engage key populations. Using the power of crowdsourcing to shape a "bottom-up" approach, this note describes 2 creative contributory contests to enhance sexual health campaigns. We provide guidance for designing creative contributory contests to improve HIV and other sexually transmitted disease testing.

Authenticity, creativity and a love of the job: experiences of grassroots leaders of mental health nursing in queensland.

The strength of mental health nursing and its potential contribution to improved consumer outcomes depends upon strong and clearly articulated leadership. However, studies of leadership have tended to focus on nurses holding senior positions rather than exploring the leadership embedded in clinical work. A qualitative exploratory study was undertaken with identified mental health nurse leaders in one Australian state, in order to explore their experiences and what they found to be most meaningful in their work. This article reports the findings from this study. The data was analysed thematical
