Relationships between job organisational factors, biomechanical and psychosocial exposures.

UNLABELLED: The relationships between work organisational, biomechanical and psychosocial factors were studied using cross-sectional data from a pooled dataset of 1834 participants. The work organisational factors included: job rotation, overtime work, having second jobs and work pace. Task and job level biomechanical variables were obtained through sub-task data collected in the field or analysed in the laboratory. Psychosocial variables were collected based on responses to 10 questions. The results showed that job rotations had significant effects on all biomechanical and most psychosocial m

"A different sense of what we do here, who we are and what we deliver": Provider perspectives on the effects of a change in governance of healthcare services in correctional facilities in British Columbia.

In 2017, British Columbia (BC) transferred responsibility for healthcare services in provincial correctional facilities from the Ministry of Public Safety and Solicitor General to the Ministry of Health. This study explored how healthcare leadership perceived the impact of the transfer on services, work-life, and job satisfaction. We conducted one-on-one interviews (n = 8) with healthcare managers and medical and administrative leadership within Correctional Health Services. Using the Two-Factor theory of job satisfaction as a framework, we applied Interpretive Description methodology to analy

Occupational factors and low back pain: a Mendelian randomization study.

BACKGROUND: Low back pain (LBP) is a common condition and a leading cause of health function loss worldwide. This study assessed the impact of occupational factors on LBP using Mendelian Randomization (MR) method, controlling for confounding variables. METHODS: Based on publicly available genome-wide association studies (GWAS), two-sample univariate and multivariate MR analyses were performed to assess the causal effect of occupational factors on LBP. We used the inverse variance weighted (IVW) method and sensitivity analyses to generate the total results for the univariate MR analysis. Furth

Hostility, job attitudes, and workplace deviance: test of a multilevel model.

The authors tested a model, inspired by affective events theory (H. M. Weiss & R. Cropanzano, 1996), that examines the dynamic nature of emotions at work, work attitudes, and workplace deviance. Sixty-four employees completed daily surveys over 3 weeks, reporting their mood, job satisfaction, perceived interpersonal treatment, and deviance. Supervisors and significant others also evaluated employees' workplace deviance and trait hostility, respectively. Over half of the total variance in workplace deviance was within-individual, and this intraindividual variance was predicted by momentary host

Community-Oriented Workers in Local and State Public Health.

CONTEXT: Local and state public health agencies increasingly rely on community-oriented workers to strengthen connections with the populations they serve. This workforce, which includes community health workers, health educators, peer counselors, and health navigators, plays a crucial role in health promotion, disease prevention, and care coordination, especially among underserved populations. Despite their importance, limited national data exist on their size, distribution, and job quality within governmental public health. OBJECTIVE: To describe the size, distribution, and job quality of co

Unravelling antecedents and bidirectional impacts of nurse work rumination: a scoping review to enhance nurses' well-being and improve nursing quality.

BACKGROUND: Globally, work rumination is a common phenomenon related to nurse burnout. However, most existing studies focus on the single negative impacts of rumination, with less exploration of its dual effects and antecedents. Therefore, comprehensively exploring the effect of nurse work rumination and its influencing factors is crucial for enhancing the accuracy of nursing management. OBJECTIVES: Identify the antecedents and dual effects of nurse work rumination to deepen understanding of this phenomenon and provide references for formulating interventions that enhance nurses' well-being a

Professional Fulfillment as a Strategic Imperative for Brain Health in Neurology.

The American Academy of Neurology has prioritized brain health through prevention, early detection, and longitudinal care. However, these goals depend on a stable and engaged neurology workforce. This article examines professional fulfillment as a structural determinant of workforce stability, continuity of care, and system performance. Emerging evidence demonstrates that burnout and professional fulfillment are related but distinct constructs. While burnout reflects occupational distress, fulfillment is associated with meaningful work, recognition, supportive leadership, and alignment between

The impact of leadership on employee well-being: on-site compared to working from home.

BACKGROUND: The Covid-19 pandemic has brought significant changes to the way people work and there are several reasons to believe that working from home will become more common in the future. Yet more knowledge is needed on whether the effectiveness of leadership differs if the work is performed remotely compared to on-site work. PURPOSE: The aim of this study is to examine the place of work as a moderator for the effectiveness of leadership on employee well-being. METHOD: A survey was answered by 364 white-collar workers, employed by a larger Swedish municipality, who because of the covid-1

How are social stressors at work related to well-being and health? A systematic review and meta-analysis.

BACKGROUND: Social relationships are crucial for well-being and health, and considerable research has established social stressors as a risk for well-being and health. However, researchers have used many different constructs, and it is unclear if these are actually different or reflect a single overarching construct. Distinct patterns of associations with health/well-being would indicate separate constructs, similar patterns would indicate a common core construct, and remaining differences could be attributed to situational characteristics such as frequency or intensity. The current meta-analy

Age-based stereotype threat and work outcomes: Stress appraisals and rumination as mediators.

Both older and younger employees experience age-based stereotype threat in the workplace, but only older employees appear to be vulnerable to disengagement as a consequence. The present study examines 2 mechanisms that might explain this age difference: (a) stress appraisals of challenge and hindrance and (b) rumination. Using a weekly diary study design over 5 weeks, 280 employees across the life span (aged between 18 and 66 years), completed 1,288 weekly surveys. Work outcomes examined were job satisfaction, job engagement, affective organizational commitment, workplace well-being, and inten

Development of a Nursing Workplace Violence Experience Scale.

OBJECTIVE: To develop and assess the psychometric properties of a nursing workplace violence experience (WPV-E) scale on burnout, engagement, intent to leave, job satisfaction, and work pressure. BACKGROUND: Workplace violence (WPV) is a significant and increasing threat to nurses. These incidents have a substantial negative impact on nurses' well-being and patient care. There is a need for a concise and reliable instrument to more comprehensively assess WPV-E in nurses. METHODS: Researchers used a 4-phase approach, including item generation, interrater reliability testing, data reduction, a
