OBJECTIVE: Fluoride mouthwashes are essential tools for caries prevention; however, their efficacy and safety depend on accurate fluoride concentrations and non-erosive pH levels. Deviations from labeled specifications can compromise therapeutic outcomes or pose risks to dental enamel. This study aimed to characterise the market-driven fortification of vitamins and minerals in packaged foods targeted at children in Brazil. We analysed 535 food labels using data collected in a census-type method (n = 5620) of food labels in a Brazilian supermarket in 2013. METHODS: The scoping review followed the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses Extension for Scoping Reviews. The information was collected from indexed articles in MEDLINE/PubMed, LILACS, SCIELO, BVS, Cochrane Library, and Google Scholar, published from 2013 to 2023.
