BACKGROUND: Achieving safe and stable placements is a key mission for the foster care system. Foster parents and social workers are part of a caregiving network with responsibility for the child and their wellbeing. Emotionally dysregulated children's behaviors may pose a challenge to the caregiving system. Trauma-informed care (TIC) interventions aim at enhancing caregivers' understanding of such behaviors and underlying emotions.
OBJECTIVE: The present study explored the experiences of foster parents and social workers who attended TIC training together, with a special focus on their collab

BACKGROUND: Sleep-wake problems and depressive symptoms are common in people with intellectual disabilities (IDs) and are thought to be related to the unstable sleep-wake rhythm in this population. Previously, we showed that after increasing environmental light exposure, mid-sleep and sleep onset advanced, and mood improved over a period of 14 weeks after installing environmental dynamic light installations in the living room of people with IDs. We invited participants of that short-term study to take part in the current study on sleep-wake rhythm, mood and behaviour in older adults with IDs 1

A patient with chronic paranoid schizophrenia with delusions of infestation and of grandeur type, developed polydipsia in the course of his illness which ended up in acute life-threatening water intoxication. Apart from somatic causes like SIADH, which are discussed in literature, water-intoxication could psychodynamically be interpreted in the sense of acting on delusions.

To ensure quality of services for individuals with mental retardation/developmental disability, professionals must measure consumer outcomes related to lifestyle. In this study variables contributing to quality of life for 60 adults with severe or profound disabilities who resided in ICF/MR community-based homes for 4 to 5 persons were examined. Using the Quality of Life Index, we studied interrelations among personal lifestyle characteristics of adults and community-home program characteristics with quality of life factors. The R2 effect size (.571) involving total scores on the Quality of Li

BACKGROUND: India accounts for one fourth of the TB burden globally. One of the objectives of the National Strategic Plan is to achieve 90% notification rate of all TB cases. Screening of high risk groups is one of the important components towards achieving this objective. Inmates of homes for the aged and orphanages are at higher risk of having TB infection and disease. Hence this study was conducted with the objective of identifying the prevalence of TB among inmates of homes for the aged and orphanages.
METHODS: A cross sectional study was done in homes for the aged and orphanages of Kolla

Quality end-of-life care is a central issue in nursing homes, requiring the assessment of individual and family needs by health professionals. Although previous instruments have been developed, they usually rely on family reports and have been adapted from other clinical contexts (hospital or primary care). It is important to consider how health care professionals working in nursing homes perceive what is necessary to achieve quality end-of-life care. In this study, the objective was to develop an instrument to assess quality of end-of-life care in the context of Spanish care homes. A 24 item

This study aimed to examine whether risk of withdrawal from HTTx was higher in coastal areas that were severely damaged by tsunami than in inland areas. We conducted a cross-sectional study of 9218 participants aged ≥20 years in Miyagi, Japan. The odds ratios (ORs) and confidence interval (CI) for withdrawal from HTTx in coastal and inland groups were compared using multivariate logistic regression analysis, adjusting for potential confounders. In total, 194 of 5860 and 146 of 3358 participants in the inland and coastal groups, respectively, withdrew from HTTx treatment. OR (95%CI) of withdraw

Case-mix differences between 653 home health care patients and 650 nursing home patients, and between 455 Medicare home health patients and 447 Medicare nursing home patients were assessed using random samples selected from 20 home health agencies and 46 nursing homes in 12 states in 1982 and 1983. Home health patients were younger, had shorter lengths of stay, and were less functionally disabled than nursing home patients. Traditional long-term care problems requiring personal care were more common among nursing home patients, whereas problems requiring skilled nursing services were more prev

INTRODUCTION: The prevalence of dementia is increasing, both worldwide and in China. This disease is associated with numerous restrictions for those affected but also for caregivers and society. Due to the limited effectiveness of pharmacological interventions, more research on non-pharmacological interventions is needed. For the non-pharmacological multimodal MAKS (M: motor training, A: activities of daily living training, K: cognitive training, S: social-communicative setting) intervention, positive effects on cognition, activities of daily living, and the occurrence of behavioural and psych

Co-occurring mental health concerns are prevalent among substance use recovery housing residents. We sought to explore how residents with co-occurring mental health and substance use needs experience recovery housing. We conducted semi-structured interviews with residents (N = 92) in recovery homes across Texas and developed themes through thematic analysis. Residents note that living in a group home can exacerbate anxiety and paranoia, especially during periods of high turnover. Overwhelmingly, however, residents believe recovery housing improves their mental health. Residents use their share

The objectives of this study were to identify elder mistreatment (EM) prevalence among a cohort of older adults receiving visiting nurse care in their homes, determine EM subtypes, and identify factors associated with EM. EM data were collected by nurses during monthly home visits for up to 24 months. It took the nurses a mean of 10.5 visits to discern EM. Fifty-four (7.4%) of 724 patients were identified as mistreated, of which 33 had enough information to subtype the EM. Of these 33, 27 were victims of neglect, 16 of psychological abuse, and 10 of financial exploitation, and 17 suffered more

BACKGROUND: Older adults living in nursing homes spend the majority of their time inactive. The associated levels of chronic disease place an increasing burden on healthcare systems. Physical activity (PA) interventions delivered through exercise classes may be resource-intensive and require specialist staff. The aim of this study is to explore the feasibility and acceptability of a PA programme embedded into the daily lives of older adults living in nursing homes and to examine the preliminary effects of this on physical mobility and quality of life.
METHODS: A randomised controlled pilot fe
