CT Angiography in Patients Referred for Invasive Coronary Angiography: A Single Large-Volume Tertiary Center Experience.

Background/Objectives: Coronary artery disease (CAD) is a major cause of mortality worldwide, accounting for 7.3% of all deaths in Germany. Invasive coronary angiography (ICA) remains the gold standard for diagnosing CAD, yet coronary computed tomography angiography (CTCA) is gaining recognition as a non-invasive alternative. Recent clinical trials have confirmed CTCA's diagnostic accuracy, leading to its inclusion in the 2019 European Society of Cardiology (ESC) guidelines. Despite this, its adoption in Germany has been slow. Methods: This single-center, non-randomized study at the Heart and

[Development of Digital Subtraction Angiography Method for Pediatric Cardiac Angiography Using Subtraction Technique with Heart Rate].

Digital subtraction angiography (DSA) has been used in head and abdomen. However, in recent years, the use of cardiac DSA has been reported. In this report, we discuss the development of a DSA method with heart rate to clearly visualize blood vessels of pediatric patients. The patients included five children who underwent pulmonary artery angioplasty. We used a process to resize the original images and performed two kinds of subtraction methods as well as visually evaluated the images and performed comparisons between pairs of images using the Scheffe's method. Subtraction techniques were used

Persistent trigeminal artery variant detected by conventional angiography and magnetic resonance angiography-incidence and clinical significance-.

OBJECTIVE: Persistent trigeminal artery variant (PTAV) is an anastomosis between the internal carotid artery (ICA) and the cerebellar artery without any interposing basilar artery segment. We discuss its probable embryological origin and emphasize clinical implications. METHODS: Retrospectively 1250 conventional cerebral angiograms and 2947 cranial magnetic resonance angiographies (MRAs) were evaluated for the patients with PTAV. RESULTS: Five patients (four men and one woman, 23 to 76 years of age, median age 65 years) had a PTAV. Three patients who underwent MRA had a PTAV (3/2947=0.1%). F

Internal carotid artery stenosis: comparison of duplex scan and magnetic resonance angiography with digital subtraction angiography.

OBJECTIVE: We compare duplex scan (DS) and magnetic resonance angiography (MRA) with digital angiography (DGA) in respect to accuracy in measuring internal carotid artery (IC) stenosis in symptomatic patients. METHOD: Ten symptomatic patients with IC stenosis greater than 70% previously diagnosed by DS were submitted to another DS and to both MRA and DGA. Both ICs from each patient (total 20 ICs) were evaluated by physicians blinded for the results of other tests. DS and MRA were compared with DGA, using the intraclass correlation coefficient (r) and its 95% confidence interval (95% ci). For

Computerized tomography angiography in patients with subarachnoid hemorrhage: from aneurysm detection to treatment without conventional angiography.

OBJECT: The purpose of this study was to determine prospectively whether and to what extent computerized tomography (CT) angiography can serve as the sole imaging method for a preoperative workup in patients with ruptured intracranial aneurysms. METHODS: During a 1-year period, all patients who presented to the authors' hospital with subarachnoid hemorrhage demonstrated by unenhanced CT scanning or lumbar puncture underwent CT angiography. Two radiologists evaluated the CT angiography source images and maximum intensity projection slabs and arrived at a consensus. They categorized the quality

Imaging modalities for renal artery stenosis in suspected renovascular hypertension: prospective intraindividual comparison of color Doppler US, CT angiography, GD-enhanced MR angiography, and digital substraction angiography.

The aim of the study was to evaluate the diagnostic accuracy of Color Doppler US, CT Angiography (CTA), and GD-enhanced MR Angiography (MRA) compared with digital subtraction angiography (DSA) for the detection of renal artery stenosis in patients with clinically suspected renovascular hypertension. Fifty-eight patients with suspected renovascular hypertension were enrolled in the study. All patients underwent Color Doppler US, CTA and GD-enhanced MRA. DSA was the gold standard method for the number of renal arteries, existence and degree of stenosis, or evidence of fibromuscular dysplasia. DS

Carotid web catheter angiography hemodynamic parameters.

BACKGROUND: Carotid web (CaW)-related contrast stagnation on digital subtraction angiography (DSA) may be a marker supporting the pathophysiological theory of stasis and thrombosis/embolization. We aim to assess the correlation between DSA hemodynamic parameters with CT angiography (CTA) structural measurements and clinical characteristics. METHODS: Cross-sectional analysis of consecutive patients with CaW who underwent CTA+DSA. DSA-derived hemodynamic parameters were calculated based on a region of interest at the carotid bulb (time-density curves; TDC). The correlation between duration of c

Contemporary Functional Coronary Angiography: An Update.

Functional coronary angiography (FCA) is a novel modality for assessing the physiology of coronary lesions, going beyond anatomical visualization by traditional coronary angiography. FCA incorporates indices like fractional flow reserve (FFR) and instantaneous wave-free ratio (IFR), which utilize pressure measurements across coronary stenoses to evaluate hemodynamic impacts and to guide revascularization strategies. In this review, we present traditional and evolving modalities and uses of FCA. We will also evaluate the existing evidence and discuss the applicability of FCA in various clinical

Optical coherence tomography angiography in glaucoma.

The use of optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA) holds significant promise for optometrists in the diagnosis and management of glaucoma. It offers reliable differentiation of glaucomatous eyes from healthy ones and extends monitoring capabilities for advanced cases. OCTA represents a valuable addition to traditional assessment methods, particularly in complex cases. Glaucoma, a major cause of irreversible blindness, is traditionally diagnosed using structural and functional metrics. With growing interest, OCTA is being explored to diagnose, monitor, and manage glaucoma. This review f

MR Angiography of Extracranial Carotid Disease.

Magnetic resonance angiography sequences, such as time-of-flight and contrast-enhanced angiography, provide clear depiction of vessel lumen, traditionally used to evaluate carotid pathologic conditions such as stenosis, dissection, and occlusion; however, atherosclerotic plaques with a similar degree of stenosis may vary tremendously from a histopathological standpoint. MR vessel wall imaging is a promising noninvasive method to evaluate the content of the vessel wall at high spatial resolution. This is particularly interesting in the case of atherosclerosis as vessel wall imaging can identify

Coronary angiography causes Rumpel-Leede symptoms.

BACKGROUND: Rumpel Leede sign (RLS) is a clinical presentation observed at the extremities due to pressure applied externally. The appearance ranges from scattered pin-point rashes to an entire arm covered with petechial hemorrhage depending upon the severity. This phenomenon is relatively uncommon in clinical practice. CASE PRESENTATION: A 64 year old female patient developed a rash in the normal skin area below the compression area on the second day of single catheter coronary angiography. The patient's rash resolved without treatment after 3 days. CONCLUSIONS: We report a case of hyperten

Optical Coherence Tomography Angiography in Chiasmitis.

A 29-year-old girl presented complaining of acute bilateral visual loss associated with mild headache and retrobulbar pain. She was diagnosed with chiasmal optic neuritis caused by multiple sclerosis. Her visual acuity and visual field defect promptly improved after steroid therapy. However optical coherence tomography angiography showed a progressive reduction of superficial capillary plexus density of the retina and optic nerve consistent with the progressive impairment of the retinal ganglionar cell layer. Contrary to chiasmal compression, in chiasmal optic neuritis, the superficial capilla

Optical coherence tomography angiography in glaucoma.

Assessment of the vasculature within the optic nerve, peripapillary superficial retina, macula, and peripapillary choroid can be determined in glaucoma using optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA). Decreased perfusion within the pre-laminar layer of the optic nerve has been correlated with glaucoma severity. The peripapillary superficial retinal vessel density allows diagnosis and detection of glaucoma progression in a manner similar to the peripapillary retinal nerve fiber layer (RNFL) thickness. Furthermore, decreased peripapillary vessel density of the intact hemiretina or unaffect

Optical Coherence Tomography Angiography in Glaucoma.

Optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA) is a relatively new, noninvasive, dye-free imaging modality that provides a qualitative and quantitative assessment of the vasculature in the retina and optic nerve head. OCTA also enables visualization of the choriocapillaris, but only in areas of parapapillary atrophy. With OCTA, the movement of red blood cells is used as a contrast to delineate blood vessels from static tissues. The features seen with OCTA in eyes with glaucoma are reduction in the superficial vessel density in the peripapillary and macular areas, and complete loss of chorioca

Transient Lingual Ischemia Complicating Coronary Angiography.

Arterial embolism is a potential complication of coronary angiography and could theoretically affect the lingual circulation. However, the transient nature of clinical signs and symptoms suggests vasospasm as the most likely underlying mechanism of lingual ischemia in our case.
