BACKGROUND: Acute spinal cord injury (ASCI) can lead to paraplegia or quadriplegia, the treatment of which has been a major problem. New therapeutic approaches in developing carbon nanotubes (CNT) functionalized with the Nafion nanocomposite, a sulfonated tetrafluoroethylene copolymer, have been shown to increase the length of selected neurites in vitro.

Chronic neuropathic pain following surgery represents a serious worldwide health problem leading to life-long treatment and the possibility of significant disability. In this study, neuropathic pain was modeled using the chronic constriction injury (CCI). The CCI rats exhibit mechanical hypersensitivity (typical neuropathic pain symptom) to mechanical stimulation of the affected paw 11 days post surgery, at a time when sham surgery animals do not exhibit hypersensitivity. Following a similar time course, TRPV1 gene expression appears to rise with the hypersensitivity to mechanical stimulation.

BACKGROUND: Contrast is increasingly being used during dobutamine stress echocardiography. However, there are few data regarding the safety of this combination.

OBJECTIVE: To report an unusual case of intravitreal inflammation in a human eye caused by the presence of residual perfluorodecalin in a case of giant retinal tear and retinal detachment.
METHODS: The posterior capsule of the lens, which was infiltrated with deposits, was collected during surgery. The specimen was stained with hematoxylin and eosin, with periodic acid-Schiff, and for melanin. Part of it was examined with electron microscopy.
