PURPOSE: To evaluate the effect of suture fixation of a posterior chamber intraocular lens (PC IOL) on the corneal endothelium.
SETTING: Seoul National University Hospital, Seoul, Korea.
METHODS: Central corneal endothelial cell density was measured in 40 eyes that had planned extracapsular cataract extraction (P-ECCE) with PC IOL implantation and in 40 eyes that had PC IOL implantation by suture fixation (17 eyes with cataracts and 23 aphakic eyes). Central corneal endothelial cell counts were taken 1 day preoperatively and 1 and 3 months postoperatively by contact specular microscopy.

At present it is known 2 forms of hantavirus infections in humans: hemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome (HFRS) induced by viruses Hantaan, Seoul, Puumala and Dobrava/Belgrade; and hantaviral pulmonary syndrome, induced by Sin Nombre et al. This study provides an overview of the current status of clonorchiasis and cholangiocarcinoma (CCA), and their relationship in Korea during 2012-2020. Data were obtained from the Health Insurance Review & Assessment Service of Korea. Cluster, trend, and correlation analyses were performed. The purpose of this study was to conduct a survey of Dirofilaria immitis infection among stray cats in Korea using nested PCR. We included 235 stray cats (121 females and 114 males) and evaluated each for the presence of feline heartworm infection. A 32-year old housewife, living in Seoul, recognized incidentally a painless mass at the left chest wall. During later 3 months, she experienced spontaneous swelling and regression of the mass repeatedly for 4 times. Surgical resection showed a granuloma at anterior serratus muscle containing a nearly matured adult of Fasciola species without vitellaria and uterus. This is the 11th human fascioliasis and the first extra-abdominal infection reported in Korea.
