Label-Free Hemodynamic Mapping via Ultrafast Power Doppler-Enhanced Photoacoustic Imaging reveals early therapy-induced functional changes in the tumor.

Real-time, non-invasive imaging of tumor vascular function is critical for assessing treatment response and informing therapeutic decisions. In this study, we present a dual-modality imaging approach that integrates Ultrafast power Doppler ultrasound (UPD) with multispectral photoacoustic (PA) imaging to quantify spatiotemporal changes in tumor oxygenation and perfusion following photodynamic therapy (PDT). Our results demonstrate that PDT induces dose- and time-dependent spatial heterogenic alterations in both oxygenation and perfusion. To better interpret the spatial interplay between tumor

Multimodal Perfusion Assessment in Hemodynamically Unstable Patients: A Concise Definitive Review.

OBJECTIVES: Assessment of tissue perfusion remains a central challenge in the management of hemodynamically unstable patients, as normalization of macrocirculatory variables does not necessarily reflect restoration of effective organ perfusion. This concise definitive review examines contemporary approaches to multimodal perfusion assessment and discusses how available monitoring tools may be integrated into a stepwise, physiology-driven framework to guide escalation of monitoring at the bedside. DATA SOURCES: Relevant physiologic and clinical studies addressing peripheral perfusion assessmen

Evaluating the role of endometrial colour Doppler dynamic tissue perfusion measurements in in vitro fertilisation success.

The role of uterine receptivity and endometrial perfusion in in vitro fertilisation (IVF) remains unclear. In our prospective pilot study, we used a new dynamic tissue perfusion measurement method to evaluate this relationship in humans. A standard ovulation induction and embryo transfer method were applied to all the volunteers. On the day of embryo transfer, dynamic images of the uterus were recorded using colour Doppler ultrasound, and these images were uploaded onto PixelFlux Chameleon Software (GmbH, Münster, Germany). After determining the region of interest (ROI), the average velocity,

Comparison of the Outcome of Kidney Transplant After Pulsatile or Continuous Ex Vivo Hypothermic Machine Perfusion of Kidneys Donated After Cardiac Death: Analysis of Kidney Pairs.

BACKGROUND: Hypothermic machine perfusion is used to improve renal perfusion and reduce the rate of early and late graft dysfunction. It has been used in our unit since 2001. It has 2 modes of flow: continuous or pulsatile. The aim of this study is to compare the modes of perfusion in terms of perfusion-related parameters, graft survival, and estimated glomerular filtration rate. METHODS: All donation after cardiac death kidneys between 2002 and 2014 were reviewed. A total of 64 pairs of kidneys were identified of which one kidney underwent pulsatile and the other continuous perfusion. Machin

Perfusion control of a partial revascularized hand via application of Indocyanine green (ICG) and Near-infrared Fluorescence Imaging.

BACKGROUND: Intra- and postoperative assessment of perfusion with near-infrared fluorescence imaging is commonly used among plastic surgeons to evaluate the quality of a microsurgical anastomosis in free flaps. OBJECTIVE: As microsurgical anastomosis can be monitored with near-infrared fluorescence imaging there is potential concerning revascularized fingers and hands with soft tissue depths not exceeding 7 mm above anastomosis. In a case of a severe crush injury of the hand more information about the perfusion was necessary as clinical assessment suspected loss of perfusion. METHODS: A 49-y

Effect of Hypotension and Dobutamine on Gastrointestinal Microcirculations of Healthy, Anesthetized Horses.

Horses undergoing abdominal exploratory surgery are at risk of hypotension and hypoperfusion. Normal mean arterial pressure is used as a surrogate for adequate tissue perfusion. However, measures of systemic circulation may not be reflective of microcirculation. This study measured the mean arterial pressure, cardiac index, lactate, and four microcirculatory indices in six healthy, anesthetized adult horses undergoing elective laparotomies. The microcirculatory parameters were measured at three different sites along the gastrointestinal tract (oral mucosa, colonic serosa, and rectal mucosa) wi

Relationship between reversibility score on corresponding left ventricular segments and fractional flow reserve in coronary artery disease.

OBJECTIVE: The objective of this study was to find the correlation between the severity of perfusion abnormality detected by scintigraphy and the FFR value, as well as the localization of a particular coronary lesion. On the basis of FFR values and the corresponding left ventricular segments, we proposed a combined index to aim for better correlation with myocardial ischemia than the FFR parameter alone. METHODS: Twenty-eight patients (male: 22, female: 6, age 62±7.62) having FFR measurements and myocardial perfusion SPECT studies were enrolled in our retrospective analysis. FFR measurements

[Usefulness of SPECT in the study of Alzheimer's disease].

Single-photon emission photometry (SPECT) images of the brains of 60 patients with Alzheimer's disease (AD) were compared with the brain scans of 16 healthy controls of the same sex and similar ages. SPECT was repeated one year later in 16 of the AD patients. Perfusion indices for frontal, parietal, temporal and occipital regions of patients and controls were compared (Student's tests). Flow alterations were located and symmetry examined. The correlation between perfusion index for each cortical area and MMSE score was assessed (Pearson's r). Perfusion alterations were present in all except on

Hyperspectral imaging as a novel diagnostic tool in microcirculation of wounds.

UNLABELLED: Monitoring of perfusion is a cornerstone in surgery, phlebology and basic science to proof wound healing by interventions. In chronic wound management it is of utmost importance to realize and parametrize wound bed perfusion to verify actual, and plan further treatment by noninvasive diagnostics. Up to now monitoring is based on visual inspection of wounds as conventionally practiced over more than decades. The main problems of visual inspection are the lack of standardization and comparability because of interindividual variations. Therefore technical performance with contact free

The adverse effects of reduced cerebral perfusion on cognition and brain structure in older adults with cardiovascular disease.

BACKGROUND: It is well established that aging and vascular processes interact to disrupt cerebral hemodynamics in older adults. However, the independent effects of cerebral perfusion on neurocognitive function among older adults remain poorly understood. We examined the associations among cerebral perfusion, cognitive function, and brain structure in older adults with varying degrees of vascular disease using perfusion magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) arterial spin labeling (ASL). MATERIALS AND METHODS: 52 older adults underwent neuroimaging and were administered the Mini Mental State Examina

Correlation of early-phase β-amyloid positron-emission-tomography and neuropsychological testing in patients with Alzheimer's disease.

PURPOSE: Clinical staging in individuals with Alzheimer's disease (AD) typically relies on neuropsychological testing. Recognizing the imperative for an objective measure of clinical AD staging, regional perfusion in early-phase β-amyloid-PET may aid as a cost-efficient index for the assessment of neurodegeneration severity in patients with Alzheimer's disease. METHODS: Regional perfusion deficits in early-phase β-amyloid-PET as well as neuropsychological testing (max. 90 days delay) were evaluated in 82 patients with biologically defined AD according to the ATN classification. In reference t

Neurological status and tissue perfusion changes after radial artery harvesting for myocardial revascularization: importance of the Allen test.

OBJECTIVE: Although radial artery (RA) removal for coronary revascularization is considered safe, there is still considerable suspicion concerning adequate hand perfusion. We investigated the blood flow alterations in the donor forearm by quantitative perfusion scintigraphy tests in patients with RA conduits, and compared the results between the patients using different Allen test refill lengths . METHODS: 50 patients undergoing coronary artery bypass graft surgery with RA grafts were investigated. Perfusion studies and a detailed physical examination of the donor hand were performed preopera

Obesity, salt intake, and renal perfusion in healthy humans.

Renal perfusion rises as obesity develops during short-term overfeeding in animal studies. In humans, the assessment is complicated by the need to normalize renal perfusion for body size. We made use of the fact that radioactive xenon washout measures renal perfusion per unit of tissue mass to address this issue by comparing 45 moderately obese and 147 lean healthy potential kidney donors. All were disease free. The rationale for involving kidney donors reflects the fact that the xenon method for measuring renal perfusion demands injection of the xenon directly into the renal artery, which can

Signal density of left ventricular myocardial segments and impact of beam hardening artifact: implications for myocardial perfusion assessment by multidetector CT coronary angiography.

UNLABELLED: We sought to explore the normal myocardial signal density (SD) levels during multidetector computed tomography coronary angiography (MDCT-CA) acquisitions and evaluated the impact of beam hardening artifacts. BACKGROUND: Since myocardial perfusion by MDCT is based on the myocardial signal density (SD), it is pivotal to determine the normal values of myocardial SD and to identify potential mechanisms of misinterpretation of perfusion defects. In routine MDCT acquisitions, we commonly visualize a considerable SD drop at the posterobasal wall resembling perfusion defects, being attri

Myocardial oxygenation in coronary artery disease: insights from blood oxygen level-dependent magnetic resonance imaging at 3 tesla.

OBJECTIVES: The purpose of this study was to assess the diagnostic accuracy of blood oxygen-level dependent (BOLD) MRI in suspected coronary artery disease (CAD). BACKGROUND: By exploiting the paramagnetic properties of deoxyhemoglobin, BOLD magnetic resonance imaging can detect myocardial ischemia. We applied BOLD imaging and first-pass perfusion techniques to: 1) examine the pathophysiological relationship between coronary stenosis, perfusion, ventricular scar, and myocardial oxygenation; and 2) evaluate the diagnostic performance of BOLD imaging in the clinical setting. METHODS: BOLD and
