The fellow eyes of 226 giant retinal breaks were followed in order to determine the incidence and natural course of chorioretinal and vitreous pathology. PURPOSE: To evaluate surgical outcomes, complications and learning curve of glued intraocular lens surgery by a vitreoretinal (VR) fellow in training.
METHODS: Analysis of 50 eyes requiring glued intraocular lens (GIOL) surgery for various indications was done. Both the consultant VR surgeon (Group 1) and VR fellow in training (Group 2) operated 25 eyes each. The primary outcome measures were visual acuity at 3 months, and time taken for completion of surgery. Secondary outcome measures were refractive correction, intraocular pressure and intraoperative or postoperative complications.

PURPOSE: To report the long-term outcome of early secondary intraocular lens (IOL) implantation following congenital cataract extraction in a large number of eyes.
METHODS: Data of aphakic children under 30 months of age who underwent secondary IOL implantation and had at least one year of follow-up after the surgery was reviewed. To evaluate the predisposing factors, indications and coincident procedures in patients requiring a secondary intraocular lens (IOL)-related intervention. PURPOSE: Visual deprivation disrupting binocular development, such as that occurring with congenital cataract, is reported to cause asymmetric monocular optokinetic nystagmus (MOKN), as well as poor sensory and motorfusional outcome. We wanted to determine if symmetric MOKN could develop in cases of congenital cataract with good fusional outcome.
METHODS: We tested MOKN (with video and electro-oculographic recordings) and stereoacuity on 5 patients with good visual acuity and satisfactory ocular alignment after surgery for congenital cataract.

The immune system of the eye is closely connected with the immune system of homeostasis regulation of the body. The present research was aimed at the detection of the correlations between blood serum levels of autoantibodies to native and denatured DNA and the clinical course of the postoperative period after IOL implantation to cataract patients. Increased titers of both antibody types were found prognostically valuable. If only one parameter is increased (antibody titer to one DNA), the prognostic value of the test is reduced by 30%.

BACKGROUND: Use of sutures with aphakic epikeratoplasty is time-consuming during surgery and can create significant hazards for the patient. Thus, a surgical technique for aphakic epikeratoplasty without sutures was developed.
METHODS: The conventional procedure was modified to use an oversized lenticule tucked evenly in an expanded lamellar pocket with no anchoring sutures. The technique was performed on one eye of 27 consecutive patients over a 9-month period.
